Jaguar Land Rover recalls 121,500 SUVs in US over suspension defect
Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is recalling more than 121,500 vehicles in the United States to address a defect in the front suspension knuckles, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Wednesday, according to a report by Reuters. JLR defect raises crash risk, says NHTSA The recall affects Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. According to NHTSA, the aluminium front suspension knuckles, which link the front wheels to critical components such as the brake assembly, could crack, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. In June, NHTSA launched a preliminary evaluation into 91,856 JLR vehicles over fractured front steering knuckles. The investigation focused on 2014–2017 Range Rover Sport models produced by Jaguar Land Rover North America and aimed to assess the scope, severity and cause of the defect. US tariff, JLR revenue drop JLR, based in the UK, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of India's Tata Motors. The recall comes at a time when the automaker is grappling with a slowdown in demand and the impact of US tariffs. On Friday, Tata Motors reported a consolidated net profit of ₹4,003 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025 (Q1 FY26). This was down 62.2 per cent from ₹10,587 crore in the same quarter a year earlier. Compared with the earlier quarter, profit fell 53.2 per cent to ₹8,556 crore. The company cited lower volumes across segments and a decline in JLR's profits, which were affected by US tariffs. JLR's revenue for the quarter declined 9.2 per cent year-on-year to £6.6 billion (about ₹67,320 crore), reflecting reduced wholesale volumes due to tariffs and the planned wind-down of legacy Jaguar models, the company said. PB Balaji appointed next CEO of JLR The automaker is also undergoing a leadership change. The company earlier this month announced the appointment of PB Balaji as chief executive officer (CEO), effective November 17, 2025. Balaji, currently group chief financial officer (CFO) of Tata Motors, will succeed Adrian Mardell, who will retire on December 31, 2025, after a 35-year career at the company, including three years as CEO. N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Motors and Tata Sons, thanked Adrian for the stellar turnaround of JLR and for delivering record results, and welcomed Balaji, saying, 'I am delighted to appoint Balaji as the incoming CEO. He has been associated with the company for many years and is well aligned with JLR's strategy. This move will ensure that we continue to accelerate our journey to 'Reimagine JLR'.'

Tata Motors shares crash 45% from peak. Do analysts see further downside?
Tata Motors has seen a sharp reversal in fortunes on the bourses, with its share price plunging 44.6% from a record high of Rs 1,179 to the current Rs 653. The slide comes amid a challenging operating environment, weaker-than-expected quarterly results, and sustained selling pressure across both domestic and global businesses. The earnings miss, marked by a steep drop in EBITDA and pre-exceptional PBT, has further eroded market confidence. Global operations, particularly Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), are grappling with higher costs, tariffs, and slowing demand in key markets, while the India PV business is facing margin pressures and declining market share. Here's how leading analysts view the stock: Jefferies Global brokerage firm Jefferies flagged a 'big miss' in Tata Motors' Q1 results, citing multiple headwinds across business segments. It noted that Q1 EBITDA and pre-exceptional PBT fell 37–41% year-on-year, coming in 13–22% below its estimates. Live Events Key concerns include: - Jaguar Land Rover (JLR): Facing increased competition and consumption tax in China, higher warranty costs, and the costs of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) transition. - India PV (Passenger Vehicles): Market share is slipping and margins remain under pressure. - CV (Commercial Vehicles): Demand remains weak. - Financial performance: Q1 EBITDA margin contracted by 6.5 percentage points to 9.3%, with JLR wholesales down 11% YoY and India PV volumes down 10% YoY. Jefferies cut its FY26–28 earnings per share (EPS) estimates by 8–15% and reiterated its Underperform rating with a target price of Rs 550, also expressing caution over the Iveco acquisition. Jigar S Patel, Senior Manager – Technical Research Analyst, Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers Patel notes that Tata Motors is currently trading below its 50-, 100-, and 200-day exponential moving averages (DEMAs), reflecting a weak technical structure and prevailing bearish sentiment. However, the past two sessions have seen buying volumes emerging from lower levels, indicating potential accumulation. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is also displaying an impulsive upward pattern, suggesting strengthening momentum. Patel adds that this combination raises the possibility of a short-term bounce, but for a sustained recovery, the stock must reclaim and hold above these moving averages. He advises traders to wait for confirmation signals before taking aggressive long positions. Ajit Mishra, SVP – Research, Religare Broking Mishra observes that Tata Motors is trading close to a crucial support zone of Rs 640-Rs 650, which aligns with its 200 EMA on the weekly chart. The stock had earlier staged a sharp rally post a breakout from a fresh base but lost steam near the Rs 850–Rs 900 range, forming a distribution pattern. Following the breakdown from the 'shorting pivot,' the medium-term bias turned bearish, with prices slipping below both the 20 EMA and 50 EMA, indicating sustained selling pressure. Momentum oscillators have cooled from overbought levels, while subdued volumes point to weak buying interest. Mishra warns that a decisive close below Rs 640 could open the door for further downside toward the Rs 600-Rs 550 range. On the upside, Rs 700-Rs 720 is seen as a stiff hurdle; only a breakout above this level, backed by volumes, could revive bullish sentiment. Until then, he maintains a 'sell-on-rise' approach for the short term. ( Disclaimer : Recommendations, suggestions, views and opinions given by the experts are their own. Jaguar CEO PB Balaji Backs ‘Copy Nothing' rebrand amid mixed reception
Jaguar is betting big on reinvention — and PB Balaji is all in. The incoming Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Indian /chief">chief, who takes over in November after serving as Tata Motors' CFO, is doubling down on the brand's controversial 'Copy Nothing" campaign despite criticism from industry voices and political figures alike. Unveiled in December 2024 with the launch of the concept car Type 00, the "Copy Nothing" makes a clean departure from Jaguar's heritage design direction and positioning. Bold campaign, divided opinions Unveiled in December 2024 with the launch of the concept car Type 00, the "Copy Nothing" makes a clean departure from Jaguar's heritage design direction and positioning. While fans celebrate it as a bold move toward exclusivity, critics argue that it risks forsaking the brand's loyalists. Also Read : PB Balaji to become first Indian to take wheel as Jaguar Land Rover CEO One of its harshest critics, former U.S. President Donald Trump, labelled Jaguar's new direction a 'total disaster." Balaji is unfazed. 'We have put our plans together, the cars are being revealed, they're getting exciting response from the customers on the ground. That's what the strategy is," he told reporters, urging comparisons with competitors rather than political rhetoric. A radical upmarket pivot Under the rebrand, Jaguar will transition entirely to electric vehicles and aim squarely at the ultra-luxury market. Managing Director Rawdon Glover had admitted the move could cost the brand up to 85 per cent of its existing customers, retaining only a small core as it targets Bentley-level clientele. Combustion engines are out, and price tags will start above $100,000 worldwide. In this segment, Glover argues, buyers care more about design and craftsmanship than what powers the wheels, stating that powertrain is about 13th on the list." Also Read : Jaguar Land Rover announces UK job cuts as global sales and tariffs bite The EV lineup ahead The first model under the new strategy — a sleek electric grand tourer — is due later this year. Two more EVs are expected to follow: a coupe and a large SUV to rival Bentley's first electric model, each launching roughly a year apart. All will sit on a dedicated EV platform, with no entry-level models in sight. For Balaji, the goal is clear: fewer cars, higher margins, and a sharper brand identity. The approach means Jaguar's 2018 sales peak of nearly 181,000 units is unlikely to be repeated — but in this new era, prestige outweighs volume. This positions 'Copy Nothing" as more than a marketing line — it's the litmus test for whether Jaguar can reinvent itself as an electric brand for the ultra-wealthy without losing its soul.
