NCB, EAGLE Visakhapatnam organises Cyclothon to commemorate 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Pakhwada'
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 22 (ANI): The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), along with EAGLE Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with Decathlon, successfully organised a Cyclothon today as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Pakhwada' campaign.
The event was held in alignment with the United Nations' resolution to observe 26th June as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The Cyclothon was flagged off by Pankaj Kumar Dwivedi, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the event was coordinated by Rajan Kumar, Superintendent, NCB Visakhapatnam, S Ramesh, Inspector EAGLE and Mrs. Kalyani, Inspector EAGLE.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders, including EAGLE Anti-Narcotics
Task Force, Visakhapatnam, and State Bank of India (SBI), Siripuram Branch.
Over 100 cyclists from diverse backgrounds took part in the event, raising awareness and spreading the powerful message: Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs.' The participants pedalled through designated city routes, symbolising unity and a collective stand against the menace of drug abuse.
The event reinforced NCB's and ANTF's commitment to community engagement and drug prevention through public awareness initiatives and collaborative efforts. (ANI)

After hearing the counsels' arguments, the court agreed to issue a notice to the respondent State of Punjab, while denying the army officer's appeal. SC says serving in Operation Sindoor no guarantee of immunity The top court, while passing the judgment in the case, said that participation in 'Operation Sindoor' does not give the officer immunity to commit atrocities at home. The court's observation came after the defence counsel highlighted the convict's role as a black cat commando in the Indian Army, who had served during 'Operation Sindoor'. The accused had been previously convicted by a Punjab court for committing dowry death under section 304B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), following which he appealed against the decision in the Punjab and Haryana HC. The HC suspended his sentence, until his appeal stood pending, after he had served three years in prison. However, the HC last month rejected his appeal, upholding his conviction and handing him ten years of imprisonment.

New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to grant the relief of 'exemption from surrender' to an Indian Army Officer convicted in a dowry death case, despite his counsel highlighting the officer's service in 'Operation Sindoor', a recent military operation against Pakistan. A Bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and K Vinod Chandran directed the officer to surrender within two weeks, rejecting the plea for protection from arrest. The counsel appearing for the officer submitted that his client is a black cat commando in the Indian army who participated in Operation Sindoor. However, the Court rejected his argument and stated that having served in Operation Sindoor doesn't give the accused officer any immunity from committing atrocities at home. Notably, the bench remarked that the fact that he's served in the army only shows how fit and capable the officer is of having strangulated his wife to death. The Court also observed that an exemption from surrender is granted in cases involving less serious offences than those presently alleged against the accused officer. After hearing submissions, the Court agreed to issue notice to the respondent State of Punjab on the officers' plea but refused to grant him any protection from surrender. The accused officer had moved a plea challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court's decision in having refused to grant him relief from surrender. The accused officer had earlier been convicted by a Punjab court for having committed dowry death under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He then moved an appeal against conviction in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court granted him relief by suspending his sentence (until his appeal stood pending) after he had served over three years of imprisonment. However, the High Court dismissed his appeal last month and upheld the conviction, sentencing him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. (ANI)

Dublin [Ireland], June 24 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarun Chugh on Tuesday slammed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) following the death of a minor girl in an explosion during the party's victory celebration in the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll, alleging that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'misgovernance,' Bengal has become a godown of 'barood.' While speaking to ANI, BJP leader Chugh said, 'Under Mamata Banerjee's misgovernance, Bengal has become a godown of 'barood'. Now, innocent children are becoming victims of bombs.' 'In Hindu minority areas, BJP workers and voters are being targeted by TMC. Mamata Banerjee govt is a working in a Jihadi mentality. she has emerged a s a new Jinnah,' he added. Meanwhile, the Krishanagar police arrested four people in connection with the explosion. According to the police, the accused persons are identified as Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk and Anwar Sk. 'In an incident of explosion at Molandi, Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station area, which led to the death of a minor girl, 4 prime accused persons were arrested yesterday- Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk and Anwar Sk. Kaliganj PS Case No. 534/25 dt 23.06.25 u/s 191(2)/191(3)/190/118(2)/109/305/103 BNS & 3/4 ES Act is registered. Investigation and legal proceedings are underway,' said the police in a post on X. Earlier on Monday, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar lashed out at the Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led West Bengal government, saying that there is 'no democracy left here' after the death of the minor. TMC workers were celebrating the party's victory in the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll, in which the party's candidate Alifa Ahmed won, when a bomb exploded, severely injuring the minor. She later succumbed to her injuries. Speaking with ANI, Majumdar accused TMC workers of 'hurling bombs' at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers during their victory celebrations. Additionally, West Bengal Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari condemned the incident, alleging that a TMC supporter 'dropped a bomb' at a CPI(M)-supported house to make the 'Muslim booth free of opposition.' Congress also launched protests condemning the death of the 13-year-old. State Congress President Subhankar Sarkar called the incident a 'blot on the history of West Bengal elections.' 'What we saw today was a blot on the history of West Bengal assembly elections. By-elections were held throughout the country, but we saw no bloodshed anywhere else,' Sarkar said during the protest. National Women Commission (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and asked police to submit a report within two days, according to NCW member Archana Majumdar. (ANI)
