British woman facing 20 years in prison in Indonesia for ‘smuggling cocaine in Angel Delight' insists she was framed

A British woman facing a lengthy jail sentence for allegedly smuggling cocaine into Bali inside Angel Delight sachets has claimed she was set up by a friend. Lisa Ellen Stocker, 39, told a court she was framed after customs officials found suspicious items disguised as food packages in her luggage when she arrived in Bali on 1 February. Officials also discovered similar sachets in luggage belonging to her partner Jonathan Collyer. Last week, prosecutor I Made Dipa Umbara said that lab testing had confirmed that seven sachets of Angel Delight powdered dessert mix discovered in Ms Stocker's luggage and ten sachets found in Mr Collyer's contained a combined 993 grams of cocaine, worth an estimated £272,212. Appearing in court this week, Ms Stocker denied any knowledge of the drugs. "The packages were not mine, but someone else's. I was framed,' she said in court on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail. The group successfully smuggled cocaine into Bali on two previous occasions before being caught on their third attempt, said Ponco Indriyo, the Deputy Director of the Bali Police Narcotics Unit, during a news conference in Denpasar on 7 February. Speaking in court, Ms Stocker said she had been given the packets of Angel Delight by a man she claimed was a friend in the UK. She alleged the man had asked her to take the packets to Bali. 'Jon and I had been to Bali twice carrying packages from [him]. I was shocked after finding out it was cocaine,' she said, the Daily Mail reported. Mr Collyer said that he had paid for the Bali trip himself, and had not received any payment. '[He] gave me some goods he handed over to his friend in Bali,' he said. '[He] told me the package contained snacks, such as chocolate, pudding and chips.' Mr Collyer said he was told someone would pick the package up in Bali. But the Indonesian prosecutor alleges Mr Collyer was given £2,130 to cover flights and accommodation for the couple. A third Briton, Phineas Ambrose Float, was arrested in a sting operation in which the other two suspects allegedly handed the drug to him in the parking area of a hotel in Denpasar. He is being tried separately. The drugs were brought from England to Indonesia with a transit in the Doha international airport in Qatar, Mr Umbara said. Indonesia has strict laws around drug smuggling, and convictions for smuggling large quantities of drugs have in the past carried the death penalty. Death row prisoners in Indonesia are sometimes executed by firing squad, but there have been no capital punishments in Indonesia since 2017. A lawyer representing the three Britons told the BBC in February that they would each face between 15-20 years in an Indonesian prison if convicted. About 530 people, including 96 foreigners, are on death row in Indonesia, mostly for drug-related crimes, the latest figures from the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections show. Indonesia's last executions, of an Indonesian and three foreigners, were carried out in July 2016. In 2015, two members of the so-called 'Bali nine' group of convicted drug smugglers from Australia were executed by firing squad, after the group were arrested in 2005 attempting to smuggle heroin out of Indonesia. Earlier this year British man Thomas Parker was sentenced to 10 months in prison in Bali for drug offences, after being arrested for collecting a package that contained 1kg of MDMA.

Why Hong Kong used a national security law to ban this mobile game

Hong Kong has banned the mobile game Reversed Front: Bonfire under the national security law, alleging it promotes secessionism and armed revolution. The game, developed by ESCTaiwan, allows players to pledge allegiance to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Tibet, or Uyghurs to overthrow the Communist regime. Hong Kong police claim the game, was intended to promote "Taiwan independence' and 'Hong Kong independence", may lead to prosecution for those who download it. The game's website declares its similarity to actual agencies and policies of the People's Republic of China is intentional. Critics argue the ban exemplifies the erosion of democratic freedoms in Hong Kong under Chinese Communist Party control, destroying creative freedom in gaming.

Tragedy as South Korean model Kim Jong Suk plunges to his death from apartment block aged 29 as family reveals he had lost life savings in an 'investment scam'

A prominent South Korean model and TV star died last week, sparking rumours over the circumstances of his passing. Kim Jong Suk, 29, passed away on June 4 amid reports that a man in his 20s plunged from atop a high-rise apartment block in the city of Hanam, Gyeonggi province, after an altercation with his girlfriend in which a glass bottle was smashed. Those reports triggered rumours the reality TV contestant took his own life after the bitter argument to avoid dealing with police. His family confirmed the model had passed away on June 6 when he was laid to rest, but gave no details of his death. However, his sister took to social media to condemn those sharing rumours that Suk had assaulted his girlfriend, writing: 'The false information spreading online is causing our family immense pain.' In a lengthy post three days later, she issued a rejection of the circulating rumours, instead declaring that her brother was left reeling after falling victim to an investment scam. 'The claims that he barged into his girlfriend's home drunk, caused a disturbance with a soju bottle, and jumped when the police arrived are not true. 'He was under extreme financial and emotional distress due to an investment scam committed by an acquaintance. 'Not only did he lose his entire fortune, but he also fell into debt from the fraud, making daily life difficult. He was exhausted from these circumstances and had been deep in thought for some time.' Suk began his career as a model for various fashion brands and garnered notoriety in South Korea after a promotional video he appeared in for men's cosmetic brand Dashu went viral. As his profile grew, he took part in a series of the popular South Korean reality TV show 'Skip Dating', which sees eight 'busy, modern young men and women' paired up for a single blind date to see if any sparks fly. In the days prior to his death, Suk reportedly shared regular updates on social media, but his family opted to make all of his accounts private in the wake of his passing. In her post on Monday, Suk's sister went on to clarify that an argument had indeed taken place between Suk and his girlfriend, but insisted that no assault took place. 'Jong Suk and his girlfriend were drinking separately with their own acquaintances. When he couldn't reach her, he became worried and went to her home with a friend. 'Later, when his girlfriend woke up, there was no unilateral assault or rampage — just a simple argument between the couple. 'As others tried to intervene and tensions seemed to rise, Jong Suk's friend broke a soju bottle in an attempt to stop the argument, which led to the police being called. 'Claims that he ran away or tried to avoid the police are also untrue. The sister said she would later release messages sent by Suk to his girlfriend and audio recordings of his discussion with police at a later date. She also said the family would pursue legal action against news sites and social media accounts spreading false rumours around his death.
