Wi-Fi segment to be worth $22 bn by 2035 in India: Jyotiraditya Scindia
Highlighting the recent de-licensing of the 6 GHz spectrum, the Minister said this move will enable multi-gigabit speeds and low-cost digital highways across India ANI General News Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, in his keynote address at the World Wi-Fi Day Conference organised by the Broadband India Forum, stated that Wi-Fi will be a $22 billion segment in India by 2035, playing a transformative role in the nation's digital journey. Describing Wi-Fi as "an invisible force capable of powering visible change," Scindia hailed India's rapid strides in digital inclusion, noting that India now contributes 46 per cent of global digital transactions. He emphasised that connectivity is no longer a luxury, but a fundamental tool of empowerment, akin to access to capital and infrastructure in previous eras. "Wi-Fi is not just about internet access; it's about widespread inclusion in India in the future. Every hotspot must become a hope spot," said Scindia, outlining a vision for grassroots entrepreneurship driven by affordable devices, ubiquitous networks, and deregulated spectrum. He underscored Prime Minister Modi's vision behind PM-WANI (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) as a game-changer that democratises digital access, especially in villages. Citing the success of India's low-cost data model, Rs 9 per GB compared to the global average of $2.49, he praised India's leadership in telecom affordability. Highlighting the recent de-licensing of the 6 GHz spectrum, the Minister said this move will enable multi-gigabit speeds and low-cost digital highways across India. Policy rules for the same will be announced before Independence Day 2025, he added. Scindia also called on industry stakeholders to innovate for affordable devices, ensuring that hardware does not become the next barrier to connectivity. "Connectivity is not a commodity; it is an act of nation-building," he concluded, urging collective commitment to light up every rural home, empower every aspiring mind, and fortify public services with the power of Wi-Fi. Need for robust data quality to fortify digital governance, cultivate public trust: Niti Aayog report
Niti Aayog on Tuesday emphasised the urgent need for robust data quality to fortify digital governance , cultivate public trust , and ensure efficient service delivery. The government think-tank released the third edition of its quarterly insights series Future Front, titled 'India's Data Imperative: The Pivot Towards Quality'. The report critically examines the pervasive challenges posed by poor data quality and introduces practical, easy-to-use tools: a Data-Quality Scorecard to measure and track data quality attributes, and a Data-Quality Maturity Framework for self-assessment and roadmap development. "India's digital future will be shaped not just by how many platforms we build, but by how much trust we build into them. And that begins with data that's ready to serve," the report said. The report was released by Niti Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam, Secretary of MoSPI Saurabh Garg, and Aayog's Distinguished Fellow Debjani Ghosh. Live Events It further noted that while India's digital foundation are in place, the challenge now is ensuring that what flows though them is accurate, complete, and trusted. "Data quality is no longer a back-end concern; it is central to public trust, effective service delivery, and the success of India's own AI ecosystem," it said. States can lead the way by embedding data quality cells, linking quality to service outcomes, and recognising excellence. Capacity building, leadership development, and hands-on support will be essential to sustain momentum, it added. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

Rajnath Singh to push anti-terror agenda at SCO meet in China
New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in a renewed diplomatic push against Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism, is set to call on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to intensify efforts to curb terrorism during a two-day conclave in China's Qingdao, beginning Wednesday. Singh will be visiting the port city in China's eastern Shandong province to attend the SCO Defence Ministers' meet from June 25-26, which is expected to deliberate extensively on the evolving regional security architecture. His visit comes just over a month after Operation Sindoor, under which India conducted targeted airstrikes on nine high-value terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. This marks the first trip to China by an Indian Union Minister since bilateral relations were severely strained by the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh that began in May 2020. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is also currently in China for a meeting of SCO national security chiefs. According to an official readout, Singh will reaffirm India's steadfast commitment to the SCO's core principles and objectives while laying out New Delhi's vision for enhanced regional cooperation to combat terrorism and extremism. The Defence Minister is expected to highlight the importance of joint, consistent, and coordinated action to eliminate threats to peace and stability in the region. He will also underscore the need for deeper trade, economic collaboration, and improved connectivity within the SCO framework. In addition to addressing the plenary, Singh will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several participating nations, including China and Russia. "India attaches special importance to SCO in promoting multilateralism, political, security, economic and people-to-people interactions in the region. SCO pursues its policy based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity of nations, non-interference in internal affairs, mutual respect, understanding and equality of all member states," the Ministry of Defence said. China is hosting the conclave as the current chair of the SCO. Relations between India and China have remained tense since the violent Galwan Valley clash in June 2020, though recent diplomatic engagements have aimed at thawing ties. The military standoff officially ended following the completion of disengagement at Demchok and Depsang in October last year. NSA Doval's Beijing visit in December and his discussions with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi under the Special Representatives (SR) framework marked a key step in reviving dialogue. The decision to reactivate the SR mechanism was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23.
