Russian Ministry of Health is ready to support training of Ethiopian doctors
Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko and Ethiopian Ambassador to Moscow Genet Teshome Girru discussed plans of cooperation between the countries in the field of health care and prospects of its development for the current year. This is reported on the website of the Russian Ministry.
They agreed to increase comprehensive cooperation, including in the field of medical education. According to Murashko, 24 Ethiopian citizens are now studying in Russian universities. He added that the Russian leadership is ready to expand this cooperation and support the training of Ethiopian specialists in narrow medical fields, according to Fana Media Corporation (FMC), a partner of TV BRICS.
"Today, among other things, we are engaged in training specialists who already have medical education. In particular, 87 Ethiopian medical professionals have been trained in our country on maternal and child care," Murashko emphasised.
At the meeting the Minister and the Ambassador outlined joint plans. Among them is holding consultations of patients in Ethiopia by Russian specialists. Murashko added that medics from Russia are ready to share knowledge with their Ethiopian colleagues.
Moscow and Addis Ababa maintain active cooperation in this sphere. For example, the Russian side supplies mobile laboratories to Ethiopia to support the efforts of the republic's authorities to strengthen the healthcare system

The strike, according to police, was allegedly linked to patient deaths — a claim Amnesty International and other rights groups say lacks transparency and may be politically motivated. The court documents cited by police claim Dr. Daniel played a central role in 'mobilizing medical professionals to participate in a strike that led to loss of lives.' Amnesty, however, views the prosecution as part of a broader crackdown on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly in Ethiopia. 'This case is emblematic of the growing trend of repression by Ethiopian authorities,' Amnesty International said, warning of the country's 'alarming slide into authoritarianism.' Dr. Daniel is also the founder of MAC-Ethiopia and is widely known for managing the 'Dr. Debol' Facebook page, where he has advocated for better working conditions in the public health sector. His arrest has sparked widespread outrage among professional organizations and rights groups. On 20 June, the Ethiopian Health Professional Movement (EHPM) issued a statement condemning the detention, calling it a 'direct assault on the dignity of the health workforce and a violation of constitutional rights.' 'This is not just an attack on Dr. Daniel,' the EHPM stated. 'It is an attack on the fundamental freedoms of expression and association that every Ethiopian citizen is entitled to.' Human Rights Watch (HRW) echoed similar concerns in a 25 June report, calling on the government to reverse its suspension of a key health professionals' association and engage meaningfully with healthcare workers' demands. 'Laetitia Bader,' Deputy Africa Director at HRW, criticized Ethiopian authorities for using repressive tactics instead of addressing health workers' long-standing grievances around salaries, safety, and working conditions. The controversy surrounding Dr. Daniel's detention comes against the backdrop of a nationwide strike by healthcare professionals, which began in May. The strike calls for fair wages and improved working conditions, and has garnered significant public attention. Last week, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met with representatives from the healthcare sector, but his comments during the meeting have raised concern. The Prime Minister reportedly suggested that the doctors' movement may be politically driven, and claimed some health workers were intentionally damaging equipment to push patients toward private clinics — an allegation many see as an attempt to discredit the movement. While he acknowledged the sector's challenges, Prime Minister Abiy maintained that salary increases are currently not feasible, and instead urged health workers to find motivation in the humanitarian value of their work. Amnesty International concluded its statement by urging the Amhara Region Police Commission to release Dr. Daniel immediately and unconditionally, and called on Ethiopian authorities to respect the rights of health workers to peaceful protest.

FM reviews efforts to export Egyptian medicines to African markets
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, a meeting with Dr. Hisham Steet, Head of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply, and the Management of Technology, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the two sides to support the export of Egyptian medicines and medical supplies to African markets. He affirmed the Ministry's aspiration to continue this constructive collaboration, which contributes to enhancing the accessibility of Egyptian pharmaceuticals to African Minister also extended his congratulations to Dr. Hisham Steet on the success of the fourth edition of the Africa Health ExCon conference and exhibition, which was held from June 24 to 27 under the auspices of the President of the Republic. He commended the level of cooperation and integration between various government entities and the private sector, which was reflected in the professional organization and broad participation from African countries and international organizations. Minister Abdelatty reviewed the Ministry's efforts to boost the penetration of Egyptian pharmaceutical exports into African markets through active engagement at both bilateral and multilateral levels to open new horizons for Egyptian pharmaceutical products across the continent. He pointed to the national strategy formulated during the meetings of the Permanent Committee for Egyptian-African Relations, which aims to raise the value of Egyptian pharmaceutical exports to $5 billion by 2030. The meeting also discussed the Authority's aspiration to enhance Egypt's role in the African procurement mechanism and its efforts to position Egypt as a regional hub for African collective procurement, in support of Egypt's pivotal role in the continent's healthcare system. The discussion further touched on the potential to promote medical tourism to Egypt as a high-value area of cooperation that complements the state's efforts to provide a comprehensive healthcare model serving African brothers and sisters. At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue close coordination and to follow up on the implementation of agreed-upon strategic priorities aimed at maximizing opportunities for Egyptian pharmaceuticals in Africa and reinforcing Egypt's leadership in health security across the continent.

Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters

At least eight IRGC personnel, including two senior commanders, are currently receiving medical treatment at Hadassah Medical Moscow, the source said. Additional patients are expected to arrive from Iran following the recent resumption of direct flights between Tehran and Moscow. The revelations add to mounting scrutiny of the Russian outpost of Israeli Hadassah Medical Organization that operates two major hospitals and several medical schools in Israel. Widely regarded as one of the country's premier healthcare providers, Hadassah serves more than a million patients annually and employs over 5,000 medical professionals. Hadassah launched its Moscow facility – Hadassah Medical Moscow - in 2018 with a $15 million investment, promoting it as a hub for advanced care under Israeli medical oversight. Since then, however, the clinic's patient roster has drawn criticism from lawmakers and media in Israel. Last year, media reported that the clinic treated wounded members of Hamas and Hezbollah, despite restrictions imposed by Israel's Ministry of Health. Revelations emerged that a close confidant of Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif received intensive care at Hadassah Medical Moscow facility after being injured in clashes with Israeli forces. These reports sparked calls from Israeli lawmakers to shut down the Moscow branch, with some officials describing its ongoing operations in Russia as a 'betrayal of Israeli-Western values.' Despite the controversy, the clinic has expanded its activities. Over 40 doctors from Israel have been dispatched to Moscow since October 2024 to support its growing operations. According to unconfirmed reports, Russia's nuclear corporation Rosatom has acquired a stake in Hadassah Medical Moscow (which explains the treatment of specialists from Iranian nuclear facilities at this clinic). Hadassah Medical Moscow also reportedly provided a full medical examination to exiled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his wife Asma. A team of Israeli oncologists — not affiliated with the Moscow branch — allegedly traveled to their hotel in Moscow with medical equipment and performed the procedures on-site. Across parts of the Middle East, the clinic's willingness to treat patients opposing Israel has drawn ridicule from Arabs. Some observers characterize the treatment of Israel's adversaries at Hadassah Medical Moscow as a consistent policy of the clinic and Rosatom. More than 600 people were reportedly killed and over 3,000 wounded in Israeli strikes on Iran during the 12-day conflict earlier this month, according to Iranian media.
