KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) announced it is providing financing to the rooftop solar power regeneration business of Altervim, the renewable energy unit of Thai conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group.
The banking group said it is providing Altervim its maiden green loan for the solar business, which is in line with the group's sustainability goals of driving energy transition across Asean.
In the initial phase of its expansion in Malaysia, Altervim will deliver installed solar capacity of up to 20MW with Lotus's Malaysia's 28 branches.
This is expected to generate 24.65 million kWh of clean energy per year and offset a total of 433,958 tonnes of CO2 emissions
throughout the lifecycle of the projects.
"We are proud to support Altervim's foray into Malaysia, while contributing to the government's energy transition agenda to
increasing the renewable energy mix.
"The financing facility to Altervim is structured according to Maybank's Sustainable Product Framework, and adds to the Bank's growing portfolio of sustainable finance," said Maybank global banking group CEO Datuk John Chong in a statement.
From 2021 to 1Q25, Maybank as a group across the region
mobilised RM125.46bil in sustainable finance, exceeding its RM80bil target by 2025.
Altervim chief financial officer Borvorn Pienpongpanich said Malaysia is one of its key growth markets, with the facility enabling it to expand faster, deliver real carbon savings and help businesses reduce their energy costs with green energy.

Thailand's Delta sees AI boom boosting sales

Delta Electronics (Thailand) chief executive officer Victor Cheng. — Bloomberg BANGKOK: Delta Electronics (Thailand) Pcl, the country's most valuable publicly traded company, is predicting 'double-digit' sales growth to continue for at least the next couple of years on rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI)-related tech, says chief executive officer Victor Cheng. The maker of components for data centres and electric vehicles is boosting investment to fuel its expansion. The company planned to raise its sales forecast for the second half of this year. AI-related products, such as networking and data-centre power equipment, will account for half of Delta Thailand's sales by the end of the year, up from 42% in the latest quarter, the company forecasts. It is among South-East Asian suppliers benefiting as customers including Nvidia Corp expand in the region and beyond to tap rising demand for services such as generative AI. 'All the applications involving AI will continue to grow,' Cheng said. 'This business is not slowing down.' Among challenges is a US tariff of 19% on Thai exports, though Cheng said he isn't too worried as the company can 'pretty much pass on all the tariffs to customers.' The United States accounts for as much as 35% of Delta Thailand's sales, he said. — Bloomberg

PRCA Thailand Conference Reveals Nine in Ten Thais Want Transparency as AI Use Explodes

BANGKOK, THAILAND - Media OutReach Newswire - 14 August 2025 – As Thailand accelerates investment in artificial intelligence (AI), new research from PRCA APAC and YouGov reveals that trust is the cornerstone of public acceptance. While there is cautious optimism and strong calls for regulation, the Thai public expects transparency from brands and institutions to build and maintain that trust. Presented at the inaugural PRCA Thailand Conference 2025, the study, titled 'The Impact of AI on Thai Society', reveals a complex national picture. While Thailand is emerging as a regional leader in AI, with a USD 15.4 billion investment in infrastructure and a national plan to produce 90,000 AI professionals, the public remains sharply aware of the risks that come with rapid adoption. Key highlights from the research include: --> Transparency builds trust: 92% of Thais want brands to disclose AI use. Trust spikes among Gen Z (37%) and young families (31%) when AI use is transparent. --> Misuse tops concerns: 40% cite AI misuse as their biggest worry, followed by misinformation, deepfakes, privacy, and ethics. Gen X and rural groups are most cautious. --> AI supports, not replaces: 55% say AI boosts efficiency, but most agree it should enhance—not replace—human creativity. --> Demand for guidance: Many want practical AI education online and offline, with calls for stronger government regulation on ethics and skills training. 'Trust and transparency aren't just public expectations, they're now brand imperatives in the AI era,' said Dr. Karine Lohitnavy, Chair of PRCA Thailand and Founder of Midas PR. 'As communicators, we have a vital role to play in bridging the gap between innovation and understanding. That means helping the public make sense of AI's impact while holding brands accountable to ethical, human-first storytelling.' Speaker Narongyod Mahittivanicha, Founder of TWF Agency and Vice President of the Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand, reinforced the irreplaceable role of human creativity in public relations. Referencing a recent viral Coldplay-related campaign known as the 'Astronomer CEO' crisis response, he noted that the level of creativity, emotional intelligence, and nuance involved is something AI cannot yet replicate. In a fireside chat titled 'Viva La Press Release! Old Format, New Tech,' Jennifer Kok, Founder and CEO of Media OutReach Newswire, said: 'In today's digital publishing and AI era, press releases play a vital role in driving brand trust through verbatim, guaranteed posting on authoritative news websites. These features give PR professionals the ability to control the narrative of key corporate messages, building brand equity with targeted journalists and media across their chosen markets. The advancements in AI will further empower the public relations industry.' Panel discussions included leaders from Microsoft Thailand, SCBx, Predictive, and Xponential Co., exploring AI's real-world applications in PR, brand reputation, and public perception. Moderated by Edelman Thailand's Vorasit Turongsomboon and digital creator Tossapol Leongsuppon, the panels addressed ethical governance, influencer transparency, and the public's call for structured AI education and stronger regulation. Jaruwan Vorarakthananun, Communications Lead at Microsoft Thailand, said: 'AI isn't here to replace communications professionals—it's here to empower us. Generative AI is still evolving, learning every day. It's up to us to guide its growth and ensure it truly works for us. Don't hesitate to adopt AI into your daily work. Treat it as a trusted assistant that helps us work smarter, faster, and with greater impact.' The inaugural PRCA Thailand Conference took place on 6 August 2025 at SCBx NEXT Tech, Siam Paragon, bringing together professionals from Thailand's public relations, business, and technology communities. The conference was supported by Gold Sponsor Media OutReach Newswire and other sponsors, including Edelman Thailand, MIDAS-PR, Moonshot Digital, Vero, SCBX, and YouGov.

Ringgit retreats after three days of gains

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed lower today, snapping three consecutive days of gains as profit-taking emerged, with traders opting to lock in earlier gains. At 6 pm, the local note slipped to 4.2090/2145 from Wednesday's close of 4.2040/2085. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the ringgit recorded a sharp rise earlier in the day, reaching as high as 4.1860 during the morning session, before the US dollar-ringgit pair climbed to 4.2088 later in the day. He noted that the USDMYR had crossed the psychological threshold of 4.20, but profit-taking activities may have emerged as traders sought to lock in gains. "At the current juncture, enthusiasm for an interest rate cut by the United States Federal Reserve (Fed) has gained momentum, and it is taking a toll on the US dollar. "The impression that the Fed might be behind the curve in managing the monetary policy could also have contributed to the weakness in the US dollar,' he told Bernama. At the close, the ringgit ended mostly lower against major currencies, except the euro, against which it appreciated to 4.9170/9234 from 4.9305/9357. It fell versus the Japanese yen to 2.8703/8742 from Wednesday's close of 2.8554/8586 and decreased vis-a-vis the British pound to 5.7146/7220 from 5.7078/7139. The ringgit traded mostly higher against regional peers. It strengthened versus the Singapore dollar to 3.2849/2895 from 3.2864/2902 at yesterday's close, rose versus the Thai baht to 13.0004/0238 from 13.0276/0476, and was higher against the Philippine peso to 7.39/7.41 from 7.41/7.42. However, the local note depreciated against the Indonesian rupiah to 261.1/261.6 from 259.4/259.8. - Bernama
