Tui cheers profit jump despite pressure from heat waves and Middle East conflict
The German-based tour operator saw profits surpass expectations after positive trading from its cruises and experiences operations.
The update came a day after the company upgraded its financial forecasts for the current year.
Tui Group chief executive Sebastian Ebel said: 'The third quarter and the first nine months of the financial year 2025 were strong. Our strategy is paying off.
'We are benefiting from our integrated and diversified business model and managed to reduce the group's seasonality further.
'All this in a continuing challenging environment for our markets and airlines segment with economic difficulties in Europe, Europe-wide heat waves in the summer and the conflict in the Middle East.'
The company said summer bookings in its markets and airlines business are down 2% year-on-year.
Tui said this has been driven by a continued trend towards late bookings, citing 'the impact of the June and July heat waves in our source markets, as well as the Middle East conflict'.
But it highlighted a 'positive start' to bookings for the winter season.
It came as Tui cheered record underlying earnings for the quarter to June 30, rising to 321 million euros (£278 million) from 232 million euros (£201 million) a year earlier.
This was supported by a 56.2% jump in earnings from its cruises business, which was buoyed by the launch of two new cruise ships and strong trading conditions.
Meanwhile, earnings in its Tui Musement activities and experiences business were up 6.8% for the quarter.
The company said total underlying earnings are now on track to grow by between 9% and 11% this year. It previously forecast growth of between 7% and 10%.
Tui told shareholders that total group revenues increased by 7.1% to 6.2 billion euros (£5.4 billion) for the quarter, amid growth in both volumes and prices.

ATP players handed record £13.5m profit-sharing bonus
Men's tennis players will pocket a record $18.3m (£13.5m) in profit-sharing bonuses from the 2024 season as the ATP stepped up its efforts to forge a more sustainable and financially aligned future for the sport. The bonus amount, a 177 per cent increase on the previous season's payout, will be distributed to players based on performance at the nine ATP 1000 tournaments, which rank just below the four Grand Slams in prestige. "This is exactly what profit sharing was designed to do: ensure that players and tournaments share equally in the sport's financial upside," ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said on Thursday. "The $18.3m is a huge milestone. For us, it's proof that strengthening the premium product and aligning interests creates value. The profit-sharing plan, introduced in 2022, splits profits generated at ATP Masters 1000 events - above onsite base prize money - equally between players and tournaments and is a cornerstone of the tour's OneVision strategic plan. Profit-sharing helped push ATP player compensation to a record $261m (£192.7m) for the 2024 season for a total of $378m (£279.2m) when combined with Grand Slam prize money. The men's elite body added that it was on track to deliver more compensation records, including $28.5m (£21m) in Challenger Tour prize money and a $3m (£2.2m) ATP 500 bonus pool. The expansion of most of the Masters events to 96-player draws had increased earning opportunities for players, widening the number of those able to make a sustainable living from the sport, the ATP added. It said there was a "wave of infrastructure investment" as Madrid, Rome, Cincinnati, Shanghai and Paris, among other venues, had upgraded facilities to enhance the experience for players and spectators.

CEO of Germany state rail operator to leave post, sources say
BERLIN, Aug 14 (Reuters) - The CEO of Germany's dominant rail operator Deutsche Bahn ( Richard Lutz, will leave the company, government and company sources said on Thursday. More than a decade of under-investment amid tight government budgets has left its mark on the state-owned operator's ageing infrastructure, leading to disruptions and delayed trains. Lutz, who has been in the job since March 2017, has said that much still had to be done to pull Deutsche Bahn out of crisis. The company declined to comment on his reported departure. Large public events in Germany last year such as the Euro soccer tournament and Taylor Swift's tour put Deutsche Bahn in the spotlight internationally for delayed and crowded trains. The company has started upgrading its tracks, crossings and overhead lines, but the process will initially add to delays and cancellations. Deutsche Bahn in March posted heavy losses for 2024 but said it aims to post an operating profit again this year thanks to cost cuts and infrastructure investments.

Mitchell, 26, who joined the Beckham's on their summer jaunt to St Tropez with David and Victoria, is a professional footballer, much like Romeo with the duo having played for the same side. He currently plays for Premier Division club Whitby Town but began his career in 2017 playing for Middlesbrough, before he signed to Sunderland in 2020. In April 2021, he signed for Inter Miami CF II, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which is the reserve team of Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF and co-owned by none other than David himself. David owns Inter Miami with Jorge and Jose Mas which they officially launched in 2018. The team began playing during the 2020 season with his son Romeo also being signed for the reserve team Inter Miami CF II in September 2021.
