Preparations in full swing as Malaysia readies to host ASEAN Education Roundtables
A Bernama check at the event venue - a hotel here - today observed workers making final preparations ahead of the forum's commencement tomorrow.
The workers were also seen busy decorating the venue with floral arrangements.
Throughout the two-day programme, beginning tomorrow, the ministers and senior officials are expected to deliberate on a new framework that will guide the region's educational direction moving forward.
In addition to the closed-door ASEAN Ministers of Education Roundtable session on June 19, Malaysia's Ministry of Education (MOE) will host the ASEAN Forum on Education tomorrow with the same theme, 'Accelerating Innovative Strategies: Mitigating Out-of-School Children and Youth (OOSCY) Challenges.'
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek is scheduled to deliver her remarks on Thursday.
For higher education segment, key items on the agenda include the expected endorsement of the ASEAN Leaders' Declaration on Higher Education and the ASEAN Global Exchange for Mobility and Scholarship (ASEAN GEMS).
This marks Malaysia's fifth time as ASEAN Chair, following previous terms in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015.

PASIR SALAK, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded defence and security forces personnel not to misuse their rank or position to commit unlawful acts. Ahmad Zahid said he supported Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar's stand that there would be no compromise in dealing with abuse of power. 'I agree with his statement that firm action will be taken against collusion involving military officers, not only as informants but also when directly involved,' he told reporters after officiating the Perak Community Development Department (KEMAS) Santunan Desa Programme here today.

Ahmad Zahid pushes for KEMAS contract staff permanent posts in Budget 2026
PASIR SALAK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes the proposal to convert KEMAS contract staff into permanent positions will be part of Budget 2026. He stated the plan is under discussion and would not require new posts or extra expenditure. 'If implemented, this can set a precedent for other contract roles to become permanent without pension benefits,' he said. He urged for quick approval, noting the move would be beneficial and non-controversial. Ahmad Zahid spoke after officiating the Perak KEMAS Santunan Desa Programme at Dewan Besar Bandar Baru Felcra Seberang Perak.
