Wisconsin football offers one of the class of 2027's top offensive linemen
Wisconsin football is setting its sights high in the class of 2027. On the same day that the program offered top-ranked quarterback Malachi Zeigler, it also extended an offer to four-star offensive lineman Will Slagle.
The lineman's offer sheet is already loaded, even with the 2027 cycle in its infancy. The Badgers join a group that includes Auburn, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Stanford.
247Sports currently ranks Slagle as the No. 146 overall player in the class of 2027, the No. 5 interior offensive lineman and the top recruit from his home state of Iowa. The service has yet to release a crystal ball prediction for his commitment, though On3 lists the in-state Hawkeyes as the favorite (41.9%) at this early stage of the cycle.
Wisconsin extended an offer to Slagle as it still works to build its class of 2026. While official visits for the class have yet to begin in earnest, the program has just seven players committed, none of whom are blue-chip prospects. That committed group currently ranks No. 42 nationally.
Wisconsin will likely need to contend with Iowa for the top-ranked lineman's commitment. Given the Hawkeyes' history at the position, the Badgers may need an exceptional showing on offense in year one under coordinator Jeff Grimes for the program to enter the picture. Wisconsin enters the season looking to reverse its current momentum, which is pointed in the wrong direction, after the first two years of the Luke Fickell era.

Chicago Cubs' Tyson Miller to Rejoin Triple-A Iowa or Elect Free Agency

Chicago Cubs' Tyson Miller to Rejoin Triple-A Iowa or Elect Free Agency originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller has cleared waivers and can either elect free agency or stay with Triple-A Iowa, according to the transactions log. Advertisement Miller has already had a productive season for Iowa, with a 2.77 ERA over 12 games and 13 innings. However, despite those results, the Cubs felt there was no spot for him on the Big League roster. Chicago did get an up-close and personal look at Miller last summer when he rejoined the team in May. Over 49 outings and 50 and 1/3 innings, Miller impressed with a 2.15 ERA, a 3.62 FIP, and 42 strikeouts to 10 walks. Chicago Cubs pitcher Tyson Miller (49) throws a pitch against the Hanshin Tigers during the fourth inning at Tokyo Yamashita-Imagn Images Those 49 games represent a significant chunk of his MLB tenure (74 career appearances, 93 innings). A fourth-round selection in the 2016 Draft by the Cubs, Miller also pitched in two games during the 2020 COVID season before various stops around the country, including the Texas Rangers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Seattle Mariners. Advertisement Chicago should feel good about its bullpen with or without Miller, as they ranked sixth in the Majors with a combined ERA of 3.31. Porter Hodge may be on the 15-day injured list, but his 5.12 ERA and 4.17 FIP were underwhelming. Meanwhile, Daniel Palencia (1.96 ERA, 2.73 FIP, five saves), Brad Keller (1.99 ERA, 2.20 FIP), Ryan Pressly (3.96 ERA, 3.88 FIP), and Caleb Thielbar (1.85 ERA, 2.50 FIP) have sneakily formed one of their better four reliever groups in baseball. Hopefully for the Cubs, Miller chooses to stay with the organization and continue to hone his already solid stuff. Ohio State basketball unveils new Value City Arena court design

Ohio State basketball unveils new Value City Arena court design Out with the old, in with the new. On Friday, days after teasing a new court design and reminiscing about hardwood designs of the past, the Ohio State basketball program unveiled a new, sleek look for the upcoming season and beyond. Gone are the plain wood colored floorboards with accented scarlet and gray. The new look features a main gray pallet for the base floorboard color with red accenting things on the baselines, out of bounds, and lane areas, all with a pop of pure white outlining the shapes and letters. It also appears as though the "O" or stained color of Ohio at midcourt will be replaced by "Buckeyes," which will be a first in program history. In case you didn't get a chance to view the new design, the Ohio State Hoops "X" account (formerly Twitter), unveiled the new design via a creative team post on Friday. Have a look at the past, and through to the design coming to an arena near you soon, all set to some heart-thumping music and radio calls from years before. We like it here at Buckeyes Wire. It's not a traditional look per se, but it does bring things into today with a more progressive design that other programs are going to. Tez Johnson stealing the show at Buccaneers minicamp

Tez Johnson stealing the show at Buccaneers minicamp Tez Johnson wasn't on anyone's radar when he left the Troy Trojans back in 2023. But when he landed with the Oregon Ducks, he dazzled audiences and greatly improved his draft outlook. He was selected towards the end of the draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round, but it is much better than going undrafted. Most players selected as late as Johnson struggle to even make the team's roster, but it seems the Oregon standout has a solid chance. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him with the 235th overall pick and if he played at all during his rookie season it was assumed it would be on special teams. However, head coach Todd Bowles spoke to the media following a practice session this week, offering a glowing review of Johnson. 'He could be a vital part of our offense if he continues trending the way he's trending.' Not only does Bowles think he's capable of impacting the offense, he thinks Johnson could be one of the driving forces. The Buccaneers are getting to see some of the game-breaking speed and elusiveness that electrified crowds back in Eugene, and they have clearly fallen in love.
