Michigan football surges in race for 2027 four-star QB Peter Bourque, per On3 predictions

Just when it looked as if Michigan football was narrowing in on its 2027 quarterback, things changed -- perhaps for the better. The Wolverines were connected to Benton (La.) four-star QB Malachi Zeigler, as the player who appeared to be the top target at the position seemed to be trending elsewhere. However, on Saturday, the momentum shifted, and one of the familiar names now looks to be getting closer to choosing the maize and blue. Hailing from Marion (Mass.) Tabor Academy, four-star signal caller Peter Bourque has long had a connection to the Wolverines. And now, according to Steve Wiltfong and others at On3, Bourque is trending toward choosing Michigan football. Bourque is rated as the No. 75 player in the country, regardless of position, according to the 247Sports Composite. He's the sixth-best quarterback and top player in the state of Massachusetts. He's listed at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds as he prepares to enter his junior year. Here's the scouting report via 247Sports: Towering pocket passer with a live arm that has turned heads with his exit velocity, release points and ball placement. Will head to college with a little more seasoning than others after electing to reclassify and move back a year. That gained maturity constantly shows up on tape as he's a decisive thrower that limits risks. Sees the field well and will let route concepts develop while coordinating a modern pro-style attack. Rips tight spirals to the second and third levels with ease and has proven to be extremely efficient working off play-action. Grew up playing lacrosse and those movement skills translate over to the gridiron as he will climb away from pressure and step into throws. Not one that's afraid to embrace contact. Hasn't faced the highest-level of competition in New England, but has delivered in key moments, which counts. Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level that can challenge defense vertically. Penn State had previously been considered the favorite. It's unclear Bourque's timeline, but with the official Michigan football X account indicating a commitment is nigh, along with Bourque posting eyeball emojis soon after (which is what head coach Sherrone Moore uses to indicate a commitment is coming), it could come along sooner than later if the predictions are accurate.

Wisconsin football offers one of the class of 2027's top offensive linemen

Wisconsin football offers one of the class of 2027's top offensive linemen Wisconsin football is setting its sights high in the class of 2027. On the same day that the program offered top-ranked quarterback Malachi Zeigler, it also extended an offer to four-star offensive lineman Will Slagle. The lineman's offer sheet is already loaded, even with the 2027 cycle in its infancy. The Badgers join a group that includes Auburn, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Stanford. 247Sports currently ranks Slagle as the No. 146 overall player in the class of 2027, the No. 5 interior offensive lineman and the top recruit from his home state of Iowa. The service has yet to release a crystal ball prediction for his commitment, though On3 lists the in-state Hawkeyes as the favorite (41.9%) at this early stage of the cycle. Wisconsin extended an offer to Slagle as it still works to build its class of 2026. While official visits for the class have yet to begin in earnest, the program has just seven players committed, none of whom are blue-chip prospects. That committed group currently ranks No. 42 nationally. Wisconsin will likely need to contend with Iowa for the top-ranked lineman's commitment. Given the Hawkeyes' history at the position, the Badgers may need an exceptional showing on offense in year one under coordinator Jeff Grimes for the program to enter the picture. Wisconsin enters the season looking to reverse its current momentum, which is pointed in the wrong direction, after the first two years of the Luke Fickell era.
