Bangladesh vs Pakistan LIVE SCORE UPDATES 1st T20: Bangladesh eye winning start; toss at 5 PM IST
The white-ball rivalry between Bangladesh and Pakistan is set to resume on Sunday, July 20, as the two sides face off in the first T20I at the iconic Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. This three-match series arrives at an interesting moment for both camps—Bangladesh are riding a wave of confidence, while Pakistan are stepping into a transitional phase with a young core and new leadership.
The Tigers return home after a morale-boosting 2-1 series win in Sri Lanka, a tour where their batting unit showed far more intent and adaptability than seen in recent months. Led by Litton Das, Bangladesh will look to make the most of their home conditions, crowd energy, and recent form to strike the first blow in the series.
Pakistan, however, have history on their side. They completed a clinical 3-0 sweep over Bangladesh in their last T20I series just weeks ago, albeit on home turf. This time, they arrive in Dhaka with a fresh-looking squad headed by Agha Salman. With senior players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah rested, the spotlight will be on Pakistan's next-gen talents to step up and make a strong start under the guidance of newly appointed white-ball coach Mike Hesson.
Both teams are building toward the next T20 World Cup, and this series offers valuable game-time to test their depth, flexibility, and readiness for high-stakes white-ball cricket. The opening contest, set against the backdrop of a buzzing Dhaka crowd and challenging subcontinent conditions, could set the tone for a gripping series ahead. Women's Euro 2025: Spain being ‘the best team of the tournament' wasn't enough to win trophy, says Aitana Bonmati
Being the most skillful and technically best team at the Women's European Championship wasn't enough to get Spain the title on Sunday. The 2023 World Cup winner and 2024 UEFA Nations League title holder still does not have a European title for its stellar generation after a penalty shootout loss to England in the final after a 1-1 draw after extra time. Spain trailed for just four minutes' play across six games in the entire tournament. England led for barely five minutes' play in its three knockout rounds games — and none against Spain. 'We were the best team of the tournament, but sometimes that's not enough,' Spain star Aitana Bonmatí said. Bonmatí cut a sad figure walking to the trophy ceremony platform to collect her trophy as the best player of the tournament, which she began days after being hospitalized with a bout of viral meningitis. Bonmatí's spot kick in the shootout was one of two saved by England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton. Mariona Caldentey, whose 25th-minute headed goal seemed to set Spain on track for victory, also had her penalty saved. Caldentey also went close to scoring a second time in the first half, in which tournament top scorer Esther Gonzalez had three chances to score. Early in the second half, Caldentey's Arsenal teammates Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo combined to level the score on Russo's header. 'I'm a bit in shock,' Bonmatí said. 'It was cruel. We played better, created more scoring chances, but in soccer sometimes that's not enough. It all came down to the penalties.' 'I'm sorry for my miss,' said two-time Ballon d'Or winner Bonmatí, whose teammates Caldentey and Alexia Putellas also failed from the spot in a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Switzerland. 'I think this team deserved more. At least not living with this bitter feeling,' Spain coach Montse Tomé said in translated comments. Spain captain Irene Paredes said it was 'hard to look for the positives so soon. Right now, it's a very tough moment.' 'England were happy just to reach penalties but, in the shootout, we didn't perform well,' said Paredes, whose Barcelona team also lost the Women's Champions League final in May to an English opponent, Arsenal. 'To be a champion you need some luck, and I believe they had it.' Spain still is a world champion and will soon prepare to start qualifying for the defense of its title. The 2027 World Cup is being played in Brazil. 'We will be back,' Bonmatí said. 'There will be a World Cup in a couple of years, and that's our goal now. This is a golden generation, with a lot of young players.'

Why Did Inter Miami Sign Rodrigo de Paul? David Beckham Explains
Last Updated: David Beckham has lauded Rodrigo de Paul as a leader and key addition to Inter Miami. Former England footballer and Inter Miami owner David Beckham has said that Argentina midfielder Rodrigo de Paul is a player that he has admired for a long time and as a leader, he has contributed well to the teams he has played for, and hence, he brought him into Inter Miami. Speaking to the media on Saturday, July 26, Beckham opened up on De Paul's move to Inter Miami, saying that he would be a crucial footballer for the team. Miami, meanwhile, used the pre-game festivities to unveil new star signing De Paul, Lionel Messi's World Cup-winning Argentina team-mate. 'He brings experience, passion and quality to the team. Rodrigo is a player I've admired for many years. As a leader, he's contributed greatly to the teams he's played for, especially his national team, Argentina," Beckham said. De Paul said that he is keen on competing for trophies, acknowledging that the Inter Miami management was building a special side. 'What brings me to Inter Miami is the desire to compete, win titles, to write the pages in the club's history. It's a club that is shaping up to be great, to have a long history, so that many people follow this incredible team," De Paul said. The 31-year-old left Atlético Madrid, where he's played for the last four years, for Major League Soccer on a short-term contract with Inter Miami that could lead to a multiyear deal. De Paul and national team buddy Messi hope to continue to elevate Inter Miami, which has reached historic heights since Messi arrived two years ago. The Herons reached the knockouts of the Club World Cup and have won their past five Major Soccer League games as they eye a second straight Supporters' Shield. The deal, which has been in the works for multiple weeks, comes as negotiations between Messi and Inter Miami on a contract extension remain ongoing. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Defending Champions England Beat Spain On Penalties To Win Women's Euro 2025
Chloe Kelly converted the decisive kick as England beat Spain 3-1 on penalties to lift the Women's Euro 2025 trophy after Sunday's game had finished 1-1 at the end of extra time, allowing the Lionesses to avenge their defeat in the World Cup final two years ago and retain their continental crown. It looked as though Spain would repeat their victory over England in Sydney in 2023 as they dominated the game at St Jakob-Park in Basel and led through Mariona Caldentey's first-half header. But England did not panic, having already trailed against both Sweden in the quarter-finals and Italy in the semis before finding a way to win. Alessia Russo headed in their equaliser just before the hour mark, and no further goals meant a shoot-out in which Kelly -- who once again had a huge impact off the bench -- netted the winner. "I was cool, I was composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net," Kelly told the BBC of her penalty. It was an agonising way to lose for Spain, but they failed to score three of their spot-kicks, with reigning Ballon d'Or Aitana Bonmati seeing her effort saved. Sarina Wiegman's England are therefore back-to-back European champions, three years after they defeated Germany in extra time at Wembley to win a first women's major tournament. "What a team. What a game. What drama. You dug deep when it mattered most and you've made the nation proud. History makers," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who was at the match, wrote on X. Defeating Spain helps make up for the pain of losing the World Cup final in 2023, and England's victory also confirms Wiegman's place among the coaching greats. She has now won three consecutive European Championships, having led her native Netherlands to victory in 2017 before doing the same with England three years ago. "We said we can win by any means and that's what we have shown again today. I am so proud of the team and the staff. It is incredible," said Wiegman, whose team lost to France in their first match at the tournament. "Losing your first game and becoming European champions is incredible," she added. Spain fell short in their quest to add a maiden European Championship title to the World Cup they won in Australia. La Roja dominated possession as expected, but ultimately paid the price for not killing the game against an England side who never know when they are beaten. "I am in shock," Bonmati told broadcaster TVE before apologising for failing from the spot. "Football is cruel. Everything seems bad right now, but I think we played the best football during the tournament." English resilience England, meanwhile, had been 2-0 down against Sweden in the last eight before scoring twice to force extra time as they eventually won on penalties. Then substitute Michelle Agyemang's 96th-minute equaliser denied Italy in the semi-finals, when Kelly netted the extra-time winner. Wiegman took a gamble here on the fitness of Lauren James which paid off, albeit not quite as planned -- having come off with an ankle injury against Italy, the Chelsea winger did not last until half-time and was replaced by Kelly. By that point Spain were in front, scoring when Ona Battle crossed from the right for Caldentey to head in. They had already been in control before that and it felt like England's best hope was for complacency from their opponents. The best example of that came with the game still goalless, when Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll played a careless short pass to Laia Aleixandri in her own area. Lauren Hemp was alive to the opportunity and pounced, but Coll made the save. Yet even at 1-0 England were still in the game, and they took their chance in the 57th minute when Kelly crossed from the left for Russo to level. England -- with more fans on their side in the crowd of 34,203 -- sensed yet another comeback win was on the cards, and it took Coll's fingertips to keep out a Kelly effort midway. The game continued into extra time, and from there to the gripping tension of penalties, in which Beth Mead's first kick for England was saved after she was forced to retake. Captain Leah Williamson also had her effort stopped by Coll, but Alex Greenwood and Niamh Charles both scored, while Patri Guijarro was the only successful taker for Spain before Kelly won it.
