Baywatch Hawaii theme co-writer and island reggae artist, George "Fiji" Veikoso, dies aged 55
Born in Fiji in May 1970, Veikoso moved to Hawaii in 1987 following the coup d'état in Fiji. His first album was released in 1994, and he later co-wrote the theme tune for Baywatch Hawaii, which filmed on the islands between 1999 and 2001.
Veikoso also appeared in the 2002 film Blue Crush, which starred Kate Bosworth, Sanoe Lake, and Michelle Rodriguez.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday by the Polynesian Music Network, which announced the news 'with heavy hearts'.
A statement shared on Facebook said, 'He was a movement, a voice for the people, a light in the dark. There was, and always will be, only one Fiji. His music wasn't just something we listened to.'
Fans paid tribute online, with one writing, 'The whole Pasifika is mourning for you. The king, the G.O.A.T of island reggae music.'
Music producer Damon Elliott described Veikoso as his 'best friend and big brother', sharing, 'He believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. He showed me nothing but kindness and love beyond I can't believe it. I love you Fiji more than words.'
Veikoso, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Polynesian reggae in 2021, had recently promoted the 2025 Homecoming concert scheduled in Fiji for September.

Jason Momoa turned 46 on August 1, and his girlfriend, actress Adria Arjona, marked the occasion with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. Arjona, 33, shared a romantic message along with a series of photos capturing the couple enjoying time together — riding motorcycles, walking in nature, and embracing on the beach. "Happy birthday mi amor," Arjona wrote. "There's nothing I love more than doing life by your side. So here's to one more year of being wild and free and to forever growing young. Love you so much babii." The Hit Man star also praised Momoa's latest project, the Apple TV+ historical drama Chief of War, which premiered the same day. "Excited for the world to watch what you've poured your heart and soul into for the past years," she added. Fans responded warmly to the post, calling the couple 'beautiful' and praising their chemistry. Momoa himself commented, 'Te amo mi amor. Luckiest man alive.' The couple made their relationship public in May 2024 when Momoa shared photos of them together during a trip to Japan. Since then, they've frequently appeared in affectionate posts on social media. Chief of War, a nine-part series starring and co-created by Momoa, focuses on true events in Polynesian history and features a predominantly Polynesian cast. The first two episodes are now streaming, with new episodes released weekly. Adding to the buzz, Momoa recently shaved his iconic beard for the first time in over six years, ahead of filming Dune: Part Three. In a video shared online, he dedicated the transformation to director Denis Villeneuve. Momoa was previously married to actress Lisa Bonet, with whom he shares two children. Bonet filed for divorce in early 2024, officially ending their marriage.

Jeremy Strong in talks to play Zuckerberg in The Social Network Part II
Jeremy Strong is emerging as the front-runner to play Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network Part II, Deadline has learned. While no official offer has been made, sources confirm that Strong is currently the top choice for the role in the upcoming Sony project. This potential casting follows Deadline's earlier report that The Bear star Jeremy Allen White and actress Mikey Madison are also in talks for key roles, with White likely portraying Wall Street Journal journalist Jeff Horowitz and Madison as the whistleblower behind the explosive Facebook Files series. The film, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, is being developed as a spiritual successor—not a direct sequel—to 2010's The Social Network, which earned Sorkin an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Jesse Eisenberg previously portrayed Zuckerberg in the original film and received an Oscar nomination for his performance. This new installment will center around the WSJ's 2021 investigative series The Facebook Files, which revealed disturbing internal practices and ethical concerns within the tech giant. Sorkin reportedly spent years exploring possible angles before settling on this narrative, which focuses on the darker consequences of Facebook's global reach. Produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Stuart Besser, and Sorkin himself, The Social Network Part II aims to offer a sobering look into the social, political, and psychological fallout of Meta's influence. Strong is represented by WME and Range Media Partners.
