Six-year deal between WTA Ventures and Tennis Channel brings increased investment and exposure for women's tennis

Business Wire25-06-2025
ST PETERSBURG, Fla. & LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WTA Ventures and Tennis Channel have agreed to a new six-year media rights deal ensuring that Tennis Channel platforms will continue to be the exclusive home of WTA tennis in the United States through 2032.
As a result of the significant new commitment, the drama and entertainment of the Hologic WTA Tour will be available to tennis fans across the United States through Tennis Channel, its streaming network TennisChannel 2, its app and website TennisChannel.com. The deal covers all WTA 1000, 500 and 250 events (except tournaments in the United States) through to the season-closing WTA Finals where the world's best singles players and doubles teams battle to be crowned as year-end champions. (The network covers women's events in the United States through other rights contracts.)
Following the new agreement, WTA Ventures and Tennis Channel will work together to continue to enhance and innovate coverage of women's tennis, engaging fans and promoting the game to new audiences. These combined efforts will build on the launch of the WTA's bold new brand identity and the strong growth of women's tennis in the United States, where live WTA viewership on Tennis Channel continues to grow in 2025 on top of the prior increase in 2024. This positive trend includes spectacular growth among younger audiences, with live WTA viewership among 18-34s up annually since 2023.
With four U.S. players currently in the top 10 of the PIF WTA Singles Rankings, including 2024 WTA Finals Riyadh champion Coco Gauff, the profile of women's tennis has benefited from Tennis Channel's Women's Day programming since June 2024, with every Tuesday dedicated exclusively to women's competition on TennisChannel 2, which is widely available throughout the United States for free. Under the new deal, Tennis Channel will continue to broaden exposure and ensure parity of coverage between the women's and men's tours, as well as increase distribution as part of its strategic growth and expansion across digital and streaming platforms, led by its new Chairman and CEO Jeff Blackburn.
Marina Storti, CEO of WTA Ventures, said: 'The U.S. is a hugely significant market for the WTA and we are excited to be partnering with Tennis Channel to bring six more seasons of brilliant tennis to fans across all its platforms. Tennis Channel has shown a strong commitment to the WTA through this agreement, and we have a shared ambition to continue to deepen audience engagement and grow the impact of women's tennis. By securing a multi-year investment from a valued strategic partner, this deal is a significant milestone for WTA Ventures as we continue to execute our strategy to achieve a step change in the commercial value of women's tennis.'
'The WTA has been an important part of Tennis Channel since our first days on air. We couldn't be happier to extend this partnership into the next decade,' said Blackburn. 'Women's tennis is one of the most thrilling products in sports and the tour has never been stronger than it is right now. Tennis Channel looks forward to developing innovative ways to attract and entertain new fans — and to keep building on this momentum with Marina and her team.'
IMG acted as an advisor to WTA Ventures through the deal process.

Sabalenka and Gauff crash out in Cincinnati as Alcaraz survives to reach semis

World number one Aryna Sabalenka and second-ranked Coco Gauff were sent crashing out of the ATP-WTA Cincinnati Open on Friday as Carlos Alcaraz fought off a fierce challenge from Andrey Rublev to reach the semi-finals. Top seed and defending champion Sabalenka had no answer for Elena Rybakina, falling to the 2022 Wimbledon champion 6-1, 6-4. Reigning French Open champion Gauff had 16 double faults in a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 exit at the hands of seventh-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini. Spain's second-ranked Alcaraz had his difficulties, but he broke Rublev in the final game of a tense duel to emerge a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 winner and will face third-seeded Alexander Zverev, who brought fifth-seeded Toronto champion Ben Shelton's run to an end with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Zverev earned a 4-1 lead in the second set as Shelton angrily tossed his racquet on the changeover, and the 2021 champion polished off the win on a second match point. He now has 24 hours to try to get fit. "I'm not feeling too great now, but I have a day to get fresh," Zverev said. "I hope to be at 100%. "I'm not sure what happened. I felt very well, but at the end of the first set, it got progressively worse. But I'll do all I can to give it a shot tomorrow." Alcaraz was broken while serving for victory at 5-4 in the final set against 11th-ranked Rublev, but he found his focus and used his trademark grit to come through three games later. He sealed the triumph as an emotional Rublev hit an eighth double-fault on match point. "I maintained the positive thoughts even if I lost focus a bit in the second set," said Alcaraz, whose five titles so far this year include the French Open as well as Masters 1000 trophies in Monte Carlo and Rome. - Rybakina revenge - Rybakina fired 11 aces en route to a fifth career victory over Sabalenka in 12 meetings. She avenged a loss to the Belarusian in Berlin two months ago and booked a semi-final meeting with Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek -- a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Anna Kalinskaya. Rybakina was aided by 11 aces as she reached her first Cincinnati semi-final. "I'm happy with the serve. It was the key today," Rybakina said. "I served really well." "If she had been serving well, it would have been a totally different match," she acknowledged. Rybakina has won her last three matches against Swiatek, all played this season. But Swiatek was feeling confident after downing Kalinskaya in what she called "the best match I played here." "I'm happy that I'm progressing during the tournament," Swiatek said. Gauff, the 2023 Cincinnati champion, had looked well on her way after a quick first set against Paolini. But her mistakes caught up with her as she was broken eight times by the Italian, who overcame plenty of errors of her own as well as a twisted ankle suffered early in the third set. "It was so tough at the start, I was running and trying to put the ball inside the court," Paolini said. "I started to feel the ball better." "I fought for every point and stayed in the match," added the Italian, who will face Veronika Kudermetova for a place in the final. Kudermetova crushed Varvara Gracheva 6-1, 6-2. str/bb/cwl

Here are the ATP, WTA semifinal matchups at the Cincinnati Open

MASON, OH − There are eight players remaining and two titles up for grabs as the Cincinnati Open moves into its final days. Aug. 16 will feature both ATP semifinals at the Lindner Family Tennis Center with the two WTA semifinals scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 17. More: Cincinnati Open ATP, WTA quarterfinal results The Cincinnati Open finals will be held Monday, Aug. 18. Here's a breakdown of this weekend's semifinals at the Cincinnati Open. ATP: No. 1 Jannik Sinner vs. Terence Atmane It's the ultimate David vs. Goliath in this matchup as Terence Atmane tries to keep his Cinderella Cincinnati run alive against the best player in the world. More: 'I'm gonna learn the rules.' Terence Atmane becoming Reds fan during Cincinnati Open run Beginning in qualifying Aug. 5, Atmane won seven matches in a nine-day span in what he called "the best days of my life." It's surely been a life-changing week for Atmane, who will move into the ATP Top 100 for the first time and has doubled his year-to-date prize money. Can he slay a giant in Jannik Sinner, who has looked unstoppable in Mason? Sinner has yet to drop a set at the Cincinnati Open and is one of five players this century to notch 25 consecutive hard-court wins. Sinner needed just 59 minutes to dispatch Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals to move to 30-3 on the season. Sinner needs two victories to become the first back-to-back Cincinnati Open men's singles winner since Roger Federer (2014-2015). ATP: No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz vs. No. 3 Alexander Zverev Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are chasing the year-end No. 1 ranking and could meet in another final. Alcaraz is one victory away from reaching the Cincinnati Open finals for the second time in three years after losing to Novak Djokovic in an epic 2023 clash. Alcaraz has had spurts of both brilliance and lackluster play thus far in the tournament, but overcome his stagnant second sets in the end, especially against Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz, chasing a sixth title this season, will put his 15-match ATP 1000 winning streak on the line against No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, who needed just 1 hour, 16 minutes to dispatch Canadian Open champion Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals. Zverev is the sixth player since 2000 to reach the Cincinnati Open semifinals four times and knows what it's like to hoist the Rookwood Cup having won it all in 2021. Alcaraz and Zverev have split four career meetings on outdoor hard courts and Zverev holds a 6-5 all-time advantage over the Spaniard. WTA: No. 3 Iga Swiatek vs. No. 9 Elena Rybakina Is this the year Iga Swiatek breaks through at the Cincinnati Open? Swiatek has been bounced from the semifinals of the event in back-to-back years by the eventual champion (Coco Gauff in 2023, Aryna Sabalenka in 2024), and the Cincinnati Open is one of three WTA 1000 events on the calendar she has not reached the finals in. Swiatek has been stellar thus far, winning every set and capturing 36 of 55 total games over four matches thus far. In the quarterfinals, she quickly got past No. 28 seed Anna Kalinskaya, 6-3, 6-4. Swiatek has her toughest test in the semifinals against No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina, who knocked out Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals. Swiatek and Rybakina have met nine times with Swiatek holding a 5-4 advantage. Swiatek has prevailed in the last three on hard courts. WTA: No. 7 Jasmine Paolini vs. Veronika Kudermetova Seeded players were gashed from the top part of this bracket, opening up a nice path on paper for No. 7 Jasmine Paolini or No. 2 Coco Gauff. Paolini and Gauff capped off the night session on Center Court Aug. 15 with the 29-year-old Italian pulling out a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory. Paolini, who is 3-0 against Gauff in 2025, is seeking her third career WTA 1000 title. Up next is Veronika Kudermetova, who has been a giant killer in Mason with three wins over seeded foes before a swift 6-1, 6-2 victory over qualifier Varvara Gracheva in the quarterfinals Aug. 15. Kudermetova is in the semifinals at a WTA 1000 level event for the third time in her career and is still searching for her first title.
