Digital Bharat Nidhi aims to spread broadband connectivity to all GPs, villages
The Minister informed Lok Sabha in a written reply: 'As per RGI (Registrar General of India) data, out of the total 6,44,131 villages in the country, 6,26,055 are having internet facility (3G/4G) through mobile coverage network as on 30.06.2025.'
Highlighting the steps taken for village digitisation, he stated ' BharatNet project is being implemented in a phased manner to provide broadband connectivity to all the Gram Panchayats (GPs) and villages in the country. A total of 13,01,193 no. of FTTH connections have been commissioned in the country through BharatNet.'
'The Wi-Fi technology enabled FTTH connections are being used for accessing all type of online services such as e-education, e-health, e-governance,e-commerce etc including the usage by farmers in increasing their knowledge about agriculture and keeping themselves updated about new developments in agriculture.' the Minister added.
He also highlighted several other projects including 4G saturation projects, Border Out Posts (BoP) and Border Intelligence Posts (BiP) under the umbrella of Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN).
The Minister informed that the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of Department of Telecom (DoT) to proliferate Broadband through public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of Prime Minister's Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PMWANI). UNI SAS SSP

Trump Administration Reviews 55 Million US Visa Holders For Deportation Violations
The State Department said Thursday that it's reviewing the records of more than 55 million foreigners who hold valid U.S. visas for potential revocation or deportable violations of immigration rules. In a written answer to a question posed by The Associated Press, the department said that all U.S. visa holders are subject to "continuous vetting" with an eye toward any indication that they could be ineligible for the document. Should such information be found, the visa will be revoked and, if the visa holder is in the United States, he or she would be subject to deportation. The department said it was looking for indicators of ineligibility, including visa overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization. "We review all available information as part of our vetting, including law enforcement or immigration records or any other information that comes to light after visa issuance indicating a potential ineligibility," the department said. Since President Donald Trump took office in January, his administration has thus far focused on deporting migrants illegally in the United States as well as holders of student and visitor exchange visas. The State Department's new language suggests that the re-vetting process, which officials acknowledge is time-consuming, is far more widespread. The administration has steadily imposed more and more restrictions and requirements on visa applicants, including requiring all visa seekers to submit to in-person interviews. But the review of all visa holders appears to be a significant expansion of what had initially been a re-vetting process focused mainly on students who have been involved in pro-Palestinian or anti-Israel activity. Officials say the reviews will include all the visa holders' social media accounts, law enforcement and immigration records in their home countries, along with any actionable violations of U.S. law committed while they were in the United States. "As part of the Trump Administration's commitment to protect U.S. national security and public safety, since Inauguration Day the State Department has revoked more than twice as many visas, including nearly four times as many student visas, as during the same time period last year," the department said. Earlier this week, the department said that since Trump returned to the White House, it has revoked more than 6,000 student visas for overstays and violations of local, state and federal law, the vast majority of which were assault, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and support for terrorism. It said that about 4,000 of those 6,000 were due to actual infractions of laws and that approximately 200–300 visas were revoked for terrorism-related issues, including providing support for designated terrorist organizations or state sponsors of terrorism.

Action to be taken against those responsible if projects are not completed on time: Deputy CM Shinde
States » West Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) On the directions of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Urban Development Department has introduced several important provisions to ensure that infrastructure projects under the central government's AMRUT Mission as well as the Nagaroththan Mega Mission are completed on time for the benefit of citizens. A government resolution in this regard was also issued today. The GR stated that if the projects are not completed within the stipulated time, responsibility will be fixed on the concerned parties and strict action will be taken, said a press statement issued by office of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This will help accelerate projects under AMRUT 2 and Nagaroththan, bring in greater transparency, and—most importantly—ensure accountability. According to the new provisions, contractors will now be required to submit realistic planning while seeking extensions for project completion. In cases where necessary approvals from agencies like the National Highways Authority, Public Works Department or Forest Department are delayed, a follow-up will be conducted directly at the ministerial level. If the projects are not completed on time, action will be taken against the concerned contractors, project management consultants or implementing officers as per the rules, the release added. Israeli PM slams Australian premier Anthony Albanese for ‘appeasement' of terrorists, calls him a ‘weak leader'
Jerusalem, Aug 21 (UNI) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, attacking his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese for his decision to formally recognise Palestine, slammed Canberra's 'appeasement' of terror groups and their supporters in the West. Vowing to continue with the military offensive launched in Gaza, the Israeli premier maintained that he will press on with the current course of action, and occupy Gaza militarily, regardless of whether Hamas surrenders or agrees to release hostages, reports Times Of Israel. 'We're going to do that anyway. That there was never a question that we're not going to leave Hamas there,' he said, adding that the war 'could end today' if the terror group 'lays down its arms and releases the remaining 50 hostages, at least 20 of which are alive.' 'I'm sure he has a reputable record as a public servant, but I think his record is forever tarnished by the weakness that he showed in the face of these Hamas terrorist monsters,' Netanyahu said of Albanese in an interview with Sky News Australia. 'When the worst terrorist organisation on earth, these savages who murdered women, raped them, beheaded men… when these people congratulate the prime minister of Australia, you know something is wrong.' Netanyahu upped his war of words, stating that the Australian action of recognising Palestine was a betrayal of its ties with Jerusalem, calling Albanese 'a weak politician' on his X on Tuesday. Responding to this on Wednesday, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke retorted that the concept of strength was beyond than simply 'how many people you can blow up or how many children you can leave hungry.' Netanyahu claimed that Israel is 'on the verge of completing this war,' echoing his earlier statements on the war ending. The Israeli premier has been making the same claim since February 2024, first arguing that conquering the southern Gaza city of Rafah would end the intense fighting within weeks, and later claiming in April the very same year that victory in the war was 'a step away.' The Israeli PM's actions to conquer the entire strip – of which it already controls over 75%- has been heavily condemned internationally, and has not been met with unanimous approval either, finding detractors in both the IDF and the political opposition. However, that has barely deterred the premier from his course of action, who labelled Gaza as the home of Hamas, and said that its conquest was imperative to ending the 22-month-long war, comparing it to the Allied Forces' conquest of Berlin.
