DPMs Ahmad Zahid and Fadillah extend Teachers' Day greetings
KUALA LUMPUR: The two Deputy Prime Ministers took to social media to extend their Teachers' Day greetings today, expressing appreciation and gratitude to all educators in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasised that every success achieved today cannot be separated from the contributions of teachers who patiently guided students from the early stages of learning and instilled understanding of life's values.
'They are noble individuals who tirelessly impart knowledge and shape the character of future generations.
'I believe the strength of our national education system lies not only in policies and frameworks, but also in the dedication of teachers who educate with heart, guide with compassion, and build the future of our nation's children with sincerity,' said Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, in a Facebook post.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof also extended his gratitude to educators who, without complaint, have sacrificed time and energy in fulfilling the noble duty of educating the nation's youth.
Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said this year's Teachers' Day theme, 'Teachers Driving Education Reform', highlights the strategic role of teachers as key movers in the transformation of the education system.
'Teachers are not merely transmitters of knowledge, but agents of change who shape policy, pedagogy, and learning culture towards a more progressive direction. Deepest appreciation goes to our teachers for their commitment, sincerity, dedication and excellence in guiding students to become outstanding, virtuous individuals and proud citizens of the nation.
'Thank you to every individual called 'teacher'. May you continue to serve the nation and its people. Your contributions will always be remembered,' he said in his Facebook post, which also featured several verses from a poem by Ghazali Lateh.
The national-level 54th Teachers' Day celebration for 2025 is being held in Kuching.

GRS fully prepared for state election, says Hajiji

(Bernama pic) TUARAN : Gabungan Rakyat Sabah is fully prepared to face the upcoming state election, said its chairman, Hajiji Noor. Hajiji, who is also the chief minister, said GRS has conducted a series of training sessions across constituencies to strengthen the coalition's election machinery ahead of the polls. 'Clearly, GRS is ready. We have established our election machinery and conducted several rounds of training in preparation (for the election). 'However, discussions on seat allocations have yet to take place,' he told reporters after officiating the Aidiladha sacrificial ritual at the Tuaran police headquarters today. The state legislative assembly will automatically dissolve on Nov 11, ending its five-year term beginning on Nov 12, 2020, paving the way for the 17th state election. On cooperation with Barisan Nasional for the polls, Hajiji said GRS remains open to discussions with the party's leaders. 'The last time I met the BN chairman (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) was before the fasting month. While political matters were discussed, there have been no further talks on collaboration or related issues since then. 'There is no issue with meeting (BN). I have great respect for all friends, especially the BN chairman, and we are very open on this matter,' he said. However, he said any party-related matters, including the state election and potential cooperation with other parties, must first be discussed with the GRS Supreme Council before any decisions are made.

Malaysia, Brunei deepen ties with joint disaster response and cross-border security initiatives, says DPM Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — Malaysia and Brunei continue to strengthen their commitment to expanding regional cooperation in disaster preparedness and cross-border security, in addition to enhancing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In a Facebook post today, Ahmad Zahid said the commitment was expressed during a bilateral meeting with Brunei's Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Setia Awang Ahmaddin Abdul Rahman, on the sidelines of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2025 in Geneva. He expressed appreciation for Brunei's readiness to continue joint training between the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) and Brunei's National Disaster Management Centre, including knowledge transfer programmes and training based on best practices. 'We also agreed to intensify joint exercises and field training, including rescue operations and emergency simulations, which were recently conducted. 'These trainings not only foster trust between agencies but are also essential in coordinating operating procedures in the event of cross-border disasters,' he said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said Malaysia and Brunei had proven that close neighbourly ties, combined with strong commitment, could build more robust regional cooperation in disaster and security matters. KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — The celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha is a great symbol that teaches the meaning of obedience, sacrifice and sincerity to the commands of Allah SWT, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In a Facebook post, Ahmad Zahid said the celebration highlights the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son, Prophet Ismail (AS), two individuals who are symbols of unwavering obedience and sacrifice to Allah SWT. 'May the spirit of sacrifice continue to be a guiding principle in every aspect of our struggle, whether in the family, society and also in developing this beloved country,' he said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, prayed that Aidiladha would bring peace and blessings to all Malaysians, especially those facing various life challenges.
