ITC Hotels hopes to go beyond own target, have 220 hotels by '30
1 2 Kolkata: ITC Hotels chairman Sanjiv Puri said on Monday that the company aimed to have a portfolio of 220 operational hotels with over 20,000 keys by 2030. He was speaking to shareholders at the first AGM after the demerger of ITC Hotels. The company had earlier set a target of 200 properties by 2030. "The company is looking at all opportunities, either through its investments or through management contracts. As far as the roadmap is concerned, what we said when the listing happened was that by 2030, we will have 200 hotels. As we stand today, we believe that this will be easily surpassed and will be 220," he said. Currently, the company has 140 hotels. The hotel business of the diversified conglomerate ITC Ltd was demerged into ITC Hotels Ltd with effect from Jan 1, 2025. The equity shares of the company were listed on the NSE and BSE on Jan 29. He said the travel, tourism, and hospitality sector in India is riding a wave of resurgence, with a record Rs 3.1 trillion international visitor spending in 2024. Domestic travel spending reached Rs 15.5 trillion, which is 22% above 2019 levels. "Your company signed 30 management and franchise contracts last year, contributing to a healthy pipeline of 58 hotels with over 5,300 keys and is well on the way to crossing our target of 200 hotels by 2030," Puri said. State nod to two more supercritical power plants
1 2 Kolkata: State cabinet on Monday approved the setting up of two supercritical power plants in Salboni, which would attract an investment of over Rs 10,000 crore. "There would be two new 800 MW plants at Salboni in Jhargram," said state power minister Aroop Biswas after the cabinet meeting. The units would be operated on PPP model. JSW Group was already setting up two 800 MW supercritical power plants, the minister added. Biswas said that work for the Sagardighi 660 MW supercritical plant was also on. "These plants are being planned as industrial demand is on the rise, and customers of the power sector are also increasing. The plans were made so that there is no crisis in power. During Left Front's stay in office, people had to suffer a lot from loadshedding." Property owners slam Bengaluru's civic officials for issuing penalties but not updating e-khata
Bengaluru: After slapping thousands of e-khata holders with penalty notices over what it claimed to be under-declared parking space in property tax filings, BBMP has dropped another bombshell — even if you cough up penalty, it won't update property dimensions in the e-khata. Furious property owners are calling it daylight robbery. "First, they accuse us of under-declaring parking space. Now, when we agree to pay the penalty they demand, they refuse to make corrections. If nothing changes, why are we paying?" ask property owners. Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar's silence has baffled them too since he holds Bengaluru development portfolio. The issue could create new flashpoints in the city's apartment complexes. In several complexes, residents own more than one parking lot but pay the same maintenance charges. If BBMP's notices start formalising higher declared parking areas for some and not others, this could trigger disputes over who owes more to the resident welfare association (RWA), according to Anwar K from central business district. "We've already had squabbles over parking slots. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like We Have No Words For Dog The Bounty Hunter's Transformation Cash Roadster Undo Now, if BBMP puts on record that someone has more space but doesn't correct e-khata, the ambiguity will only create resentment. Those with fewer parking slots will start demanding that owners of multiple slots pay more, and vice-versa," Nair told TOI. Some property owners are questioning the legal validity of penalising citizens without rectifying records that the penalty is supposedly addressing. "If BBMP is claiming my property is larger than what I declared, then updating e-khata is the logical outcome. By refusing to do so, they are essentially collecting money without giving anything in return," said Shashidhar Iyer, a retired bank employee from Jayanagar. Vinay R, a flat owner on Old Airport Road, said, "As a senior citizen, it is exhausting for me to go through so much hassle just to get paperwork issues sorted. If I pay penalty, my parking space might have increased on paper, but not in reality. Who am I supposed to check with?" Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
