Edinburgh Olympian Sir Chris Hoy had to change hotel rooms in the early hours of the morning after receiving a rude awakening.
The Team GB icon had to leave his hotel room in Nürburg at 4am after a person in the room above left the bath running. Cyclist Sir Chris travelled to the town in western Germany, home to the legendary Nürburgring circuit, for the Ring Driver's Convention.
Sir Chris previously took up motor-racing after retiring from cycling in 2013. The Ring Drivers' Convention was held at the world-famous Nürburgring on Friday, with Sir Chris jumping into a Porsche 992 GT3 RS alongside former Top Gear host Chris Harris, reports the Mirror.
The former Olympian shared a selfie of them both on social media, captioning it: "First time on the @nuerburgring, what a flippin' place. Thought I'd jump in for a passenger lap with this guy in his 992 GT3 RS to learn the lines. Says he knows what he's doing…"
Sir Chris stayed overnight Germany on Friday, May 2, at a hotel. But he was in for a rude awakening at 4am on Saturday morning when he was forced to pack up and move.
The 49-year-old revealed his ordeal on Instagram, posting a video showing water pouring from the light fixture and pooling on the bathroom floor. The water was from the room above Sir Chris, with that guest having left their bath running.
A frustrated Sir Chris wrote: "Big shoutout to the person who left their bath running upstairs and caused me to have to move rooms at 4am."
This latest ordeal comes after Sir Chris announced in February last year that he was battling prostate cancer. A tumour was found in his shoulder, and a scan later found the primary cancer in his prostate.
It has since metastasised to his bones - including his pelvis, ribs and spine. The cancer is terminal, with the Olympic hero being given two to four years to live.
Sir Chris issued an update on his treatment last month, admitting that the diagnosis had 'hit him hard'. But the Scot insisted that he was attempting to take a positive outlook.
"When you get given a stage four diagnosis, it's hard to describe how it hits you and how much of a shock it is," he said. "It takes away all the hope, because if you've got stage one, two or three there's always hope that actually you can beat this.
"I thought: 'I'd like to do something that reflects how I'm feeling right now, that, actually, life goes on.' Actually, a lot of people are living with stage four. I've been able to get fitter in the last 18 months; post-chemo I've been able to improve.
" Cancer has taught me to try to not worry about the future. When you feel fear or stress, it's all about trying to predict the future, and you may be wasting time worrying about the wrong thing entirely and it's only going to spoil your life at the moment."

Holidaymakers branded 'mad' as they race to secure sunbed at Spanish hotel

The hilarious scenes, captured by one tourist, shows Brits queueing and sprinting to get their towel on a lounger after queuing for an hour Holidays are supposed to be relaxing - but there's one thing that's sure to stress you out on your well-earned break. Sunbed wars are a very real part of the holiday experience for thousands of tourists as the battle for a lounger begins very early in the morning in some resorts. And British holidaymakers have been dubbed 'towel warriors' after a comical video was posted showing the race for a prime spot around the pool at one Mallorca hotel. The footage was captured by Aaron Turner, 34 while he was on holiday with his fiancée Shauna Wall, 32, and their four-year-old daughter Halle. ‌ Aaron filmed the scenes at the Hotel Sol Barbados, Magaluf which saw holidaymakers queueing up, poised to be ready to sprint to the sunbeds as soon as the pool areas was opened, reports the Mirror. ‌ And Aaron, a full time content creator from Country Meath, Ireland said, every morning, they were waiting for a full hour before the opening time in anticipation of securing the best spot for the day. The video, posted to Instagram, shows sun-seekers ready and waiting at three entrances to the hotel's pool, despite their appearing to be plenty of loungers laid out. He said: "The queues would get pretty long. Once the barriers opened, all the rules went - people were jumping the queue, and some were properly running," he said. And he also highlighted the surplus of sunbeds yet pointed out that everyone was after the most coveted spots. Finding amusement in the situation, Aaron added: "I thought it was hilarious, I've seen videos of it online before but it was the first time I experienced it myself. We got a good laugh out of it." ‌ Captioning his funny video 'Sunbed races should be an Olympic sport', it shows him pretending to stretch his legs as a warm up before getting ready to join the race. Aaron's followers were quick to comment on the ludicrousness of the situation. One said: "Or you can do what I do go have breakfast and nice relaxing morning then just walk in and throw the towels off the beds I want because you can't save sun loungers." ‌ Another laughed: 'Man, this is madness'. Sunbed wars are a long-standing, long-drawn-out battle that typically marks the start of the summer. Earlier this week, the Mirror reported how a group of irate holidaymakers thwarted a cunning plan by fellow Brits to bag sun beds seven hours before their hotel pool opened on a recent Spain holiday. ‌ While having a late-night chinwag on their balcony, Mandy Boyd spotted some lads she thought were having a cheeky swim in the pool. But upon closer inspection, the 34-year-old realised the young men were trying to nab the best beds at 2am, despite the fact that the pool wasn't due to open until 9am the next day. ‌ The quartet of girls watched as the lads dragged out their sun loungers to try and secure prime spots. Mandy and her mates patiently waited on the balcony for the perfect moment to dash down and swipe the towels. The comical sun bed wars sabotage took place around 2am at the Aquasol Aparthotel, Palmanova, near Magaluf, Spain. Joined by her mate, Sally Willows, the pair dashed down to the pool and swiftly grabbed the towels. "We're just doing the Lord's work," Mandy from Bridgend, South Wales, said. "I can't stand it when people reserve sunbeds and don't use them all day. "I find it really inconsiderate. It was shocking to see them reserving beds at 2am, especially when there was no chance of those lads being up to enjoy them. We kept the towels, but made sure we left them where they would find them."

Georgia Harrison lands MBE while ex Stephen Bear moves to Brazil with teen girlfriend

Love Island star Georgia Harrison is set to be awarded an MBE as part of the King's Birthday Honours list next week for her campaigning efforts tacking violence against women Georgia Harrison has made history as the first Love Islander to be awarded an MBE for her campaigning on violence against women and girls. The reality TV star, 30, has reportedly made the King's Birthday Honours list and will officially receive her title next week. She is being recognised for her work to raise awareness of revenge porn and the issues surrounding consent as well as online safety. Georgia, who is pregnant with her first child, started her campaign when Stephen Bear shared explicit footage of her online without her consent and without her being aware she was filmed. ‌ Following the harrowing incident, Georgia bravely waived her right to anonymity in a bid to help others who might be going through something similar. ‌ Bear was jailed for 21 months in March 2023 after being found guilty of voyeurism by a majority verdict and guilty to two counts of disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress by a unanimous verdict by a jury. During the sentencing, Bear, 35, was given a restraining order and told not to contact Georgia for five years and was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register. Speaking in court, Georgia said that she felt 'violated' as she recalled the extent of the impact that the footage being published without her consent had on her life. 'I had to live in fear that this was going to come out and my family were going to know about it. It was just like the worst feeling you can ever possibly imagine. I felt violated, I felt embarrassed - I hated myself for a really long time,' she said. Bear, famed for his appearances on Celebrity Big Brother and Ex on the Beach, was released in January 2024 after serving just half his time in prison. In March 2024, he was ordered to pay £22,305, which would be given to HM Treasury and distributed to police charities, and was also ordered to pay £5,000 in compensation to Georgia for emotional and financial distress. ‌ Last year, Georgia released her memoir Taking Back My Power: Our Bodies. Our Consent in which she reflected on her nightmare. 'It's a hard read,' she admitted to the Mirror. 'There was a lot of traumatic things that happened to me very close together, but I hope that people can be inspired and hope I can truly help people going through hard times to navigate their journey and to have a bit of faith that it's not the end and there are tools to get through those moments. And once you do there's always something on the other side.' Following the news of Georgia's MBE recognition, a source told Daily Mail: "Georgia is incredibly proud to receive such an honour. She has been campaigning and working hard for many years now, to be recognised for her efforts means everything to her. ‌ "Georgia will continue to raise awareness, hopefully this will be the beginning of more improvements for women and girls and their fight for online safety." Shamed Bear now lives a very different life and a week after his prison release, he claimed he had 'no money' and 'cried himself to sleep' as he slept in his parents' spare room. In August 2023, it was reported that Bear put his three-bed Essex home on the market for £525,000. ‌ Although Bear attempted to present an image of wealth during his trial, the Rolls Royce he drove to court case was revealed to be rented, while his opulent-looking Rolex watches were found to be fake. In September 2023, Bear's loyal fiancée Jessica Smith had ditched him having previously vowed to stick by Bear's side. Jessica, who has since welcomed her first child, underwent laser treatment to have her tattoo tributes to Bear removed, which included an engagement ring tat and the name 'Stephen' inked across her arm. In January this year, Bear taunted the police as he posted a video from Brazil with his new 18-year-old girlfriend. "The police can't catch me now," Bear bragged. "Life's good. I thought I'd come on here guys and say I love you all, simple as that. I love you all. Stay true, because this year I'm fully active, I'm off licence. The police, they could still be after me, but I'm in Brazil. They can't catch me now. Catch me if you can." Bear continued: "I'm in Brazil, I don't know if you've heard. This is my 18-year-old Latina girlfriend, say hello baby. We just chilling, I got eight music videos I got to shoot while I'm in Brazil. Thinking of looking at some property while I'm over here." King Charles' startling question to David Beckham two weeks before knighthood

Football icon David Beckham's long wait for a knighthood is finally over and it seemed he knew for some time as King Charles asked a very cryptic question last month David Beckham's wishes have finally come true as King Charles is making him a Sir in his Birthday Honours. After years of waiting and trying, the former England footballer, 50, will soon be able to add the title to his name. He was bypassed for a knighthood by the late Queen for decades, sparking much speculation over the years as to why he hadn't picked up the title. Year after year, David had been notably absent from the honours list. ‌ In 2013, it seemed his chances were dashed when explosive emails were leaked where he reportedly lashed out at the Honours Committee for not including him, referring to them as "unappreciative c***s." ‌ However, the tables have finally turned for David and he will finally get his honour next week. It seems he knew about the move for a while as King Charles ' cryptic comment to David now makes sense. The pair met each other at the Chelsea Flower Show last month alongside Queen Camilla, where a huge hint was dropped. During their meeting, King Charles asked: 'You got it, didn't you?' David replied: 'It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.' Ex-royal butler Paul Burrell said last year that David shouldn't hold his breath for a knighthood citing three key reasons. Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Paul explained: "We haven't seen [ David Beckham knighted] yet because A, he's not old enough and B, he hasn't earned his stripes yet and C, he's still in a very commercial world." Paul added: "He's obviously been fast tracked for a knighthood, but not just yet and they're keeping him just dangling for a while. Because, you know, they're waiting to see what happens. "I think he is an excellent ambassador, not only for charitable foundations, but for our country. I think he's shown his worth, and I'm expecting it. Of course it's going to happen. The question is, when." ‌ He explained it was all just a matter of time for David and shared: "When will the King finally say it's time for David to receive his knighthood? I think he has to put some more work into the King's Trust, and I think he'll be seen many more times with the King and William before that honour comes his way." It seems Paul was completely right as just a little time later, David has now secured the elusive title. David's representative slammed the 2013 email reports, accusing them of being misleading and based on manipulated content. At the time, it was claimed he was particularly incensed by opera singer Katherine Jenkins receiving an honour, allegedly retorting: "Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops. F****** joke." A close pal of Beckham later spoke to the Mirror about the incident, revealing that although David regretted the messages, they were sent "in the heat of the moment". The friend said: "Genuinely, he wasn't as vitriolic as that, but you do say some things in private and in the heat of the moment. "To be honest, he does feel that he has given so much to his country. And sometimes you say things in private that anyone would say and you don't really mean it. While he was frustrated in those emails, he was over it the moment he sent them. Getting the knighthood is not what his work is about. He doesn't care if he gets a knighthood or not."
