DPS identifies victim in crash on SH 158
MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the victim killed in a crash Monday on State Highway 158 as 54-year-old Cameron C Cook, of Odessa.
Around noon on June 9, troopers responded to the area of SH 158 and County Road 1110 and found two vehicles, a Dodge Ram and a Freightliner with a trailer involved in a serious collision; traffic in the area was diverted for hours amid the ongoing investigation. According to a crash report, Cook was traveling westbound on SH 158 near CR 1110 in the left lane; meanwhile, a Freightliner with trailer was also traveling westbound on SH 158 in the left lane and was stopped, waiting to make a left hand turn into a private drive. Investigators said Cook failed to control his speed and rear-ended the trailer.
Cook, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner, identified as 60-year-old Romero Porfirio, of Stanton, New Mexico, was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.

Midland man arrested for allegedly using truck to hit wife during domestic dispute
MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A Midland man is facing a felony charge after police say he intentionally struck his wife with a vehicle during an argument Saturday morning. 61-year-old Ralph Allan Olson was arrested on June 7 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. His bond was set at $75,000. As of Monday, Olson remained in custody at the Midland County Detention Center. No attorney was listed for him in court records. According to an arrest affidavit, Midland Police responded to a call just after 9 a.m., near Holloway Drive, for a reported accident involving a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found the victim, identified as Olson's wife, with visible scrapes and bruises on both knees and her left arm. Olson allegedly told officers that he and his wife had been in a verbal argument earlier that morning. He said he left the home but returned a short time later and saw her walking near the curb. Olson admitted he 'sped by out of spite' following the argument and struck her with his brown Ford F-150 on the passenger side of the vehicle. The victim confirmed the couple had been arguing and said she was walking along the curb when she noticed Olson's truck approaching. She told officers she was struck by the passenger-side hood and mirror, which knocked her to the ground. Despite her injuries, she initially told police she did not want to pursue charges. However, officers reviewed security footage from a nearby residence, which reportedly showed Olson driving at a high rate of speed through the residential neighborhood and making no attempt to avoid hitting the woman until after the impact. The video also showed that the victim was walking near the curb and not obstructing the roadway. Several witnesses told police that Olson did not immediately return to the scene after the collision. Due to the totality of the evidence, including Olson's admission, video footage, and eyewitness accounts, he was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Driver killed in tractor-trailer rollover in Genesee County
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The driver of a tractor-trailer is dead after the vehicle rolled over in the town of Elba Wednesday morning, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the area just after 11 a.m. on Arnold Road. Deputies said they found the vehicle rolled over in a ditch, and the victim was trapped inside. Fire departments worked with deputies and other crews on scene to get the victim out. Investigators said a 2015 Freightliner was hauling liquid manure was driving south on Arnold Road when it was negotiating a left curve in the roadway. The tractor trailer rolled and eventually landed on its roof. The driver — 62-year-old Joseph Merica of LeRoy was pronounced dead on scene. The primary cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police: Suspect tracked obituaries, stole from dead St. Louis County residents
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A suspect tracked obituaries of multiple St. Louis County residents who recently died, then broke into their homes to steal jewelry, weapons and other high-priced items, police say. The suspect allegedly left his own debit card behind at one home, eventually linking him to multiple burglaries. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Brandon Welch, 33, of St. Louis, with second-degree burglary and two counts of stealing. Homicide investigation underway in north St. Louis County The burglary leading to Welch's charges occurred on May 6, 2024 in the 2600 block of Blackforest Drive in south St. Louis County. According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Welch acted with another person to steal a Lowes credit card, jewelry and a firearm from the home. Investigators say Welch left behind his own debit card at the scene, along with a card belonging to the victim of another apparent burglary. While investigating, police learned that a neighbor's surveillance camera captured a Dodge Ram at the scene for nearly four hours, which later linked Welch to the crime. After the burglary, the victim's Lowe's card was used to purchase more than $3,000 of merchandise for pickups. A driver in a Dodge Ram later arrived at the Lowe's location to retrieve items, but the store had been alerted to possible fraud and ultimately stopped the transaction. That's when Welch allegedly called Lowe's twice in an attempt to complete the pickup. Investigators then began tracking his phone activity, which revealed unusual patterns. Subscribe Now According to court documents, Welch's Gmail account showed that he search for obituaries in the St. Louis region, along with directions for at least two homes of deceased victims. Welch's Gmail account captured an IP address activity that linked his location to Black Forest Drive on the day of the burglary. Phone logs determined Welch made 15 calls to a specific phone number shortly before the Dodge Ram pulled up to the victim's home. Authorities issued a warrant for Welch's arrest on Tuesday, per Missouri court records. It's unclear if any additional suspects are facing or could face charges in this case.
