Arlington Democrats host town hall to provide guidance to fired federal workers
ARLINGTON, Va. () — Some fired federal workers found their way into an Arlington library, where the Arlington Democrats hosted a town hall to provide answers and advice.
Arlington Dems requested that attendees were not shown on-camera, as some did not want to be identified for fear of retribution. Inside the auditorium, upwards of 100 people – a mix of politicians, advocates and federal workers – both current and former. They spent the evening listening to industry experts about their rights, potential next steps and available resources.
'So they know how to fight back,' said panelist Alissa Tafti, who is the president of her federal employee union. '[We want to tell them] where are the cases that they can get involved so that they can be part of these actions.'

Among the questions attendees asked were what's going on in the courts, and what documents fired federal workers should be holding on to.
'This is a popular uprising of regular people who aren't used to this kind of thing, but see the necessity for it,' said Chris Dols, a federal worker. 'It's been traumatic. But I've mostly been impressed by how resilient and committed my coworkers are.'
The town hall took place as a new found U.S. employers cut more jobs this February than any other month since July 2020, and the DOGE effect was the biggest reason why – accounting for more than one-third of the roughly 172,000 job cuts.
'We are going to have to address the job loss, the housing crisis that's going to subsequently impact us,' said Sen. Ghazala Hashmi (D-Chesterfield County).
The push to provide fired federal workers with resources will continue on Saturday with a resource fair at noon at Wakefield High School. For more information, click here.

Former Beaufort mayor to receive highest award in S.C.
BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) — A former mayor for the City of Beaufort will be crowned by South Carolina state representative Shannon Erickson with the highest award in South Carolina. Billy Keyserling will receive the Palmetto Award for his dedication to public service for over 50 years. Keyserling has worked on Capitol Hill, was a state legislature, a city councilman, reigned Beaufort for 12 years, and now runs two non-profit organizations. Keyserling told WSAV that he's received many awards in his lifetime, but this is one of the highest honors. 'I'm very excited about it. I'm honored. I'm humbled,' said Keyserling. 'I'm appreciative of Stacy Applegate, who basically, unbeknownst to me, started a campaign to talk to Representative Erickson and got a bunch of letters written by people I've worked with over the last 50 years. And I was selected to do it. So, I'd say honored, humbled and have a lot of gratitude for the people I've worked with over the years.' Keyserling said he chose to have the award presented at city hall, because that's the place he called his second home for many years and did some of his best work. Democratic lawmaker looks forward to Elon Musk 'turning his fire against MAGA Republicans' in 2026 midterms
Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., was optimistic on Friday that former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader Elon Musk would be targeting Republicans instead of Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections after his feud with President Donald Trump. In an interview with Semafor, Khanna said that he spoke to some of the Tesla CEO's "senior confidants" about whether Musk would be interested in supporting Democratic candidates in 2026. Based on Musk's recent attacks against the Trump administration and his history of supporting Democrats, Khanna believed a change could be possible. "Having Elon speak out against the irrational tariff policy, against the deficit-exploding Trump bill, and the anti-science and anti-immigrant agenda can help check Trump's unconstitutional administration," Khanna said. "I look forward to Elon turning his fire against MAGA Republicans instead of Democrats in 2026."
