Beet it to beat it: The weight-loss wonders of beetroot juice

Time of India2 days ago

B
eetroot (Beta vulgaris rubra), once seen mostly as a salad ingredient or food dye, is now making waves in the health world—especially as a functional food for weight management.
Packed with bioactive compounds like betaines and natural nitrates, beetroot juice offers a wide range of health benefits beyond its earthy flavor and vibrant color.
Why beetroot juice is great for weight loss
While research on beetroot juice's direct role in fat loss is still emerging, its nutritional profile makes it a valuable addition to any weight loss plan.
* Low in Calories: At just 43 calories per 100 grams, beetroot is a great low-calorie food.
* High in Fiber: Whole beetroot supports digestion and satiety—helping you feel full longer.
* Natural Detoxifier: Beetroot contains betaine, which supports liver function and helps your body detox more effectively.
* Boosts Exercise Performance: Thanks to its high nitrate content, beetroot juice increases blood flow and oxygen delivery, enhancing stamina and workout performance.
* Nutrient-Rich: It's loaded with essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants—supporting metabolism and overall health.
More than just weight loss
Beetroot's antioxidants help reduce oxidative stress, protect DNA, and lower LDL cholesterol. Its anti-inflammatory effects may also reduce chronic inflammation, which is often linked to obesity and metabolic issues.
How to use it
* Drink 100–200 ml of fresh beetroot juice daily
* For extra flavor and nutrients, mix it with apple, carrot, or ginger.
* Consume it before workouts to boost energy and endurance.
Beetroot is high in oxalates and may cause red-colored urine (beeturia)—both harmless but worth noting. If you have low blood pressure or kidney issues, talk to your doctor first.
Bottom Line: Beetroot juice won't melt fat overnight, but it's a nutritious, natural way to support energy, detoxification, and metabolism—helping you stay on track with your weight loss goals.

How to use Patanjali's 'Dharti ka Chaukidar': A product for increasing the purity of soil

With increasing reliance on chemical-based pesticides and fertilizers, soil health has emerged as a great concern for Indian farmers. 'Dharti Ka Chaukidar,' an organic input by Patanjali, is a sustainable option that works and helps by replenishing soil purity and promoting sustainable agriculture. This soil bio-enhancer helps restore soil fertility lost as a result of excessive chemical use. It does this by restoring the right proportion of soil components and eliminating poisonous residues. The product is usable on a wide variety of crops, including cereals like wheat and rice, legumes like peas and soybeans, vegetables, medicinal plants, and even fruits. How does it work? 'Dharti Ka Chaukidar' operates by increasing the microbial health of the soil. Microbes are essential for plants since they assist in the uptake of nutrients and maintain soil fertility as a whole. Ongoing use of the product boosts microbial action, increases the bio-carbon level in the soil, and ultimately contributes to better crop yields. It also assists in combating the evil impacts of toxic chemicals and heavy metal residues often left behind by man-made crop inputs. Over time, it leads to improved soil structure, increased water-holding capacity, and increased aeration—all of which are critical factors in healthy root growth. How to use it in farmlands? To get the best out of it, 'Dharti Ka Chaukidar' must be applied wisely based on crop and field conditions. This is how it is to be applied - Mix 10 to 20 kg of the product with soil in one acre of land at the time of final ploughing. Alternatively, it may be applied when the field is sufficiently wet. The dose can be adjusted based on the type of crop. Key advantages Enhances farm yields and maintains soil fertility. Decreases chemical toxic residues, improving soil texture. Enhances both the quantity and nutritional value of crops. Maintains balanced essential nutrients and shields crops against injurious insects and microbes. Corrects deficiency of nitrogen if sprayed on leaves. With Indian agriculture moving towards sustainable farming, products such as 'Dharti Ka Chaukidar' provide a surefire, green solution. Not only does it restore the land, but long-term gain also comes to farmers and the environment. Long-term benefits to human health As farmers continue to grow their crops using chemical-free methods, the food harvested will be safer, richer and healthier. Rich in nutrients and minerals, such grown crops will reduce the risk of chronic illnesses linked to chemical exposure, including cancers, hormonal imbalances, and neurological disorders. By starting at the soil level, this product will indirectly safeguard human health and will contribute to a healthier, toxin-free food system for future generations. Delhi To Get Major EV Boost, 4,000 Electric Buses to Hit Roads

Delhi Transport and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Friday promised to induct 4000-plus electric buses in the city by the year-end and promised to unveil a Yoga-based plan to manage diabetes in the coming months. "Pollution is a focus area for our government, and all departments are jointly taking steps to tackle it. At the transport department, we are determined to replace the ageing CNG buses with electric vehicles," he told IANS on completing 100 days in office. Also Read: "The introduction of EV buses is likely to offer a big relief to the public in terms of pollution and connectivity, even in congested areas," he said. He highlighted the implementation of health schemes like Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY) for the elderly, Ayushman Mandir, Ayushman Card, and check on irregularities in drug supply as some of the achievements of the health department in the first 100 days of the government. "The Ayushman scheme, whose benefits should have reached people long ago, was blocked by Arvind Kejriwal's government. We have supplied cards and enrolled beneficiaries through door-to-door drives," he said, adding that about 2.31 lakh beneficiaries have been issued health cards under the two schemes. The Minister hit out at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for indulging in publicity rather than serving the people on the ground. "We could not find anything positive in the functioning of the previous government. There are scams in almost everything related to drinking water, road, pollution, Yamuna-cleaning, transportation, hospital drug supply," he said, adding that, under the previous government, just five medical superintendents were running the affairs of all major hospitals in the city. Hitting out at the AAP government and its legislators, he said, "They did not perform and indulged only in the blame game. We are focused on delivering on the promises that we made." Describing diabetes as a common ailment affecting people, he said, "We are working on a new plan named 'Diabetes-plus with yoga'. Very soon, we will share information with the public," he said, adding that the health department is focusing on the smooth functioning of free dialysis centres. No time for 10k steps daily? Try this Japanese walking technique that gives 10 times the benefits in 30 minutes

Walking 10,000 steps a day is often recommended for improving overall health, aiding weight loss, and maintaining cardiovascular fitness. But in today's busy world, hitting that number daily can feel impossible. If you're someone who struggles to make time for long walks, there's good news. A Japanese walking technique discovered in 2007 offers a powerful alternative. According to fitness coach Eugene Teo, this 30-minute protocol provides up to 10 times the benefits of traditional walking. It's simple, efficient, and perfect for those short on time but eager to stay healthy and fit. What is the Japanese walking technique This technique, rooted in research from Japan, involves alternating between periods of fast and slow walking. Rather than aiming for a set number of steps, it's all about intensity and interval timing. Specifically, the method includes five sets of: 3 minutes of brisk walking 3 minutes of relaxed walking This interval cycle lasts for a total of 30 minutes. By switching between fast and slow walking, the body experiences improved cardiovascular stimulation and muscular engagement in less time. How Japanese walking technique compares to walking 10,000 steps Fitness coach Eugene Teo highlights that this method doesn't just save time—it significantly boosts physical results. Based on studies, participants following this protocol experienced: 29 times more improvement in aerobic fitness 10 times greater gains in leg strength 3 times better blood pressure management In contrast, reaching 10,000 steps often takes one to two hours, depending on pace. This technique condenses the effort into a compact, effective 30-minute routine. Why the technique works so well The alternating pace mimics high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which is known to maximize workout efficiency. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [단독] 서울 임플란트 '33만원' 에 가능해 플란치과 더 알아보기 Undo The brief, repeated bursts of effort challenge the cardiovascular system while allowing short recovery periods, improving stamina, heart health, and muscle tone. Who can benefit from this method Anyone who feels too busy for long walks or is looking for a more effective use of their exercise time can benefit from this Japanese walking technique. It's low-impact and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Plus, no special equipment is needed—just a good pair of walking shoes and a timer or watch. If you're tired of falling short of your 10,000-step goal, consider trying this efficient and powerful alternative. The Japanese walking technique proves that it's not about how much you walk, but how you walk. With just 30 minutes a day, you can unlock a wide range of health benefits and make fitness work for your lifestyle. One step to a healthier you—join Times Health+ Yoga and feel the change
