A proud Elon Musk shares how SpaceX started in a garage as its Falcon rockets complete 500th mission

SpaceX reached a landmark moment this week as it completed its 500th mission using its Falcon family of rockets. The achievement was marked by the successful launch of 26 Starlink satellites from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base on June 12 at 9:54 p.m. EDT. The event also triggered a wave of reflection, with Elon Musk sharing a nostalgic glimpse into SpaceX's early days. 500th Falcon Mission Marks Major Milestone The launch was part of the company's Starlink initiative, which aims to provide high-speed global internet access through a vast network of satellites. The 26 satellites deployed during the mission joined a growing constellation of over 7,600 already in low Earth orbit, making Starlink the largest satellite network ever developed. An hour after lift-off, SpaceX confirmed that the satellites had been deployed successfully. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the company highlighted the significance of the mission: by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo "Falcon completes its 500th overall mission! Congratulations to the entire SpaceX team for making the impossible possible on the road to rapidly reusable rockets !" Booster Returns After 15th Flight The Falcon 9 rocket used in this mission had a first-stage booster with the serial number B1081. This booster has now flown 15 times and once again returned to Earth safely, landing on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You stationed off the Southern California coast. While this is a remarkable achievement, the record for most launches by a Falcon 9 booster remains at 28. So far in 2025, SpaceX has launched 72 Falcon 9 missions, with 54 of them dedicated to expanding the Starlink network. Several of these satellites also carry direct-to-cell technology, enabling mobile texting and internet service through select smartphones and carriers. Elon Musk Reflects on Humble Beginnings As the company celebrated this major technical milestone, Elon Musk offered a moment of reflection. He posted an image on X showing him in a modest garage surrounded by early rocket parts with the caption: "How it started" The photo was taken in 2006 by Hans Koenigsmann, one of SpaceX's early engineering leaders, who commented on the post: "I am glad I took that picture in 2006." — elonmusk (@elonmusk) The 500th launch stands not just as a number, but as a marker of how far SpaceX has come since its humble beginnings. What started as an ambitious experiment in a garage has transformed into one of the most prolific and innovative spaceflight programs in history. SpaceX's rapid-fire launches, reusable rocket advancements, and expanding satellite networks underscore its continued impact on the global aerospace industry. With Musk's vision driving the mission forward, the journey from a garage setup to 500 Falcon launches seems like just the beginning.

Elon Musk's Starlink to launch in India soon; check release date, installation process, plans, price, speed, and more inside

New Delhi: Elon Musk, the wealthiest person in the world and the owner of satellite internet service Starlink, has reportedly said that the company is all geared up to launch its satellite internet service in India within the next two months. If this materialises then it will mark a defining moment in the country's internet landscape as it reportedly offers high-speed connectivity across an expansive area. Before Starlink, Eutelsat's OneWeb and Reliance Jio have already been approved to provide satellite internet services by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to operate in India. Starlink is already operating in over 100 countries and offering a range of residential and roaming plans. It is reported that for Indian users, it's expected to be available in two tiers, 'Residential Lite' for smaller households with lighter usage needs, and a 'full Residential service' designed for higher data consumption. This satellite service promises to provide high-speed internet access to remote and distant areas across India. Starlink rates As for the cost of Starlink, the company is expected to make it available the Standard Kit in India for around Rs 33,000. The Standard Kit will include the Starlink dish, a kickstand, a Gen 3 router, Starlink and AC cables, and a power supply unit. The Standard Kit is designed mainly for residential use and it will support routine internet needs like internet and web browsing, streaming, surfing, video conferencing, and online gaming. Monthly subscription plans for unlimited data are likely to range between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,200, says a report by the FE. Starlink internet speed Starlink is presently providing high-speed internet with speeds ranging from 25 Mbps to 220 Mbps. In fact, many users have reported constant speeds above 100 Mbps. Since it is a satellite based service, it does not require the usual fibre or mobile networks and provides smooth connectivity even in remote areas. Starlink is operated by Starlink Services, owned by Elon Musk.

Scale AI may lose partnership with Microsoft, Google, ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and Elon Musk's xAI after Facebook's $14 billion investment

Google, the largest customer of AI data-labeling firm Scale AI, plans to end its relationship with the company following news that rival Facebook-parent company Meta is acquiring a 49% stake, a report said. Google had reportedly intended to pay Scale AI around $200 million this year for human-labeled training data, essential for developing advanced AI models like its ChatGPT competitor, Gemini. Citing five sources familiar with the matter, news agency Reuters reported that the move stems from concerns that Meta's significant investment could expose Google's proprietary AI research and roadmap to a key competitor. Reportedly, the search giant has already begun discussions with several of Scale AI's rivals this week, looking to shift this substantial workload. Not only Google, The unease isn't limited to Google. Other major tech companies using Scale AI's services, including Microsoft and Elon Musk's xAI, are also reportedly distancing themselves. The report also says that OpenAI, another significant AI developer, had already scaled back its engagement with Scale AI months ago, though its spending was considerably less than Google's. However, OpenAI's CFO recently stated that the company would continue working with Scale AI as one of its many data vendors. Why these companies are scaling back their involvement in Scale AI The primary concern among companies competing with Meta in cutting-edge AI model development is the risk of their research priorities and technical blueprints being exposed to a direct rival. Customers often share proprietary data and even prototype products with Scale AI's workers for data-labeling services. With Meta now holding a substantial stake, these AI firms fear their chief competitor could gain sensitive business and technical intelligence. What it may mean for Scale AI For Scale AI, this potential loss of Google's business comes as a blow, despite its recent valuation jump to $29 billion following Meta's investment (up from $14 billion pre-deal). Scale AI's core business heavily relies on a few major customers, making it vulnerable to such departures. While Scale AI intends to continue operations, its CEO, Alexandr Wang, along with some employees, are moving to Meta. The bulk of Scale AI's revenue comes from providing human trainers to annotate complex datasets for generative AI model makers, a service that can cost as much as $100 per annotation for sophisticated examples. Its largest revenue stream is from its partnerships with generative AI model makers.
