SpaceX
reached a landmark moment this week as it completed its 500th mission using its Falcon family of rockets. The achievement was marked by the successful launch of 26
Starlink
satellites from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base on June 12 at 9:54 p.m. EDT. The event also triggered a wave of reflection, with
Elon Musk
sharing a nostalgic glimpse into SpaceX's early days.
500th Falcon Mission Marks Major Milestone
The launch was part of the company's Starlink initiative, which aims to provide high-speed global internet access through a vast network of satellites. The 26 satellites deployed during the mission joined a growing constellation of over 7,600 already in low Earth orbit, making Starlink the largest satellite network ever developed.
An hour after lift-off, SpaceX confirmed that the satellites had been deployed successfully. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the company highlighted the significance of the mission:

Booster Returns After 15th Flight
The Falcon 9 rocket used in this mission had a first-stage booster with the serial number B1081. This booster has now flown 15 times and once again returned to Earth safely, landing on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You stationed off the Southern California coast. While this is a remarkable achievement, the record for most launches by a Falcon 9 booster remains at 28.
So far in 2025, SpaceX has launched 72 Falcon 9 missions, with 54 of them dedicated to expanding the Starlink network. Several of these satellites also carry direct-to-cell technology, enabling mobile texting and internet service through select smartphones and carriers.
Elon Musk Reflects on Humble Beginnings
As the company celebrated this major technical milestone, Elon Musk offered a moment of reflection. He posted an image on X showing him in a modest garage surrounded by early rocket parts with the caption: "How it started"
The photo was taken in 2006 by Hans Koenigsmann, one of SpaceX's early engineering leaders, who commented on the post: "I am glad I took that picture in 2006."

The 500th launch stands not just as a number, but as a marker of how far SpaceX has come since its humble beginnings. What started as an ambitious experiment in a garage has transformed into one of the most prolific and innovative spaceflight programs in history.
SpaceX's rapid-fire launches, reusable rocket advancements, and expanding satellite networks underscore its continued impact on the global aerospace industry. With Musk's vision driving the mission forward, the journey from a garage setup to 500 Falcon launches seems like just the beginning.

Eight yrs after inception, 7,310 plaints in MahaRERA backlog

Eight years after its formation in 2017,the state's real estate regulator, MahaRera, is still grappling with a significant backlog of unresolved complaints. Of 29,374 complaints filed so far, 7,310 remain pending, prompting calls from homebuyers, legal experts, and activists for faster redressal and stricter enforcement of orders. Although MahaRera has resolved 21,888 cases and holds online and offline hearings, the increasing number of unresolved cases has alarmed consumer groups. They stressed the need for appointment of more adjudicating officers and setting up of regional benches to manage the growing caseload. MahaRera has registered over 50,000 real estate projects — the highest among state regulators — with nearly 50% of them located in Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune. However, stakeholders argued that this operational scale has not been matched by adequate capacity to address consumer grievances. Currently, MahaRera has one chairperson, two members, and three adjudicating officers. Activist Godfrey Pimenta of the Watchdog Foundation pointed out that this limited setup cannot cope with the volume of complaints. "Some complaints take two to three years, and in exceptional cases, up to five years to be resolved — despite the law requiring them to be addressed within six months. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo To effectively clear the growing backlog, there is an urgent need to increase the number of MahaRera members," he said. Shirish Deshpande, chairman of Mumbai Grahak Panchayat, added that section 20 of Real Estate Regulatory Authority Act gives the state full freedom to appoint more MahaRera chairpersons and establish additional benches. "It's been eight years since MahaRera was established, and yet we are witnessing an alarming backlog of cases, which is deeply disappointing for those who once supported its creation," he said. He explained that complaints typically fall into two categories: "First, is when homebuyers are seeking exit from the project and demanding refund with interest due to delay in getting possession. Second, is when homebuyers want to continue with the project despite delays but want interest on the amount they have paid as per section 18 of the Act. In both these cases, it should not take long for the authority to pass orders, since the interest rate is already prescribed in the Rera rules. Such matters can be disposed of expeditiously..." Smelling cash in the space race

Space has an odour. Visitors to the Goddard Space Flight Centre in Maryland, US, can smell it by pressing a button to inhale a puff of air that smells of space. Space is airless by definition, but the workaround is essential because we can't inhale 'space' without fatal consequences. Despite this logical complication, the experience is evocative and surprising. Space smells of long-distance travel. It smells of Indian highways far from big cities. It smells like the world did long ago on the railways, when almost everyone travelled without air conditioning. But hereafter, space could smell a little different. From the beginning of the space race, it has smelled of Cold War rivalry, military-industrial complexes and technology-based diplomacy. These metallic notes will remain; but from here on, space will also smell overwhelmingly of commerce, of paper money. Gold is economically and chemically stable. It has no smell, unlike space. The countdown of the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space station has been aborted twice but soon, astronauts from India, Poland and Hungary could be back in space after 40 years and more. In anticipation, their national media have already declared it to be a turning point for their domestic space programmes. But the composition of the Axiom-4 mission also indicates that the whole world has passed a turning point. The crew led by American Peggy Whitson will be taken to orbit on Elon Musk's commercial Dragon launch vehicle, and the project is a collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency, ISRO and the Houston firm Axiom Space, whose most ambitious project is the first commercial space station. The purpose of the collaboration is to facilitate a range of commercial activities in space, from scientific research to space tourism. Space is about to be opened up commercially, just like the world was opened like an oyster by the European Age of Exploration. About 40 years ago, when India, Poland and Hungary last sent their citizens into space, it was a domain where national governments showed off their technological prowess to compete for geopolitical gains. These three countries made a place for themselves in space under the aegis of Interkosmos, a Russian state programme launched in 1967 to help satellite nations of the USSR and other socialist nations like Afghanistan and Cuba reach space. Non-aligned nations Syria and India were also under its umbrella.

PM Modi to begin 3-nation tour from Cyprus today

File photo: PM Modi (Photo: ANI) NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi will travel to Cyprus on Sunday for the first leg of his three-nation tour that will see him participating in the G7 Summit in Canada and also visiting Croatia on his way back. Modi is also expected to have several bilateral meetings on the margins of the summit in Kananaskis. While the PM will have a meeting with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, his other bilateral engagements are still being worked out, official sources said. Modi will also come face to face with US President Donald Trump for the first time since their meeting in Feb. The ministry of external affairs said in a statement that the visit to Cyprus - the first by an Indian PM since AB Vajpayee visited the country in 2002 - will reaffirm the shared commitment of the two countries to deepen bilateral ties and strengthen India's engagement with the Mediterranean region and the European Union. The visit to Cyprus is significant also as it comes in the middle of India's tensions with Turkiye over the latter's support to Pakistan. Ankara's recognition of the so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the northern region that was seized by Turkish forces in 1974 and differences over gas exploration rights in the Eastern Mediterranean remain a constant source of tensions between Turkiye and Cyprus. Modi is expected to reach Canada on June 16, a day after the opening of the G7 Summit. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! "At the summit, the PM will exchange views with leaders of G7 countries, other invited outreach countries and heads of international organisations on crucial global issues, including energy security, technology and innovation, particularly the AI-energy nexus and Quantum-related issues," said the government in its announcement. For the final leg of his tour, Modi will undertake an official visit to Croatia on June 18. This will be the first ever visit by an Indian PM to Croatia, marking an important milestone in the bilateral relationship. "The visit to Croatia will also underscore India's commitment to further strengthening its engagement with partners in the European Union," said the government.
