Nelson's 26 lead Arkansas State over Saint Louis in NIT 103-78

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Izaiyah Nelson had 26 points and 10 rebounds in Arkansas State's 103-78 victory over Saint Louis on Tuesday night in the NIT.
Taryn Todd scored 21 points while going 8 of 14 from the floor, including 4 for 7 from 3-point range, and added seven assists for the Red Wolves (25-10). Derrian Ford had 15 points and went 5 of 6 from the field (3 for 3 from 3-point range).
Robbie Avila finished with 22 points and eight rebounds for the Billikens (19-15). Saint Louis got 20 points, 10 rebounds and two steals from Amari McCottry. Isaiah Swope had 16 points.
Arkansas State took the lead with 19:32 remaining in the first half and did not give it up. Nelson led his team in scoring with 12 points in the first half to help put them up 50-37 at the break. Nelson scored a team-high 14 points after the break.

Yankees' Anthony Volpe hit on elbow by pitch and undergoes tests
Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe left Friday night's game against the Boston Red Sox in the fourth inning with a bruised left elbow, two innings after he was hit by an 88.2 mph Walker Buehler pitch. New York said Volpe was undergoing an X-ray and a CT scan. Volpe winced in pain but remained in the game after he was hit by the pitch, which forced in a run. The 24-year-old Gold Glove winner played the field in the third inning, then was replaced by Oswald Peraza at the start of the fourth. Volpe hit a two-run homer in a five-run first inning. Venezuela defeats Bolivia 2-0 to approach World Cup intercontinental playoff spot
Associated Press CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuela beat Bolivia 2-0 on Friday to extend its advantage in seventh place in South American World Cup qualifying and a potential spot in an intercontinental playoff for next year's tournament in North America. Bolivian Hector Cuellar scored an own goal in the fifth minute after a simple pass to goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra ended in the back of the net. The hosts added a second in the 30th minute with striker Salomon Rondon, Venezuela's all-time top goal scorer with 47 goals, after he chested down a cross from Nahuel Ferraresi and scored with his left foot. Bolivia, which now trails Venezuela by four points with only three rounds to play, never threatened goalkeeper Rafael Romo at the Monumental Stadium in the eastern city of Maturin, Venezuela. Also on Friday, Colombia drew Peru 0-0 at home and failed to overtake Brazil in the standings. It was Colombia's fifth consecutive match without a win. The hosts at the Metropolitano Stadium in Barranquilla missed suspended striker Luis Diaz, who scored six goals in World Cup qualifying. Jhon Córdoba and Rafael Santos Borre were also out due to injury. World Cup champion Argentina, which secured its 2026 berth in March, leads South American qualifying after 15 matches with 34 points.
