Prince Harry and William's cousin dying is second family heartbreak within a single year

Daily Mirror22-07-2025
Rosie Roche, the granddaughter of Princess Diana's uncle, has been found dead at the family home, just one year after Thomas Kingston died in similar circumstances
Prince Harry and Prince William are mourning the loss of their cousin who was found dead earlier this month.

Rosie Roche - granddaughter of Princess Diana 's uncle - was discovered by her mum and sister on July 14 - with a firearm found near to her at the family home in Wiltshire, where the 20-year-old had been packing for a trip away with friends.

During an inquest hearing at Wiltshire and Swindon coroner's court, area coroner Grant Davies said police "have deemed the death as non-suspicious and there was no third-party involvement".

Rosie who was studying English Literature at Durham University, was reportedly preparing for a getaway with friends when her mother and sister made the heartbreaking find.

She was the daughter of Edmund (Hugh) Burke Roche and Pippa Long, who are mourning the devastating loss. The family, who have strong ties to the British aristocracy, have described her an "incredible" sister to Archie and Agatha.
An obituary placed in the Yorkshire Post by the family reads: " Roche, Rosie Jeanne Burke Died on Monday 14th July 2025. Darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, Granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long. Private family funeral. A memorial service will be held at a later date."
She was working towards obtaining a degree in English Literature during the time of her death. A spokeswoman said she 'will be sorely missed'. The inquest has been adjourned until October 25.

Rosie was the granddaughter of the 5th Baron Fermoy, Edmund Roche, whose sister Frances was the mother of Princess Diana.
Rosie is tragically the second relative William and Harry have lost in the last year.

Thomas Kingston, who married Harry and William's cousin Lady Gabriella Windsor in 2019, died in February last year aged just 45 with a firearm next to him.
The financier suffered a "traumatic head wound", and a gun was found near to his body in an outbuilding at his parents home in the Cotswolds, an inquest opening at Gloucestershire Coroners Court heard. Police said they were satisfied the death was not suspicious.
Tributes poured in for the 45-year-old, with close family describing him as "an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him".

At an inquest into his death, his distraught father, William Martin Kingston, heartbreakingly described through tears the moment he found his son lying dead in the locked bathroom of a detached annexe.
Lady Gabriella described how in his final weeks her husband had 'seemed normal', apart from early in the day after previously taking zopiclone, which she said made him seem 'almost hungover'. In her statement, she described their marriage as 'deeply loving and trusting' and said he had never expressed any suicidal thoughts to her or others.
In a statement read out by Katy Skerrett, senior coroner for Gloucestershire, Lady Gabriella said her husband's decision to take his own life was likely the 'result of a sudden impulse.'

She said she believed his death was 'likely provoked' by an adverse reaction to the medication he had begun, and subsequently stopped taking, in the weeks leading up to his death.
Mr Kingston married Lady Gabriella Kingston on May 18, 2019, at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. They got engaged the previous year on the Isle of Sark, part of the Channel Islands.

Moment Brit comedian 'accidentally shoplifts' seen on CCTV before she's arrested

Cerys Nelmes, a stand-up comic from Bristol, claims that she accidentally walked out of a Zara shop in Turkey without paying for her items - but quickly returned after realising her error This is the moment a British comedian leaves a Zara shop without paying - before she's arrested. ‌ Cerys Nelmes is facing three years behind bars after being accused of stealing clothes from a branch of Zara in Istanbul, Turkey on July 22. Mum-of-one Cerys, from Bristol, has been banned from leaving the country while police investigate the store's claims. ‌ Footage shows Cerys wearing a blue dress as she browses around the shop with an armful of clothes on hangers and other items in her backpack. Later footage shows her leaving the store clearly distracted by her phone and, according to her, forgetting that there were items in her white backpack she hadn't paid for. ‌ She is then seen standing just outside the shop, still on her phone, as a Zara staff member walks over and asks her and another woman to go back inside before the police were called, NewsX report. Cerys says she returned to the store without argument over the forgotten 6,000 lira (£110)-worth of clothing still in her backpack. But she told her social media followers she was then detained and locked in a room for hours with no explanation. ‌ From there, she was taken to a police station and said she was pressured to sign documents in a language she could not read. She was released on probation by a judge after 24 hours in a holding cell, allegedly with no food, water or loo. She has since been released but has been forbidden from leaving the country and is being put up by a local family as she does not have the money for an extended stay. The police investigation is ongoing. "I was told they didn't understand me," said Nelmes. The next day, she was brought before a judge who released her but banned her from leaving the country. She now faces a potential three-year sentence as the case proceeds. ‌ Ms Nelmes says she is stranded in Turkey, unable to afford accommodation and missing out on work back home, putting her and her son at risk of losing their UK home. She said: "I'm ok and have been taken in by a Turkish family who gave me food and a bed. I don't deserve all the kind words from people but I am very grateful." On her website it states of her career: "Cerys has worked very hard to forge a strong career in the comedy industry. She is a leading mc on the comedy circuit, working for major UK clubs and UK charity events. Cerys has a fantastic stage presence and her audience interaction is flawless." ‌ Recounting what happened, she said that she had left the store with several items of clothing before realising her error. Despite returning to the store, claiming she had returned the items and wanted to pay, Nelmes was seized for shoplifting. The stand-up, explained the incident in a social media post saying: "On Tuesday I left a Zara store in Istanbul without paying for items. "I returned straight away and handed the items to staff. I was asked to pay and I said I would and the manager accepted this. To cut a long story short I was then taken to a locked room where hours later after no communication from anyone I was taken away by police and held in a police station and was asked to sign things I couldn't read. "I was put in a prison cell for 24 hours with no food or toilet facilities. When I asked for water, I was told they didn't understand me. I was handcuffed and taken for fingerprints and mugshots at 3am. I was handcuffed and taken to court the following day and put in a cell. "I appeared before the judge and was told by a translator that I was released, but unable to leave Turkey for an undetermined amount of time. He said I was lucky to not be put in prison but I currently face up to three years. I have to report to a local police station every Monday. "I am lucky I have good friends in Turkey who are currently looking after me, and trying to translate the paperwork. I have no money, no earnings coming in from home, and I am running out of important medication. I will lose my home which I share with my son, and livelihood. "I am not looking for sympathy. I made a mistake which I tried to immediately rectify. I am embarrassed for my friends, my family, and I have made my 78-year-old mum unwell. I will never forgive myself for what I have done."

Southwark 'murder' probe: Father and son named as victims of quadruple stabbing

Terry and Brendan McMillan were stabbed to death at a commercial building in Southwark, central London, on Monday The two people who died in a quadruple stabbing have been named as a father and son. ‌ A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after Terry McMillan and Brendan McMillan were fatally stabbed at a business premises in Long Lane, Southwark, London. The pair worked at the business in Studio One. ‌ An employee of Terry McMillan confirmed it was Terry and Brendan who were killed. Rosemary George, 59, has worked as a cleaner for the family for the last 14 years, both at their home in Chislehurst and at their business. ‌ Rosemary George, 59, told The Mirror: 'Terry and Brendan have passed away. I have worked with them for 14 years. I'm just on the way to the house now in Chislehurst. I watched Brendan finish secondary school. From secondary school he went to college and then university for four years. 'He had a gap year in America. He did physical education and was good at rugby as well. I WhatsApped him yesterday at 3pm and there was no answer. I was calling the office and there was no answer. I didn't know what had happened. I found out this morning. ‌ 'I have cleaned their house for almost ten years - twice a week at the house and here once every three weeks. The office has roughly seven or eight people working there. It's not huge. Not all of them are family. I was worried because normally someone would always pick up the phone and nobody was picking up the phone." Emergency services were called to Long Lane in Southwark at about 1pm on Monday after reports of multiple stabbings inside a commercial property, where they found and treated four people for stab wounds. A 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and three other men were taken to hospital, the Metropolitan Police said. ‌ A 27-year-old man later died in hospital, police said. On Tuesday, police said a 31-year-old man, who is a British citizen and was initially detained in connection with the incident, was arrested on Monday. He remains in hospital and his condition is not life-threatening, they added. Witnesses said they saw a man pinned down in an alleyway outside the offices of Trademark Group, the McMillan family's firm which is involved in projects across Bermondsey. A man who works inside the building said: 'I saw him get tackled to the ground. There were 12 to 15 people out the back. There was a load of commotion, hundreds of people looking out from the balconies. He was on the ground, facing down, shirtless.' Another worker said a 'fight' between men went into the lobby of the Marriott Hotel next door. She said: 'It went into the hotel and back out, so it was closed off yesterday and people in hazmat suits went in." A nearby resident who knows Brendan said they had seen a video of a man they thought was him being wheeled to an ambulance after the incident. The woman said she had not heard it was him who had died. But she said she feared the worst after seeing the video and that his car had not moved from outside the business in the 24 hours since it happened.
