After his historic hundred, RR head coach Rahul Dravid had urged the media and fans to temper expectations around the teenager, emphasising the need to allow him room to fail and grow.advertisementFormer India coach and Australian great Greg Chappell also cautioned the BCCI, urging them to create a nurturing environment that protects emerging stars like Suryavanshi from burnout and premature criticism. For now, the young star finds himself under the microscope — a reminder of how quickly the IPL can shift from euphoria to examination.

KL Rahul's commitment to choosing ‘country over his child' gets exuberant praise: ‘He said, I want to go England early'
Former India cricketer and Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani lauded KL Rahul for his commitment, highlighting how he joined the Indian team in England early despite recently embracing fatherhood. Rahul, who is the senior-most batter in the current Test team after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's retirement, arrived in England early before the rest of the squad and played an India A game to get ready for red-ball cricket after the completion of IPL 2025. The elegant right-hander backed up his early arrival in England with a brilliant century in the second innings of the first Test, justifying his decision and underlining his commitment to the team. Instead, Rahul played the full IPL season for his franchise and then headed straight to England for national duty. "I really liked the fact that he was someone who said, 'I want to go to England early. I want to play the side game.' Forget about the hundred he got — that came later. The intent — that's what matters. The intent to be there early, to be prepared, to be with the side. Let's not forget, he's a young father, and I don't think his child is travelling with him initially. So for him to say, 'Country over my child' — that's a huge call," Badani told Times of India. "He could've easily said, 'I'm not playing the side game anyway, I'll just go straight to the Test match.' But he didn't," he added. 'KL Rahul has played the senior-most batter role really well' A second-innings century in the opening Test didn't just put India in command at a crucial juncture; it reaffirmed Rahul's place as the pillar of India's new-age batting order after the retirements of Rohit and Kohli. In a transitional phase for Indian cricket, where younger players are finding their footing and leadership is shifting hands, Badani stated that Rahul displayed great commitment and lived up to the role of senior player in the side. "KL made a statement I remember ahead of the Test series: 'I care for this team, and I want to be here.' He wanted to go to England. I could see the hunger in his eyes and in his words. In the absence of Rohit and Virat, he becomes the senior-most batter — and he has played that role really well," said Badani.

Team India are scheduled to play three-match ODI series against world champions Australia in October and already interest in these games is at fever pitch. Cricket Australia are already planning special farewell for both Rohit and Virat, something which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) failed to provide to the two stalwarts in Test cricket. Both India legends announced their retirement from Test cricket last month with Shubman Gill replacing Rohit as the captain. Following record ticket sales for the Ashes 2025, the ODI matches against India are also in high demand, with over 90,000 tickets sold to the eight matches after just two weeks of public sales, according to a release from Cricket Australia. The public ticket allocation for the SCG ODI and Manuka Oval (Canberra) T20I was exhausted four months prior to the match, highlighting the huge demand for these matches, while the MCG T20I and Gabba T20II are also proving popular. SCG ODI will be last match in Australia for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli The SCG ODI will probably be Rohit and Virat's final appearance on Australian soil with both cricketers unlikely to return to Aussie shores again. The duo have already retired from Test and T20 cricket and are only active in ODI cricket currently. It is expected that CA will be organizing a special event at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground for the two India stalwart. Rohit and Virat are expected to be seen in action in international cricket in July when Team India take on Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series. It is the first ODI series for Indian side after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai earlier this year. Bharat Army have bought maximum tickets According to Cricket Australia, more than 16% of the tickets sold so far have been purchased by Indian fan clubs. Bharat Army has been one of the most active fan clubs, purchasing over 2,400 tickets. Fans India has also shown significant enthusiasm, buying more than 1,400 tickets. Apart from this, Amit Goyal from Brissy Baniyas, an Aggarwal community, has acquired 880 tickets for the Gabba T20I, becoming the highest individual buyer for a single match, while the Indian Community of Gold Coast and Pakka Local have purchased over 500 tickets for the Gold Coast and MCG T20Is each. 'Exhausting our public ticket allocation for the SCG ODI and Manuka Oval T20I four months before the series is a testament to the tremendous interest for the upcoming season amongst cricket fans,' Joel Morrison, Executive General Manager Events & Operations, Cricket Australia, said in a release by Cricket Australia. 'We are thrilled to see continued strong engagement amongst the Indian diaspora off the back of a record-breaking Border-Gavaskar series last summer. The forecast strong turnout of Australian and Indian fans means we'll again have a fantastic atmosphere at each match,' he added.
