Dick Vitale ESPN tv personality talks cancer awareness and Clemson vs Duke basketball game
On Tuesday, Dick Vitale was told the four words he was so desperately waiting to hear.
You are cancer-free.
The longtime ESPN college basketball analyst, who has battled various forms of cancer since 2021, announced on social media that his doctors at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida gave him a clean bill of health after reviewing his scans and bloodwork.
'I can't believe it. I really am so excited,' Vitale said. 'It brought me to tears when he delivered it because as cancer patients, you know that call is nerve-wracking. It's life-changing. …I'm on cloud nine.'

Since undergoing surgery in the summer of 2021 to remove melanoma, Vitale has endured several different cancer diagnoses and treatments. He announced in October 2021 that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma and later that year, precancerous dysplasia and ulcerous lesions were found on his vocal cords.
Two years later, in July 2023, he was again diagnosed with cancer in his vocal cords, forcing him to undergo radiation treatments and in June 2024, a biopsy of a lymph node in his neck showed cancer.
During that four-year stretch, Vitale had to step away on several different occasions from calling games for ESPN, where he had become one of the faces of not only the network's college basketball coverage, but the sport as a whole. He missed the entirety of the 2023-24 season before making his much-anticipated return for Clemson's 77-71 win against Duke on Feb. 8.
"There were moments I wasn't sure I'd ever sit courtside again," he said to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in advance of his first game back. "Long stretches where I had no voice at all. It was a roller coaster — highs, lows, moments of doubt. But through it all, I kept fighting, believing, and praying. The last time I called a game was on April 3, 2023, the national championship, UConn versus San Diego State for ESPN International. That feels like a lifetime ago. But now? Now, I get to do it again."
Following the latest bit of good news, Vitale has some plans in mind.
'Celebration time tonight,' he said. 'I'm going to have a great Italian dinner, man. I feel like I won the national championship.'

ESPN on Cade Klubnik's strengths, weaknesses as a 2026 NFL draft prospect
ESPN on Cade Klubnik's strengths, weaknesses as a 2026 NFL draft prospect Cade Klubnik has plenty working in his favor heading into the 2025 season—and now, he'll have the full attention of NFL scouts watching to see what's next. After an up-and-down sophomore year, Klubnik took a major step forward in 2024 for Clemson. He finished the season with 3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and just six interceptions, putting together one of the best single-season performances by a Clemson quarterback in recent memory. According to ESPN's Jordan Reid, 'Klubnik entered 2024 with question marks after a rough sophomore season but emerged as a star.' Reid praised Klubnik's polish and command in the pocket, writing that 'he's able to repeat his mechanics and keep his eyes, feet and throwing motion in sync while going through his progressions.' The Clemson quarterback delivered on the biggest stage too, saving his best performance for the first round of the College Football Playoff, where he threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns against Texas. That showing, along with a strong supporting cast—Clemson returns its top three receivers in 2025—led Reid to project Klubnik as the No. 1 overall pick in his Way Too Early 2026 mock draft. 'He should be set up for success in 2025,' Reid said. But NFL scouts aren't sold just yet. While Klubnik's accuracy, footwork, and decision-making have drawn praise, questions remain about his physical ceiling. 'Scouts around the league I've talked to have raised concerns about Klubnik's arm strength and whether he can build on his 2024 success,' Reid noted. 'Questions about his arm surface when he's forced to test tight windows in underneath coverage and with his inconsistent trajectory on deep passes,' Reid added. Klubnik averaged just 8.56 air yards per passing attempt last season, which ranked 58th in the FBS. 'He must be more assertive and willing to challenge coverage in intermediate and deep areas,' Reid said. Klubnik's development in 2025 will go a long way in determining whether he truly has the tools to become a top NFL quarterback—or if he still has something to prove at the next level. ‘Medical Arranged' – Arsenal Transfer Set to be Completed
Jorginho Set for Flamengo Switch as Arsenal Midfield Reshuffle Begins As the summer transfer window kicks into gear, Arsenal fans can begin to bid farewell to one of their more experienced midfielders. Jorginho, the Brazil-born Italian international, is reportedly 'set for a medical' with Flamengo on Friday 6 June ahead of a free transfer move, according to a report from De Globo. Advertisement The 32-year-old midfielder, who joined the Gunners from Chelsea in January 2023, will leave the club on 30 June when his contract officially expires. His departure marks the start of an expected overhaul in midfield as Mikel Arteta reshapes his squad in pursuit of Premier League glory. Flamengo Beckons for Jorginho De Globo report that Jorginho is expected to fly to Rio de Janeiro in the early hours of Friday morning and will undergo a medical shortly after. Once completed, the veteran midfielder is anticipated to sign a contract with Flamengo, where he will wear the number 21 shirt. Photo: IMAGO This move brings Jorginho's time at Arsenal to an end after 79 appearances and two goals. While his signing raised some eyebrows initially, the experienced Italian played a steadying role in a young Arsenal side pushing for the title. Advertisement Though not a headline-grabber, his ability to control the tempo, retain possession and offer tactical intelligence made him a trusted figure for Arteta in key matches. That said, Arsenal's ambitions have clearly outgrown the need for a player nearing the twilight of his career. Zubimendi the Likely Successor With Jorginho out, the Gunners' attention turns to long-time midfield target Martín Zubimendi. The Real Sociedad midfielder has reportedly verbally agreed to join Arsenal and is seen as the ideal replacement. The 26-year-old Spaniard, known for his composure under pressure and elite passing range, is widely tipped to take over the role Jorginho leaves behind. Arsenal are expected to activate his €60 million (£50.6m) release clause. Advertisement Zubimendi, however, added a note of caution earlier this week. Speaking while on duty with the Spanish national team, he said: 'Of course there are options, but it's true that it seems like it's going to be a different, long summer, and I don't know how it will end. I don't think thinking about it right now is my priority. I'm here with the [Spain] national team, which I think is already quite demanding, and if I have to say something, then I will.' While this doesn't confirm a move is off, it does suggest the transfer may not be as imminent as some fans might hope. Arteta's Midfield Puzzle Jorginho isn't the only midfielder whose future is in question. Thomas Partey's deal is also due to expire, although talks are ongoing to extend his stay at the Emirates. Arteta reportedly wants to retain the Ghanaian, possibly as a depth option alongside any new additions. Advertisement In addition, Arsenal have already confirmed the exits of Kieran Tierney, Raheem Sterling and Neto, which further highlights the club's intent to refresh the squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. This planned midfield evolution is strategic. With Zubimendi targeted and Declan Rice already central to Arteta's plans, the Gunners want to ensure their engine room is durable, dynamic and press-resistant — qualities needed to topple Manchester City and go one better than last season. Our View – EPL Index Analysis As an Arsenal supporter, the news that Jorginho is set to leave isn't shocking — but it does invite reflection. There's a certain respect due to players like him who, despite limited time, brought professionalism, leadership and experience to a young side. He might not have had the legs for a full-throttle Premier League campaign anymore, but he undoubtedly had the brain. Advertisement His move to Flamengo feels fitting, offering a return to his roots and perhaps a final chapter with silverware in South America. But the bigger picture here is Zubimendi. If Arsenal can land him, this feels like a significant upgrade. He's composed under pressure, reads the game intelligently, and has the technical quality to help Arsenal dominate in possession. Yet there's a niggling worry. Zubimendi's comments show he's in no rush. Could another club swoop in? Are Arsenal once again risking a delay that could cost them a key target? The club must move decisively. Losing Jorginho is manageable — but missing out on his successor could destabilise Arteta's entire midfield project.
