Mister Rogers, Sesame Street on PBS teach empathy. Trump wants to take that away.

Growing up in the 1980s, I watched three shows religiously: Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, The Electric Company and Sesame Street − all on Channel 48. I was a PBS kid, and many years later, when I had kids, they were PBS kids. These television programs showed me empathy toward others, exposed me to different cultures, and enlarged my world beyond my Cincinnati neighborhood. They expanded my mind.

I am a better human because of public television − a medium that the market would never support through advertising and that deserves federal funding. The things PBS taught me are exactly the things that President Donald Trump and his enablers don't want − an enlightened electorate that values and has empathy towards others, and that has an expansive view of the world. They dismiss these things as "woke." They deride enlightenment because they are incapable of seeing the light.
Welcome to the new Dark Ages.

Stephen Colbert Reveals 'Appalling' Habit Even Trump's Own Aides Are Struggling With

'Late Show' host Stephen Colbert said President Donald Trump's aides are struggling to keep him informed of world events for one very Trump-like reason. 'According to intelligence experts who have tried to brief him, the problem with Trump is that he doesn't read,' Colbert said, citing a Rolling Stone report. 'Which is appalling.' Colbert said one CIA analyst reportedly said that while Trump didn't read his daily intelligence briefing, he 'touched' it. 'Touching it doesn't count, I don't think,' Colbert said. A retired intelligence officer told Rolling Stone that the briefings were the 'most difficult challenges' the intelligence community faced. Colbert was left in disbelief. 'Yes, the most difficult challenges that the entire intelligence community of the United States has ever faced,' he repeated. 'Getting Trump to learn, I believe, is the plot of the next 'Mission: Impossible.'' There is now talk of giving Trump intelligence briefings via Fox News-style reports since he likes to watch the right-wing network. 'I think it actually makes sense because he is always like looking at Fox News and the best way to get information into his brain is just to put the information someplace he's already looking all the time,' Colbert said. 'So either they have to put the top secret information on Fox News, or at the bottom of a chicken bucket.' See more in his Tuesday night monologue:

Elon Musk just humiliated Trump, the bromance is over & the internet is roasting

ALLISON ROBBERT/AFP via Getty Images;President Donald Trump and Elon Musk's bromance may finally be over. The bromance between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk may finally be over. Not only has Musk announced he was stepping away from his position with DOGE (the Department of Government Efficiency), but now he's openly criticizing the mega spending bill that will fund the Trump administration's legislative agenda, calling it a "disgusting abomination" in an extremely public post on X (formerly Twitter). "I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination," Musk wrote. "Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.' This came amid a flurry of posts from Musk, where he openly admonished Republicans for voting for the 'One Beautiful Bill Act,' which the Trump administration claims will decrease the federal deficit, but Democrats have said will only serve to raise it while cutting social services like Medicaid. Musk spent $288 million on Trump's election campaign, and until recently, the two men have been joined at the hip as Musk helped him campaign, attended his inauguration (where he rallied the crowd with a, and held court alongside Trump at the White House as the head of DOGE. But now Musk has written on X that "Congress is making America bankrupt' and the spending bill 'will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.' Although Musk hasn't posted anything about Trump specifically, he doesn't have to as the meaning is clear. The president has spent weeks whipping the vote and making veiled threats against any Republican congresspeople who oppose it. This public break from Trump is likely bothering the president bigly, and it's causing people across the internet to roast the MAGA president and Musk for a divorce that seemingly is in the air. Gay Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia tagged Musk in a post where he pointed out that 'the only people who voted for this bill were House Republicans.' Someone else quipped that "Elon's just mad because Trump's spending bill doesn't cut enough food aid for starving little Ethiopian children,' while other people joked that 'the breakup is complete.' Keep scrolling for the funniest reactions to the end of Trump and Musk being besties! "OMG the breakup is complete." "Hey @elonmusk, the only people who voted for this bill were House Republicans." "Trump is a failure and even Elon Musk knows it" "Elon's just mad because Trump's spending bill doesn't cut enough food aid for starving little Ethiopian children" "Elon Musk just went OFF on Donald Trump and the Republicans. Seems like their divorce is happening ASAP!" "Elon today." "Two things can be true at once: Elon is correct; and also no one cares what he thinks, least of all Trump." "ICYMI: Elon Muskrat just tweeted: "I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it." Only the GOP voted for it" "Elon Musk has gone woke" "Schumer: If even Elon Musk—who is Trump's buddy—says the bill is bad, you can imagine how bad this bill is." "The girls are fightingggg" "So in the elon musk and donald trump divorce who gets custody of MAGAts???' "As the child of divorce I know how hard it must be for Republicans in Congress to watch their daddies fight. But like a broken clock, Elon 'K-Hole' Musk is right." "'I don't know an Elon Musk, I take a lot of pictures with people. He may have brought me ketamine once or twice.' - DJT"

Donald Trump makes big statement, says extremely hard to make a deal with China's President XI

U.S. President Donald Trump described Chinese President Xi Jinping as 'very tough, and extremely hard to make a deal with,' in a new post on Truth Social on April 6, 2025. The comment comes amid renewed speculation over a potential high-stakes phone conversation between the two leaders later this week. 'I like President XI of China, always have, and always will, but he is VERY TOUGH, AND EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE A DEAL WITH!!!' Trump wrote, emphasizing his long-standing rapport with Xi while also acknowledging the complexities of negotiating with him. This statement arrives at a crucial moment. A senior White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, recently told CNBC that Trump and Xi are likely to speak 'very soon,' though probably not on Monday. The call, if it takes place, would come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Beijing, threatening to unravel a tentative trade agreement the two nations had reached just weeks ago. The Trump-Xi dynamic remains a critical piece in the puzzle of U.S.-China relations, particularly as both sides weigh economic interests, strategic posturing, and ongoing tariff standoffs. Analysts say any dialogue between the two leaders could be pivotal in determining the future of bilateral trade and global market sentiment.
