Difficult Daughters, Backed By Alia Bhatt, Selected For Asian Project Market At BIFF
Actor Soni Razdan's "Difficult Daughters", produced by daughters Alia and Shaheen Bhatt, is among the four films from India selected for this year's Asian Project Market at the Busan International Film Festival.
The indie film also lists Alan McAlex and Grishma Shah as producers.
Cannes-winner Payal Kapadia and her "All We Imagine As Light" actor Kani Kusruti have teamed up with "The Great Indian Kitchen" director Jeo Baby to back "Last of Them Plagues". The film, directed by Kunjila Maschillamani, is also part of the list alongside Saurav Rai-directed "Lanka" (The Fire) and "Moon" by Pradip Kurbah.
"Lanka" is produced by Sudeepta, Sadhukhan, Viraj Selot and Ankita Purkayastha. Asian Project Market, the largest co-production and financing platform in Asia, plays a vital role in discovering emerging talent and connecting them with global investors.
This year APM received a record-breaking 455 submissions from 44 countries and selected 30 projects from 15 countries. The line-up also includes several other filmmakers who have previously been at the Busan International Film Festival, including Kurbah whose "Iewduh" won the Kim Ji-seok award at the festival in 2019.
Bangladeshi filmmaker Biplob Sarkar is also returning with LGBTQ -themed "The Magical Men" after screening his debut feature "The Stranger" at the festival in 2023.
The Busan International Film Festival runs from 17 to 26 September and the APM will be held from September 20 to 23.

Ruchi Gujjar slaps producer Karan Singh at film premiere, files police complaint alleging Rs 23 lakh fraud
An FIR was registered against Karan Singh, the producer of Hindi film So Long Valley, for allegedly cheating model Ruchi Gujjar of Rs 23 lakh, a Mumbai police official said on Saturday. Viral videos showed Ruchi purportedly slapping Karan during the movie premiere event held on Friday night. The film's co-producer Man Singh, however, accused the model of staging a 'publicity stunt.' In videos gone viral on social media, Ruchi is seen staging protest at the So Long Valley premiere in Mumbai, along with a few associates. They're heard shouting slogans. After losing her cool, the model is even seen smacking Karan with her sandal. An Oshiwara police station official confirmed that an FIR was registered against Karan Singh on Thursday under various sections for cheating on a complaint lodged by Ruchi Gujjar. The model alleged that Karan had taken money from her under the pretext of launching a movie project for a television channel, and promised her a share in the profit and on-screen credit, the official said. 'The complainant said the project never materialized and Singh didn't return her money,' he added. The police have registered a case under sections 318(4), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). So Long Valley is a Hindi-language crime thriller film starring Tridha Choudhury and Vikram Kochhar. Meanwhile, the film's director and co-producer Man Singh said that Ruchi Gujjar was resorting to a 'publicity stunt'. In a statement, Man claimed that Ruchi tried to get a stay on the film's release, but the court allowed them to go ahead as per its schedule. 'Model Ruchi Gujjar and Karan Singh know each other very well. If she paid some amount to Karan for our movie, she should provide the evidence. It's a publicity stunt, nothing else,' he added. As per an India Today report, Ruchi Gujjar alleged in her complaint that she transferred several amounts worth a combined sum of Rs 24 lakh from her company, SR Event and Entertainment, into accounts linked to Karan Singh's K Studios. However, the project they planned never saw the light of day. 'Despite repeated contacts, he kept postponing them and lied,' the actor said in her complaint. Ruchi Gujjar is a Haryanvi model who grabbed eyeballs earlier this year when she wore a necklace consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's face to the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival in France.
