'General Hospital 'Star Leslie Charleson's Cause of Death Revealed 1 Month After She Died at 79

Yahoo14-02-2025

Leslie Charleson's cause of death has been revealed.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner determined the longest-tenured General Hospital cast member died from "sequelae of blunt head trauma,' a condition caused by a previous head injury, according to online records viewed by PEOPLE.
The online records indicate the actress — who starred as Monica Quartermaine on the soap opera — also was diagnosed with asthma, arthritis, atrial fibrillation, and normal pressure hydrocephalus, which Alzheimer's Association defines as 'a brain disorder in which excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) accumulates in the brain's ventricles.'
TMZ, which obtained Charleson's death certificate, was first to report the news.

Charleson's cause of death comes one month after the four-time Daytime Emmy nominee died at age 79 on Jan. 12. At the time, General Hospital's executive producer Frank Valentini announced her death on the show's official Instagram.
"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson," he shared. "Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on General Hospital alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew."
"I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit and incredible presence on set,' he continued. "On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time."

In 1977, Charleson joined General Hospital as the series' ratings were floundering, replacing Patsy Rahn, who had debuted as Monica Bard Webber (later Monica Quartermaine) a year earlier. Monica, a doctor, filled the bad-girl archetype on the show, and Charleson loved playing her.
'She's interesting, dedicated in all areas,' Charleson told Soap Opera Digest in 1981. 'Her dedication in her social life can be a bit over the top, but it's true. When she loves, it's passionately. She puts her effort into it, sometimes at the expense of others.'
At the time, the actress was happy with her character's growth. 'I'm delighted with the progress she's made, her sense of humor," she said. "As an actress I enjoy Monica because she can wear any hat, go any place, do any thing.' Of her character's reputation, she added, 'When you're all good, you're boring. And nobody is just 'good,' unless she's a saint.'
Monica's most impactful relationship on the show was with fellow doctor Alan Quartermaine, played by the late Stuart Damon. The Quartermaine family joined the show the same year Charleson did, ultimately giving Monica deep ties to the show.

Beginning in 2010, Charleson began to appear on General Hospital on a recurring status and made less frequent appearances in the last years of her life.
Looking back at her GH tenure, she told Soap Opera Digest in 2001, 'I really do love this job. Look at it this way — what better job can you do than get up in the morning, roll out of bed, throw something on and then have someone take care of how you look and how you dress and what you say? How much more grateful could you possibly be? Not bad, not bad at all."

David Eason's ex-girlfriend Olivia Leedham's daughter Lailah has died unexpectedly. Leedham's mom confirmed Lailah's death to PEOPLE. "Our friend Olivia Leedham tragically lost her beautiful seven-year-old daughter, Lailah Price, yesterday," the GoFundMe description reads. The pair share daughter Ensley and went on to separate in 2019 before getting back together in 2020. In 2024, Evans confirmed that she had officially split from Eason. She shared a TikTok and publicly announced the news with a video in which she shared, "I filed for separation." She later posted another video explaining that she had to file for separation in the state of North Carolina before filing for divorce. Evans had previously stood by her estranged husband over the years amid legal trouble. In May 2019, the influencer temporarily lost custody of her two younger children after Eason shot and killed their family dog for biting their then-2-year-old daughter in the face. That July, the reality star confirmed to PEOPLE she had regained custody of her son and daughter. In November 2021, Eason also had a run-in with the law when he was caught driving with a revoked license and being in possession of an open container. Read the original article on People

General Hospital spoilers: Willow loses custody, and Drew makes a bold move to keep her under his influence?

It looks like General Hospital fans won't have to wait too long for the verdict of Michael (Rory Gibson) and Willow's (Katelyn MacMullen) custody hearing, as it's been teased that the judge will reach a decision during the week of June 9. Call it wishful thinking, but we suspect the moment the court is dismissed for the final time in this case, Michael will be granted full custody of Wiley (Viron Weaver) and Amelia (Sequoia & Serenity Mork Macko). Whether it be because the judge truly sees the harm in the kids being raised near Drew (Cameron Mathison) or someone paid the judge to sway things in Michael's favor, we can't help but hope the young children are placed with their father as Willow continues to fall for Drew's scheming and tricks. If our hunch proves correct, we sadly think Drew will use the loss as an opportunity to further sink his manipulative hooks into Willow. As we see it, Drew may try to make one of two bold moves that would leave us shaking our heads in disgust (we already find the character repulsive). Our first guess is that Drew might offer Willow a new family as a 'consolation prize.' After he tries to reassure her that the judge got the decision wrong and he'll use all his power to make sure a reversal is made on the custody ruling, Drew might propose that he and Willow get married, she adopt Scout (Cosette Abinante) and they get started on having kids of their own. While some would be repulsed by the suggestion of trying to start an instant new family right away that doesn't include their own children, we can't say Willow would feel that way. Lately, everything Drew says registers as right in her mind. If this isn't the move Drew makes, we suspect he could just suggest that Willow pick up and move with him to Washington, DC, leaving Port Charles behind. During the hearing, it was revealed that he bought property there (which he should have, considering he's a congressman), so he may want Willow to move with him and Scout. Which would effectively isolate her from Nina (Cynthia Watros) as well. Now Willow may initially resist an idea that puts distance between her and her children, but again, Drew has become very good at convincing her to do whatever he wants. He may say it's good for them to relocate as they work to figure out how to get her kids, and she might agree. Of course, regardless of what Drew proposes, we have to think Willow will finally wake up to the real Drew Cain one of these days. Heck, maybe Nina finally reveals all to make Willow realize that she's destroyed her life for a selfish and loathsome human being. Or perhaps the bombshell drops that Willow has been dating Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) this whole time as he pretends to be Drew. Having said all of that, we have to wonder how Willow changes her perception in Port Charles and among General Hospital fans at home. Right now, Drew may be the most disliked man in all of daytime, but she doesn't exactly have a bountiful fan club. New episodes of General Hospital air on weekdays on ABC. If you miss an episode, you can catch up on Hulu.

Tom Daley speaks out about his father's death as he admits he 'didn't know who to turn to'

Tom Daley "didn't know who to turn to" when his dad died. The 31-year-old Olympian lost his father, Robert, to a brain tumour more than a decade ago, but he is sure that his dad is still "supporting" him with everything as he goes on in his life and career. He told People: "When he was gone from my life, I didn't really know who to turn to or who to talk to about lots of things. "There wasn't really anyone that would bring it out of me, because my dad was always someone who kind of knew exactly what I was thinking and how I was feeling and knew how to fix it. "He supports me all the way, and if I didn't have his support system, I wouldn't be here now 'cause I wouldn't want to carry on." Tom has sons Robbie, six, as well as two-year-old Phoenix with his husband Dustin Lance Black, and recently admitted that losing his dad was one of the "most difficult" things he has ever had to go through but still takes inspiration from his dad when it comes to his parenting style. He said: "I model lots of my parenting and lots of the things that I do every day around what I learned from my dad. He my biggest cheerleader. He was there for every training session, every competition, and he was a huge part of my life, day in, day out. "Losing him was one of the most difficult things that I ever had to deal with." Yet I was dealing with that in a very public way in the U.K. Looking back on all of that footage was quite challenging to watch because I felt really sorry for the younger Tom that I kind of was just carrying on and putting on a brave face, and I didn't ever want to bother anyone with how I was feeling because I didn't want to ever make anyone else feel uncomfortable." Tom has discussed his life and career at length in the new documentary, Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds' but admitted that he initially had reservations about speaking about such personal things on camera. He said: "I wasn't sure about doing it initially. You know what? This is something that I would love to be able to then show my kids in the future and be able to be like, 'Look, this is what Papa did. This is the thing that Papa was doing day in, day out' And the things that I did, and be able to get to know the relationship I had with my dad and all of that stuff."
