The cause of an A55 closure, which shut the westbound carriageway for two hours and sparked a huge emergency response has been confirmed by police and it wasn't a crash.
A fight broke out between two men, after a road-rage type incident at the height of rush hour yesterday afternoon.
The brawl took place near Dwygyfylchi, with police and air ambulances called to the scene.
Both men, who were passengers in separate cars, were taken to hospital with injuries. One was later arrested with the women drivers of the two cars, also arrested.

A North Wales Police statement said: "North Wales Police were called at 16:01hrs on Monday, May 19th reporting an altercation in the live westbound carriageway of the A55 at Dwygyfylchi between two males. Officers responded and the road was closed.
"Both males were passengers in separate vehicles - an Audi and a Cupra, and both were injured and taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd with injuries.
"The female drivers of both vehicles were arrested - a 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and section 18 wounding and a 49-year-old female was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, racially aggravated public order and careless driving.
"One male has since been released from hospital and is now in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of assault.
Both females have since been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue. The A55 reopened shortly before 6pm.

"Officers would like to thank all those who contacted them yesterday, and also to all motorists for their patience and understanding whilst the incident was dealt with."
Two air ambulances were called. One from Caernarfon landed at the site at around 4.30pm while the second helicopter from Welshpool turned around on route to the incident.
At one point both sides of the A55 were closed between the Penmaenmawr turnoff and the Llandudno Junction side of the Conwy Tunnels. This saw traffic diverted onto alternative roads with congestion in places like Conwy and Llandudno Junction.
The eastbound lanes reopened a short a time after the incident, but the road remained closed Westbound for more than two hours.

'My dad died after a vicious attack in Benidorm and we still have no answers'

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A British man tragically died after being viciously assaulted in Benidorm - but his family still don't know who attacked him. Mike Rydings had been on a lads' "trip of a lifetime", but it quickly ended in unthinkable disaster. The dad, then aged 47, had travelled to the Spanish resort with his pals. But after a night enjoying a few drinks at a bar and watching the 2018 World Cup, he was attacked during the early hours of June 23. Mike, a builder from Wythenshawe, sustained a broken nose and fell onto the ground, hitting his head and suffering horrific injuries. He had been set upon by a member of a group of five or six unknown men, reports the Manchester Evening News. Sign up now for the latest news on the North Wales Live Whatsapp community Mike spent a month unconscious in hospital, with his then-pregnant daughter Hayley and sister Nicola flying out to be by his side as he lay hooked up to ventilator machines. (Image: PA) After being repatriated to Salford Royal Hospital, Mike spent the remaining year of his life unable to move or speak, in a vegetative state and needing around the clock care. He tragically died in August of 2019. He was just 48. On what would have been his 54th birthday, Mike's daughter Hayley said the family has spent years in the dark and "unable to have closure without answers" as they issued another desperate appeal for information. Hayley said: "You can't ever really move on, because you don't have any answers. It's been years and we haven't been told anything." She added: "At the time, there were so many different witness stories. At one point we were told it was a stag party and someone in camouflage clothing. Then we were told it was a bouncer. "One stated that, the night he was attacked, my dad had a drink and was seen backing off with his hands in the air when he was punched to the nose, which broke, and then he fell backwards onto his head. "They said they have never been able to get the sound of him hitting the ground out of their head." Mike, whose full name is Michael, was 47-years-old when he went on the holiday to the Spanish town with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday and watch the 2018 football World Cup. His group of 30 were on the Avenue de Mallorca strip and had been to the Hippodrome Bar when the lifelong Manchester United fan became separated from his friends. In the early hours of the morning he became involved in a dispute with another group and was subsequently knocked to the ground and suffered catastrophic head injuries. There was an investigation by the Spanish police which concluded without anyone being prosecuted. During the investigations carried out by Greater Manchester Police, detectives interviewed over 15 English holidaymakers who were there on the night of the attack. They established that the man suspected of assaulting Mike was described as a white man aged in his 20s or 30s, with a larger than average build, 5ft 7ins to 6ft tall, who was possibly wearing camouflage clothing. The attack happened in an area popular with tourists. Bars were busy with drinkers watching the World Cup and enjoying a night out. Hayley, 36, added: "My dad's partner at the time got the call from one of his friends to tell her what had happened. When you hear that, you still never think it will be as bad as what we walked into. "When I first saw him in the hospital and he was lying there with tubes everywhere it was so painful I had to walk back out. I was pregnant with one of my daughters, and I flew out the next day with my partner. "Between me and Nicola his sister we kept going back and forth to make sure he was never on his own. It was so hard on us all. I had a young child at the time too, so it was really difficult." Mike was flown back and admitted to Salford Royal Hospital. Despite surviving until the August the following year, Hayley said he was unable to move or speak, and that she had "already lost him" before his life support was turned off. "He couldn't move, he couldn't talk and he couldn't breathe without a machine," Hayley added. "But there were days where it seemed like he was getting better and he'd take breaths on his own. "It would build up our hope up and we thought he might be able to have some quality of life. But every time you got up there, you'd hit a brick wall. "Only his eyes were his very limited communication via blinking. You never knew if he understood you or not. It was like we'd already lost him. He was such a proud person and for him to be like that... it just wasn't him. He was always out and about and active. "My dad never got to hold her or touch my daughter because he was in hospital. In 2022, I had a son which would have been his only grandson. He had always wanted a grandson." Greater Manchester Police confirmed there had been no updates in the case, which remains in the hands of Spanish authorities. Hayley added: "It was like the Spanish police just thought a British man had gone over, got p***ed and started a fight. But my dad was not a violent person. "We want to get this out there again, to see if anyone can remember anything or will speak out." Anyone who may have information or remember anything that may resonate from a trip to Benidorm in the summer of 2018 is still urged to contact police with any details they may have. Mike had been wearing a red Hugo boss t-shirt on the night in question and was outside the Hippodrome bar in Benidorm Square when a fight broke out with a group of five or six men. Anyone with information should contact the police's Major Incident Team on 0161 856 6777 quoting Operation Thurston. Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Rhyl High: Child was videoed being ‘beat up' by fellow pupil

The Journal has been shown a video of the incident, which took place on Monday (June 2). It is understood that this video was shared widely on WhatsApp by other pupils. The father of the victim of the assault has criticised the school for the way in which it has dealt with the matter, while North Wales Police has also been informed. He told the Journal: 'My child was beaten up on video inside Rhyl High School, while kids surrounded the fight and screamed: 'kill him'. 'The school failed to protect him and isn't being held accountable. I just want to raise awareness that these things are happening in the school, as it could have ended much worse.' The father said he said he was informed in a meeting on Wednesday (June 4) that the alleged perpetrator's parents have 'been spoken to', but he said he was dissatisfied with how the meeting went. He added: 'After this, we have now decided to move our child to another school, as we do not believe he is safe there and we have lost trust in the staff. 'No-one from the school told us our child had been attacked, either. It took our child to come home and tell us he'd been battered again.' Denbighshire County Council declined to comment, and said it is a matter for Rhyl High School to deal with. Rhyl High School did not respond to a request for a statement. A North Wales Police spokesperson said: 'We can confirm that we have received a report that an assault took place at the school involving a pupil. 'Our inquiries are underway.'

Man arrested on suspicion of murder after 16-year-old hit by car on pavement

Graphic CCTV footage of the incident in the Darnall area of Sheffield appears to show the car veer into the opposite carriageway before hitting the 16-year-old at speed. South Yorkshire Police said on Thursday that a man had been arrested in Kent on suspicion of murder. Three people – a 45-year-old woman and two men aged 26 and 46 – have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, the force said. All four remain in custody. Detectives said they believe a grey Audi drove towards three electric bikes, colliding with one rider, who suffered serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening. The Audi then collided with the teenager and failed to stop at the scene, officers said. Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Wood said: 'This is a tragic incident in which an entirely innocent bystander, who was going about his daily business, has sadly lost his life. 'Our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones and we remain focused on securing justice for them.' Mr Wood said: 'We know that this incident will have caused concern in the local community, and we have a team of detectives working at pace to piece together the circumstances which unfolded. 'We're aware of footage being shared online and I'd like to reiterate our message to the public to withhold from speculating or circulating videos which may cause distress to the boy's family. Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Wood said: 'This is a tragic incident in which an entirely innocent bystander, who was going about his daily business, has sadly lost his life. 'If you have any footage, imagery or information that may help our investigation then please share this directly with us, it may form an important part of our inquiries. 'We are also keen to hear from the riders of two electric bikes who were in the area at the time of the incident.' Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Staniforth Road shortly after 4.50pm on Wednesday. Mojid Khan said the boy came to rest at the gates of his Staniforth Road wholesale catering business, and his staff were the first on the scene after hearing the collision. He said he arrived half an hour later and was shocked to see what his CCTV system had recorded. Mr Khan said on Thursday: 'When it happens on your doorstep, literally, it does affect you. It's quite horrific to see how it happens.' He said: 'I think it's a local lad that's passed away and another local lad that got injured on a motorbike. It's shocking for us as a community. 'The disturbing thing is that this is not the first time that this has happened. It seems every few months something like this is going on. 'I think that's a matter for our politicians to do something about.' He said: 'Tomorrow is our Eid festival. That's going to hit them (the boy's family) even harder. 'It should be a happy day. I'm really sad for the family. Their loss is going to be that much greater tomorrow.' Mr Khan said people used the road outside his business 'like a racetrack', and there were increasing problems with quad bikes and scooters. 'I have children in this area who go to school, who go to work, and other family members going to the local shops,' he said. 'It's quite distressing and disturbing to know this kind of thing is happening on a regular basis.' Mr Khan said it was a close-knit community, in which he had worked since 1978, but speeding motorists and gang problems had begun to blight the area in recent years. People began to lay flowers outside Mr Khan's business as the large police presence in the area dispersed on Thursday. Debris from the collision could still be seen in the road, at the junction between Staniforth Road and Barnardiston Road.
