Kim Woodburn 'never stopped fighting for children of alcoholics' as video posted after star's death shows her in parliament urging for action after her own 'miserable' childhood
Kim Woodburn fought tirelessly for people affected by alcoholism after suffering her own 'miserable' childhood with abusive parents.
The Celebrity Big Brother star sadly passed away aged 83 on Monday, June 16, her management announced in a statement on Wednesday.
Following her passing, a charity posed a tribute to the TV personality showing her in parliament urging for action on the cause.
Kim's career on the television spans nearly 25 years and within that time she certainly made some great television.
But away from her blunt and bossy persona which the public loved her for, the star had a soft and vulnerable side where she advocated for charities.
One in particular is Nacoa UK - a charity which provides support people affected by their parent's alcoholism through a free, confidential telephone and email helpline.
Taking to their official Instagram page on Saturday, the charity paid tribute to Kim following her death with one particular moment that showed just what kind of person the star really was.
In the clip, Kim in seen in parliament and said: 'My mother drank. She was an alcoholic. My stepfather was also rather brutal. It was a miserable existence. And I'm here to tell you that you never forget it.
'And when you're constantly told your "ugly" and "if I could have sent you back when you were born, I would've done," I'm sad about it to this day.
'We are all children when we're adults, you know. There's something in us that stays that little child.
'What I want to government to realise is that if we don't look after the children of today, they're the adults of tomorrow.
'If we want them to function as grown ups, we've got to help them. They're only little souls.
'So I'm asking you, as the government, please prioritse your spending. I know there's a great deal of spending. It's not just the little ones, is it? But they're priority aren't they?
'And if not, why not?'
Alongside the clip the charity gushed over her many achievements with the charity
Alongside the touching clip, the charity penned: 'RIP Kim. We will never stop fighting for children affected by their parents drinking.
'We've come so far, but the horizon is still a way ahead - to a destination Kim Woodburn so beautifully described.
'Great friends have joined us along the way. And through this @nacoauk movement for change, we create a legacy of one day seeing real change for these most vulnerable and hurting young people.
'This government continues to stick its head in the sand. A sad, sad thing. But our people keep brining us hope.
'Kim Woodburn put her name to our work when our issue was even more controversial than it is now.
'She brought patron @camilla.tominey into the fold, leading to amazing impact that changed the world for COAs.
'To many people's surprise, she brought the Parliamentary Group for Children of Alcoholics to tears. You'll remember, @liambyrnemp!
'In parliament is where this video was filmed, ten years ago. It rings as true today as ever.
'The fight goes on, Kim. But you can now rest in peace. #URNotAlone.'
Kim - whose full name is Patricia Mary Woodburn - was born in Eastney, Hampshire, in March 1942 to parents Pat and Ron Mackenzie, with her early life was marked by upheaval and trauma (pictured in 1968)
Born in Eastney, Hampshire, in March 1942 to parents Pat and Ron Mackenzie, Kim's early life was marked by upheaval and trauma.
She told in her autobiography that her mother 'deprived me of the love and security a child ought to have.'
Kim claimed that the very fact that she was a girl was seen by her parents as her first 'crime'.
Her mother would 'regularly' brand her a 'little b****' and tell her that if she could 'send her back' she would.
She and her sister Gloria, who was 19 months older than her and known as Gezzie, were sent to live with their grandmother after their mother 'took off' with one of her philandering father's friends.
And when that arrangement proved too taxing, the sisters were sent to a foster home.
Their mother would turn up every few weeks 'without warning' to 'claim us back', Kim said.
The star was also savagely beaten by her mother.
In recent weeks, Kim had cancelled her work commitments due to health concerns, confirming she would no longer be offering Cameo videos in a statement on Instagram on March 2
She recalled the 'sharp intake of breath' of an NSPCC inspector when he saw the bruises covering her back after a beating that her mother falsely blamed on her husband.
Kim detailed how she fled her mother's influence a month before she turned 16, when she found refuge at the home her father shared with his second wife.
However, in 2017, Kim claimed that her father also abused her, including sexually.
Speaking on This Morning, she said: 'My father was a Royal Marine. He was physically abusive. He would hit me with carpet brushes.'
Asked if it was sexual, she added: 'Oh yes'.
Kim's passing was announced on Wednesday.
Her representative confirmed to MailOnline: 'It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness.
'Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person. Her husband Peter is heartbroken at the loss of his soulmate.
'We are so proud of the amazing things Kim achieved in her life and career.
'We kindly ask that Kim's husband and close friends are given the time and privacy they need to grieve. We will not be releasing any further details.'
Kim is survived by her husband Peter - who she married in 1979.
In a heartbreaking post on Instagram following her passing, he shared a slideshow of images of Kim since birth.
He penned in a caption: 'My wonderful, beautiful, Kim passed away last night. God bless, my love, xxxx.'
In the months before her death, Kim had paused her work commitments due to ill health and she also underwent surgery on her eye earlier this year.
Known as the 'Queen of Clean', Kim rose to fame as the co-host of Channel 4's popular series How Clean is Your House? at the age of 60.
Kim went on to become a household name on ITV chat shows This Morning and Loose Women.
She also starred in a number of reality TV shows including a stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2009 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017.

Lily Allen wows in eye catching white feather dress as she joins Alicia Vikander and Cate Blanchett at The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party
Lily Allen made sure all eyes were on her as she posed up a storm at The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party in London on Tuesday evening. The Smile hitmaker, 40, opted for a strapless black dress which was adorned with dramatic white feathers and white polka dots. Accessorising with diamond dangly earrings, the singer showcased the results of her recent boob job which she underwent earlier this year following her split from husband David Harbour. Lily was joined by actress Alicia Vikander who looked stunning in a cream dress adorned with a blue beaded floral pattern. Meanwhile Cate Blanchett opted for a very quirky corset style top made out of sea shells. The actress, 56, was covered in an array of shells as she paired the top with a frayed faded knee length skirt and nude heels. Kelly Osbourne continued to show her recent weight loss in a simple strapless black dress which trailed along the ground. Elsewhere Georgia May Jagger put on a very leggy display in a black mini dress as she posed with fashion designer David Koma. The model, 33, left little to the imagination in the high-legged skirt while the top part of the dress featured a mesh panel and rose detailing. Actress Rebel Wilson was also in attendance alongside her wife Ramona Agruma. The Australian star, 45, opted for a white dress adorned with a gold leaf pattern, while her wife wore a blue velvet suit. Jourdan Dunn looked sensational in a gold halter neck metallic dress with black strappy heels. Joanne Froggatt wowed in a white satin slip dress which featured a high leg slit. She completed the look with see-through heels. It comes after Lily was seen enjoying an apparent first date with J ames Norton as they put on a cosy display while watching Charli XCX on stage at Lido Festival in London earlier this month. The singer, 40, and actor, 39, couldn't wipe the smiles off their faces as they stood together in the crowd and sipped non-alcoholic beers at the sell out show in Hackney's Victoria Park, after reportedly first meeting on celebrity dating app Raya. A source told The Sun: 'Lily and James appeared to be on a date. They were together for the day and were chatting and laughing together as they watched Charli XCX. Lily was leaning into him at one point'. 'She and James seemed really relaxed together and she was really making him giggle. They were drinking non-alcoholic beer and queued at the bar like all the other punters. People were doing double-takes when they saw them together'. Before adding: 'Because they're both on Raya it seems like they might have matched with each other'. MailOnline have contacted Lily and James' reps for comment. Lily ended her marriage to Stranger Things star husband David Harbour, 50, in December 2024 after four years of marriage, following her discovery he had a secret profile on Raya. Harris Reed wore an all white suit (L) while Adot Gak (R) opted for a white strapless gown with jewelled embellishments Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and Saadiya Khan also appeared in great spirits as they attended Beth Ditto wore a white wool dress, black tights and silver heels Meanwhile James is said to have split from model girlfriend Charlotte Rose Smith, 26, last month before being spotted back on the star-studded dating site. Raya is so exclusive that it accepts only around eight per cent of applicants, but it has more than 10,000 members, with 100,000 on the waiting list. James' Raya profile is said to feature photos of the Happy Valley star with a shaved head – a dramatic new look he's adopted for his upcoming role in Sunny Dancer, currently being filmed in Scotland with co-star Bella Ramsey. The hunk, who is a strong contender to be the next James Bond, started dating Charlotte late last year and was pictured out with her on several occasions. At the time, an insider told The Sun: 'They have been enjoying dates and seem very happy together. 'It has been a year since his relationship with [ex Imogen Potts] ended and he appears to get on so well with Charlotte. They make a lovely couple.'

I was a female debt collector and had to chase people for £1 – mortifying incident in man's flat made me quit
A FORMER debt collector has revealed the bizarre incident in a man's flat that led her to quit the profession. Lynne Cavanagh, 46, rounded up outstanding payments of as little as £1 from clients around Glasgow. 3 3 The mum of three, who has also worked jobs in private care and cleaning, said she "got to know" all her customers because she did the same rounds every week. She was always invited into people's homes - but thought nothing of it until one awkward visit. In a recent TikTok post (@lynnelxx), she said: "I used to do the debt collecting years ago. You'd go and you'd collect people's money every week. "It could be like a fiver or £1 or whatever. You give them money, you give them loans. "Everybody invites you in. You're never ever doing that at the door because people don't want people to know and hand out their money at doors and fill in slips and all that. "So you're always invited into people's houses, which I never ever thought as being a danger or weird until this scenario." She continued: "There was this one guy I used to go to all the time and he stayed in an upstairs flat. "He's either out the back sunbathing or he's arguing with the neighbours, there was always something. "But this one day I went to his door and he came to the door with a housecoat on and it was one of the satin things. It was strange." The house call only got more awkward when mortified Lynne realised what her client was watching on the telly. I'm in £15k worth of debt but STILL have TWO gardeners - people might judge me but they are an essential and a godsend And despite inviting her in to sit in the living room, the brazen gent didn't turn the TV off. "You can hear moaning and groaning, if you know what I mean?" Lynne cringed. "I can't even tell you. I just didn't want to even look anywhere. "He's still got his Pornhub channel on, but way back then, I don't even think that's what it was [called]. "And they're at it there, right? So there's a good few of them on the telly, and they're all screaming and moaning, andand I'm like 'f***, £4, you owe me, right?'. "He's blethering away, but as he's sitting down, his nightgown's sort of opening, you can see he's a bit excited. 3 "I literally was like 'oh, you need to turn that down, it's too noisy' and he's like 'oh, sorry, sorry, sorry, forgot that was on'." She continued: "I don't know if I was fearing for my life, but it was that kind of situation, you're thinking you just want out it very, very quickly, and you don't know how to get out it without causing offence." Lynne admits that the incident was "forgotten about like it didn't happen" by her next visit, but put doubts in her mind about her job. "You've no idea how much my heart was beating, and how the rest of my run that night just did not go that great, because I was just thinking 'f***'. "And then after that, I started thinking is it safe to go into people's houses? Because we just automatically walk in, and they know when we're coming." Not long after, Lynne's manager got a tip off that she was going to be ambushed while walking to one of her jobs. She said: "So then, after that, I sort of gave up the debt collecting, because I just thought, I don't know if this is that safe for me to do on my own." How to shift your credit card debt quickly By James Flanders, Consumer Reporter UK Finance reports that we spend a whopping £2 billion a month using our credit cards. While that little strip of plastic makes everyday spending easy peasy, it comes at a huge cost. According to The Money Charity, the average credit card debt sits at £2,485 per household or £1,312 per adult. And if you're stuck on a credit card with a high APR and only making the minimum repayments, you could be forking out hundreds of pounds extra in interest charges. For example, if you owe £1,312 on your credit card and are charged 24.8% APR. If you don't make any more transactions and pay £100 a month in repayments, you will pay off the card by September 2025 but at £207 in interest. However, by hunting around for a better deal elsewhere and switching to a balance transfer credit card with a lengthy interest-free period, you can save yourself £162. If the same person was accepted for a 28-month-long zero-interest credit card with a 3.4% balance transfer fee and made the same £100 repayments each month. They would pay off the debt sooner, in July 2025, and only fork out £45 towards the 3.4% balance transfer fee. Before taking out a new credit card or increasing the amount you borrow, it's vital to consider the consequences. You should only borrow money if you can afford to pay it back. It's always vital to ask yourself if you need to borrow before committing to a new credit card, personal loan or overdraft. If you use a credit card, I'd recommend that you always pay off your balance in full at the end of each statement period. Lenders have a responsibility to help customers who are in debt. If you're in a debt crisis, your first point of call should be your lender. They might help you out by offering you a reduced interest rate or a temporary payment holiday - so check in with your lender if you're struggling.
