Apple Worldwide Developers Conference To Kick Off June 9
SAN FRANCISCO, May 20 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Apple on Tuesday announced the lineup for its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC25), including the keynote and Platforms State of the Union sessions, Xinhua reported.
Set to take place online from June 9 to 13, the free conference will bring together the global Apple developer community to explore the latest tools, technologies, and features across Apple's platforms, the company said.
Throughout the week, developers worldwide will have the opportunity to connect with Apple engineers, designers, and evangelists, and stream more than 100 sessions focused on helping them build innovative, platform-differentiated apps and games for Apple's ecosystem.

On June 9, Apple will also host a special in-person event at Apple Park, welcoming over 1,000 developers and students.
The WWDC25 keynote address will be available to stream on apple.com, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel.
Following the keynote, the Platforms State of the Union session will offer a deeper dive into new technologies and tools available to developers spanning iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, and watchOS platforms, Apple said.
Members of the Apple Developer Program and Apple Developer Enterprise Program will also be able to engage directly with Apple experts through online group labs and one-on-one appointments.
These interactions will cover a broad range of topics, including Apple Intelligence, app design, developer tools, graphics and gaming, machine learning, and Swift.
In addition, 50 winners of this year's Swift Student Challenge will be recognised for their outstanding submissions and invited to a special three-day experience at Apple Park.

In the early morning mist, workers in uniforms and hard hats move with purpose through the Gribo-Popoli Hydroelectric Power Plant, inspecting spillways, monitoring water levels, and checking equipment. Among them is 32-year-old Bassirou Konate, a quality inspector who began his career nearly a decade ago. "When I first joined the Chinese-built hydropower project, I could barely read the blueprints," Konate recalled. "But a Chinese mentor was assigned to me. Step by step, he taught me everything." Konate began his career in 2016 at the Soubre Hydroelectric Power Plant, a project also built by the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina). Since then, he has contributed to several major infrastructure initiatives and become a key member of the team building the Gribo-Popoli hydropower plant. "What I learned in school was theory," he said. "It was these projects that gave me hands-on experience. Now, I can support my family. I see a future not only for myself but for my community." Situated on one of Cote d'Ivoire's major rivers, the Gribo-Popoli station is part of a series of hydropower projects. The Sassandra River, with its abundant flow and favorable elevation gradients, holds vast potential for renewable energy. After completing the Soubre Hydroelectric Power Plant in 2017, PowerChina saw all three generating units at Gribo-Popoli come online by November 2024, unlocking even more hydropower capacity for the country. Yet, the energy these projects generate extends beyond electricity -- it is also empowering the growth of local talent. Dozens of Ivorian workers who began their careers at Soubre, like Konate, have since stepped into critical roles at Gribo-Popoli as quality inspectors, technicians, and supervisors. Their growing expertise is powering a new chapter in national infrastructure, one driven not just by machines, but by the skilled hands of local professionals. Hou Bing, chief engineer of the Gribo-Popoli Hydroelectric Power Plant, said the project created roughly 2,000 direct jobs during its construction phase and supported an additional 1,000 through related industries. "These projects are more than worksites. They are schools, places where Ivorian workers gain skill and confidence," Hou noted. "Knowledge is passed on along with the trust between our peoples. Together, we are building not only dams but bridges of friendship." Yao Michel N'Guessan's story mirrors that of Konate. Fresh out of school when he joined the Soubre project, N'Guessan began with little more than textbook knowledge. "Chinese engineers taught me how to install and maintain electrical systems," he said. Through on-the-job training, he steadily mastered the complexities of construction. Today, he leads a construction team at Gribo-Popoli. "What I gained from my Chinese mentors wasn't just skills," he said. "They taught me discipline, responsibility, and precision. We're not just workers anymore. We're nation-builders." As night falls, lights flicker on across the Gribo-Popoli Hydroelectric Power Plant, casting a warm glow over the Sassandra River. Yageo says it will protect technology if Shibaura purchase succeeds

Chairman Pierre Chen told reporters in Taipei on Saturday that the company will meet with Shibaura in mid-June in Tokyo to discuss potential cooperation. Yageo, the world's largest maker of chip resistors, launched an unsolicited tender offer for Shibaura in February, seeking full control of the Japanese firm, which specialises in thermistor technology. Yageo offered to buy Shibaura at 4,300 yen per share, valuing the company at more than 65 billion yen ($450 million). Spurning Yageo's overture, Shibaura tapped Japanese components supplier Minebea Mitsumi as a white knight. Minebea and Yageo entered a bidding war, with the latter now offering 6,200 yen. The stock closed at 6,100 yen on Friday. "Our strategy is to inject resources and strengthen R&D for advanced technologies. We're also preparing to make larger investments to expand their facilities in Japan," Chen said. Asked about Japan's national security concerns, he said: "We will implement strict controls to ensure technology does not leak." Unsolicited takeovers were once rare in Japan, where companies often mounted elaborate defences. Yageo said it aims to ease the burden of managing smaller component suppliers for its major clients, including Apple and Nvidia, by offering more comprehensive product portfolios and solutions. Yageo is also the world's number three manufacturers of multilayer ceramic capacitors and provides key components used in Apple's iPhones, Nvidia's AI servers, and Tesla's electric vehicles. 77 pct of Russian internet users have played video games: survey
MOSCOW, June 6 (Xinhua) -- A recent survey conducted by the Russian government-owned research center VCIOM found that 77 percent of active internet users in Russia have played video games, reflecting a more widespread global trend. As of 2025, the global gaming community has expanded to around 3.32 billion players, showing a significant rise from previous years. In fact, video gaming has become an increasingly popular hobby for both the younger and older generations. Of the 77 percent of Russians who have played video games, 44 percent consider themselves active players, while 33 percent say they used to play but no longer do. This shows that while gaming is widespread, almost half of the respondents continue to play on a daily basis. In Russia, gaming is predominantly favored by men and younger adults, especially those that are financially stable. In contrast, women, older adults and those with lower incomes tend to have less gaming experience. A distinctive feature of the Russian gaming landscape is the fact that personal computers remain the most popular gaming platform. The findings of the poll show that 82 percent of gamers use a computer or laptop to play games. A total of 63 percent of the respondents use mobile phones, while 27 percent use tablets, and 27 percent consoles. Russian mobile games are also becoming more popular among the population. The number of transactions on RuStore, Russia's official application store, has nearly doubled over the past year, with 60 percent of payments linked to domestic games, Ilya Ulyanov, the director of business development at RuStore, told Russian media Izvestia. The improvement of the quality of games, the growth of the diversity of in-game content and the development of convenient payment methods are causing the growth of its domestic games, said Ulyanov, the income of Russian indie developers in RuStore increased four times in the first quarter of 2025 from the same period last year. Although fewer people use consoles than mobile phones, console gaming remains a promising sector. For those Russians that do use consoles, they note that they offer a way to unwind and spend time with family and friends. PlayStation remains the most popular console, according to the report.
