Pakistan shelling hits JK border village, damages homes and gurudwara wall
Jammu and Kashmir [India], May 9 (ANI): Several houses and vehicles were damaged in a border village in Jammu and Kashmir following unprovoked firing by Pakistan using mortars and heavy calibre artillery.
The boundary wall of a Gurdwara in the area was also partially damaged due to the shelling that took place late last night.
Speaking to ANI, a local resident said, 'At around 1 am, there was a lot of shelling here. There was no damage to the Gurduwara Sahib and the medical dispensary here.'
Officials are assessing the extent of damage. Further details are awaited.
Pakistan Army resorted to firing on Thursday night across the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri, Kupwara, Tangdhar, and Karnah sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, violating the ceasefire.
Pakistan fired eight missiles directed at Satwari, Samba, RS Pura and Arnia, and all were intercepted and blocked by air defence units, defence sources said.
The sources said visuals over Jammu remind one of a Hamas-style attack on Israel, using multiple cheap rockets to traget cities.
Pakistani drones were intercepted by Indian air defence in Jaisalmer. Explosions were heard, and flashes were seen in the sky. A complete blackout has been enforced in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and Jalandhar, Punjab. Blackouts have also been enforced in Kishtwar, Akhnoor, Samba, Jammu, and Amritsar, Jalandhar.
India had responded to the Pahalgam terror attack through Operation Sindoor, in which terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pok was targeted through precision strikes. India also said that any attack on military installations will invite a suitable response.
On Thursday, the Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. The Indian response has been in the same domain with the same intensity as Pakistan's. It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised. (ANI)

House session starts with tributes to terror victims
1 2 Kolkata: Bengal assembly convened its two week-long monsoon session on Monday and offered condolences to victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack . As the House assembled, speaker Biman Banerjee condoled the deaths of 26 people. Obituary references were also made to the deaths of Bollywood actor Manoj Kumar, Tehatta MLA Tapas Saha and Kaliganj MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed. Everyone observed a one-minute silence. Full-fledged legislative business will commence on Tuesday with a resolution condemning the terror attack and hailing the armed forces. CM Mamata Banerjee is likely to participate in the two-hour discussion. Biman said while Parliament failed to acknowledge Operation Sindoor's significance, state assembly would formally express its gratitude towards the forces. Govt. to plant 70 lakh saplings this year: CM Rekha Gupta
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday planted a 'sindoor' sapling at a government school in Shalimar Bagh and said the country's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack was a reflection of our 'national spirit'. She inaugurated the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' campaign at the school in Shalimar Bagh and said that the Delhi government is planning to plant 70 lakh saplings this year. This comes days Ms. Gupta assured her commitment to sustainable urban development and environmental conservation on World Environment Day. 'Our resolve is to make Delhi not just a Capital but a symbol of greenery, cleanliness and compassion. For this purpose, a target of planting 70 lakh saplings has been set this year so that a green and healthy Delhi can be provided to the coming generations,' the CM said in an X post. She said that planting saplings is 'one of the few ways to combat pollution'.
