Aeronero Deep Tech Raises $1.5M in Landmark Round Led by Callapina Capital and Rezwan Razack of Prestige Group to Scale Air Water Tech

The Wire2 days ago
Chennai, 12th August 2025 — Aeronero, a pioneering deep-tech innovation company revolutionizing the future of water through science-led technology, has secured USD 1.5 million in its first-ever funding round. The raise was led by Callapina Capital and co-invested by Rezwan Razack, MD of Prestige Properties (Razack Family Trust) , SAN ANGELS, Jamwant Ventures, and marquee HNIs including Kiran Deshpande (Former CEO, Tech Mahindra) and S. Ramadorai (Former CEO & Vice Chairman, TCS). This capital injection marks a significant inflection point for the Chennai-headquartered startup, which has developed a suite of Air Water solutions that generate clean, alkaline, drinkable water directly from the atmosphere. Aeronero's flagship systems are already deployed across homes, offices, and military outposts in India and abroad, addressing severe water scarcity in regions where traditional sources are failing.
At the heart of the company's mission is its guiding principle: Water for All, Always. The company's Founder & CEO, Dr. Durga Das—a former professional athlete recently honored with a Doctorate in Technology and Innovation—shared, 'This funding marks a pivotal moment for us. Water scarcity is not just a crisis—it's a call to reimagine the systems that sustain life. With the right science, scale, and partners, we're not just building machines—we're building a global movement toward water independence.' Backed by 13 global patents (many already commercialized) and a robust research-driven platform, Aeronero has achieved 400% YoY growth in the past year. The company currently holds an order book of nearly ₹30 crore and is rapidly scaling its in-house manufacturing capacity to produce 2,000 units per month, with a ₹100 crore topline in its sights.
Vinod Jose, General Partner at Callapina Capital, noted, 'After tracking Air Water generation for three years, we believe this is the most disruptive innovation the water sector has seen in a century. Aeronero's decentralized, patent-backed model and visionary leadership position them to lead the global AWG market. They're answering a fundamental question: Can we source water without extracting it from overburdened natural ecosystems? The answer is yes—and it's in the air.' Prestige Group, one of India's leading real estate developers, sees the collaboration as a critical step toward sustainable infrastructure integration. Rezwan Razack, MD of Prestige Properties (Razack Family Trust), remarked, 'We've engaged deeply with Aeronero and are excited by the promise their innovations offer. Our investment reflects our confidence in Durga's vision and Aeronero's potential to reshape water sustainability across the communities we serve.' The startup has also gained endorsements from leading industry figures. Kiran Deshpande shared, 'We are proud users of Aeronero's 'Bubble' system. The water is pure, alkaline, and ideal for drinking. Durga and her team are doing phenomenal work in creating sustainable, decentralized water systems.' Echoing this sentiment, S. Ramadorai added, 'Aeronero is visionary and scientific in equal measure—creating drinkable water from thin air. Their platform is not only efficient but smart and internet-enabled. It's a scalable solution to one of humanity's oldest challenges.' Jamwant Ventures, another investor in this round, emphasized the strategic significance of Aeronero's work in national resilience. 'Our investment in Aeronero aligns with our belief in Atma Nirbhar Bharat—backing innovations that strengthen India's defense and sustainability infrastructure,' the firm stated.
As climate change and urbanization continue to place immense stress on traditional water infrastructure, Aeronero is stepping into a leadership role in redefining how the world sources its most critical resource. Its fully Made-in-India solutions span from smart household units to large-scale industrial systems, all engineered for decentralized deployment.
With its latest funding and a growing coalition of strategic backers, Aeronero is poised to lead a water-secure future—one where clean, safe drinking water flows not from a pipe, but from the air itself.

Crackdown on Boss IPTV and affiliates, viewers warned of legal action and severe penalties

Image for representational purposes New Delhi: An international operation has exposed a large-scale illegal Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) operation streaming pirated content across various digital platforms. According to the reports, this unlawful network has been implicated in severe copyright infringement and data privacy violations. The network is operating under brand names such as Boss IPTV, Guru IPTV, Tashan IPTV, Brampton IPTV, Vois IPTV, Indian IPTV, Punjabi IPTV, Edmonton IPTV, Boss Entertainment IPTV, and UltrastreamTV. These services have been illegally broadcasting premium Indian and international content including channels and programs from Star, Zee Network, Colors, Sony, Sun Network, ETV, Aha, Sonyliv, as per the police. They are also streaming global streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and international sports leagues—without securing proper licenses or permissions. Here are some of the key details: These illegal services were delivered through Android/Linux-based set-top boxes or via apps on smart devices They were aggressively promoted online via social media, websites, and blogs, offering premium content at prices significantly below legal services. As per the government investigations, these platforms do not pay content owners or platforms for rights, deeply harming the entertainment industry. The global South Asian broadcast sector loses an estimated USD 200– USD 300 million annually due to IPTV piracy, affecting licensed platforms like YuppTV. There are serious security concerns apart from economic damage Pirated IPTV services frequently collect user data, including credit card details, and are often connected to phishing scams, tax evasion, and potentially the funding of other criminal activities, such as drug trafficking and terrorism. To recall, in 2021, following a complaint filed by YuppTV, the Faridabad Cyber Crime Branch conducted a raid on Boss IPTV operations in India, resulting in the arrest of six individuals connected to the illegal piracy network. YuppTV has further filed a civil complaint in the United States District Court, represented by Goldstein Law Group, LLC ('GLP'), targeting Boss IPTV and its affiliated entities. According to GLP: 'Any subscriber using illegal IPTV pirate services… may be linked to copyright infringement, a crime under U.S. federal law. Convictions may result in felony charges, and non-citizens convicted of such offenses may be subject to deportation under U.S. law.'

Asian shares mixed after days of gains driven by hopes for US rate cuts

Asian shares were mixed on Thursday after days of gains driven by hopes for lower US interest rates, while US futures slipped. Bitcoin rose more than 3 per cent to a new record of over USD 1,23,000, according to CoinDesk. In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.4 per cent to 42,657.94 as investors sold to lock in recent gains that have taken the benchmark to all-time records. The Japanese yen rose against the dollar after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview with Bloomberg that Japan was behind the curve in monetary tightening. He was referring to the slow pace of increases in Japan's near-zero interest rates. Low interest rates tend to make the yen weaker against the dollar, giving Japanese exporters a cost advantage in overseas sales. The dollar fell to 146.55 Japanese yen early Thursday, down from 147.39 yen. The euro fell to USD 1.1703 from USD 1.1705. In Chinese markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index shed less than 0.1 per cent to 25,597.85, while the Shanghai composite index gained 0.2 per cent to 3,690.88. South Korea's Kospi slid 0.3 per cent to 3,215.61, while Australia's S&P ASX 200 index added 0.5 per cent to 8,871.80. Taiwan's TAIEX fell 0.4 per cent, while India's Sensex edged 0.1 per cent higher. Asian markets opened today like a party that ran out of champagne before midnight the music still playing, but the dance floor thinning out, Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management said in a commentary. The futures for the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down less than 0.1 per cent. On Wednesday, US stocks ticked higher, extending a global rally fuelled by hopes the Federal Reserve will cut US interest rates. The S&P 500 rose 0.3 per cent to 6,466.58, coming off its latest all-time high. The Dow climbed 1 per cent to 44,922.27, while the Nasdaq composite added 0.1 per cent to its own record set the day before, closing at 21,713.14. Treasury yields eased in the bond market in anticipation that the Fed will cut its main interest rate for the first time this year at its next meeting in September. Lower rates can boost investment prices and the economy by making it cheaper for US households and businesses to borrow to buy houses, cars or equipment, though they risk worsening inflation. Stocks of companies on Wall Street that could benefit most from lower interest rates helped lead the way. PulteGroup climbed 5.4 per cent, and Lennar rose 5.2 per cent as part of a broad rally for homebuilders and others in the housing industry. Lower rates could make mortgages cheaper to get, which could spur more buying. The cryptocurrency exchange company Bullish ended its debut day of trading after an initial public offering of more than USD 10 billion with a gain of nearly 84 per cent to USD 68 a share. The hopes for lower interest rates are helping to drown out criticism that the US stock market has broadly grown too expensive after its big leap since hitting a low in April. President Donald Trump has angrily been calling for cuts to help the economy, often insulting the Fed Chair Jerome Powell while doing so. But the Fed has hesitated of the possibility that Trump's sweeping higher tariffs could make inflation much worse. Fed officials have said they want to see more fresh data about inflation before moving. On Thursday, a report will show how bad inflation was at the wholesale level across the United States. Economists expect it to show inflation accelerated a touch to 2.4 per cent in July from 2.3 per cent in June. In other dealings early Thursday, US benchmark crude rose 24 cents to USD 62.89 per barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, added 27 cents to USD 65.90 per barrel. Generative AI set to improve banking operations in India by 46%: RBI Report

New Delhi [India], August 14 (ANI): Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve banking operations in India by up to 46 per cent, according to a report by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The central bank noted that AI can help financial institutions better understand customer behaviour, improve efficiency, and offer more personalised services at scale. It stated, "GenAI is poised to improve banking operations in India by up to 46 per cent". The report said AI is increasingly being adopted across the financial services sector. This adoption is being driven by multiple needs, including enhancing customer experience, improving employee productivity, increasing revenue, reducing operational costs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling the creation of new and innovative products. As per report, Generative AI, in particular, is playing a major role by using advanced analytics to help institutions understand customer behaviour, manage risks more effectively, and control costs. AI-powered alternative credit scoring models are also helping expand credit access to people who are underserved by the traditional banking system. RBI also stated that in India, where millions of people still do not have access to formal banking, AI can help assess the creditworthiness of potential borrowers using non-traditional data sources. These may include information such as utility bill payments, mobile usage patterns, GST filings, or e-commerce transactions. Such technology can help bring "thin-file" or "new-to-credit" customers into the formal financial system. The report also pointed out that AI chatbots are transforming customer service by handling routine queries around the clock, providing faster resolutions, and freeing up human staff for more complex tasks. Globally, the adoption of AI in financial services has been growing rapidly. The RBI report said that AI is expected to directly contribute to revenue growth for the industry in the coming years. The generative AI segment alone is projected to exceed ₹ 1.02 lakh crore (about USD 12 billion) by 2033, growing at an annual rate of 28-34 per cent. The findings highlighted that with proper use, AI can make banking in India more efficient, inclusive, and customer-friendly while driving strong growth for the sector. (ANI)
