Hill-Murray beats Edina in 2OT to claim Class 2A girls hockey state title
Senior Ella Hornung scored the game-winning goal on a deflection in double overtime, securing the Class 2A girls hockey state championship for Hill-Murray in thrilling fashion against powerhouse Edina on Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.
Edina had beaten Hill-Murray in last year's state title game for their fifth 2A championship in the last eight years. This time, the Pioneers — who had lost twice to the Hornets during the regular season — got revenge with a 5-4 victory.
Just over two minutes into the second overtime period, Hornung deflected a shot from Addy McLay past Edina goalie Reese McConnell, sending Hill-Murray into frenzied celebration. It's the program's first state title since 2015.
The Pioneers had forced overtime with a game-tying snipe on the power play from sophomore Elliana Engelhardt with 3:41 left in regulation.
Eighth-grade Hill-Murray goalie Piper Tam made 24 saves in the win. Edina's Cate McCoy scored two goals, and St. Thomas-bound senior Whitney Horton put the Hornets up 4-3 with just over a second left in the second period. But Hill-Murray rallied, with Tam shutting out Edina in the third period and first OT.
Hill-Murray was the No. 3 seed in the tournament and had advanced with a win over Rosemount in the semifinals. Top-seeded Edina beat Holy Family in the other semi. Earlier on Saturday, Holy Family beat Rosemount 4-2 in the third-place game.

Bayer Leverkusen make crucial transfer decision amid Jack Grealish interest
Bayer Leverkusen have rethought their stance on Manchester City's James McAtee as they hunt for a replacement for Liverpool-bound Florian Wirtz, as per a new report. Wirtz is nearing the completion of a sensational move to Anfield as negotiations progress to an advanced stage between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen, who have received an improved £113 million offer for the 22-year-old after turning down an opening bid from Merseyside. Advertisement Liverpool are understood to have agreed personal terms with Wirtz that will see the Germany international sign a long-term contract with the Premier League champions, who won the league title in Arne Slot's debut campaign in England last term. Leverkusen are poised to cashing in on Wirtz and are actively searching for a suitable replacement for the attacking midfielder, with a long-standing interest in Manchester City star and England U-21 international James McAtee. McAtee's Manchester City future was put in further doubt as the 22-year-old has chosen to captain his National Team at the U-21 European Championship and turned down a chance to represent his boyhood club at the FIFA Club World Cup. Advertisement The Salford-born star struggled for regular game time last season and despite a much greater look into the first-team after March, there is little evidence to suggest McAtee will realise his true potential under Pep Guardiola. With 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, McAtee wants a permanent transfer to start fresh and progress his career and Manchester City will be looking for a market fee for another product of their academy. Bayer Leverkusen have held a long-standing interest in McAtee and it is understood that the German outfit have held direct talks with Manchester City over the attacking midfielder, who is very attracted by the prospect of moving to Germany for next season. However, Bild are reporting that Leverkusen have withdrawn their interest in McAtee and are focusing on alternative targets as they prepare for life without Florian Wirtz and look to spend the incoming transfer fee for their best player, as relayed by Get Football News Germany. Advertisement Manchester City's €20 million valuation has put off Leverkusen, who are exited the race to sign McAtee, who has also attracted interest from Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart. It is worth noting that City are likely to prefer to sell McAtee to a foreign club. Cole Palmer joined Chelsea for £40 million in 2023 and has turned himself into one of the best forwards in Europe after two outstanding seasons in west London. City have frequently sold academy and bit-part players to their direct Premier League rivals and it has come back to bite them. Jack Grealish has also recently been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen and incoming manager Erik ten Hag is believed to have conveyed his desire of signing the 29-year-old England international to replace Wirtz, with Manchester City set to demand £50 million for their record signing this summer.

Iowa baseball reveals 2026 Big Ten schedule
Iowa baseball reveals 2026 Big Ten schedule As Iowa baseball continues its long and winding offseason, the program announced its Big Ten schedule for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, which includes some familiar foes and a few new opponents. Headlining next season's conference schedule are two consecutive road series to open up the slate of games, with the Hawkeyes traveling to State College, Penn., for a three-game series March 13-15 vs. Penn State and then visiting East Lansing, Mich., for another three-game set March 20-22, against Michigan State. Following the two road trips, Iowa returns to Duane Banks Field for two consecutive series, with the first being against 2025 College World Series-bound UCLA from March 27-29 and the second against Minnesota from April 3-5. For the Bruins, it will be the first time the storied program has traveled to Iowa City and the first three-game series between the two. Last season's Big Ten Tournament Semifinal between the Hawkeyes and Bruins was the first-ever meeting between both programs, with UCLA winning 9-3. After the Minnesota series, the Hawkeyes' Big Ten schedule alternates between home and away series for the remainder of the season. Iowa's remaining series on the road will be vs. USC (April 10-12), vs. Indiana (April 24-26), and Nebraska (May 8-10). Of note in those road series is the trip to Los Angeles, Calif., vs. USC, which will be the Hawkeyes' sixth-ever game against the Trojans (USC holds a 3-2 all-time series lead). Conversely, the remaining Hawkeyes' home series will be vs. Maryland (April 17-19), vs. Illinois (May 1-3), and vs. Purdue (May 14-16). While Iowa's conference strength of schedule is yet to be determined, seven of the ten opponents the Hawkeyes face next year made the 2025 Big Ten Tournament, and three qualified for the NCAA Tournament. With the full 2026 slate still in the works, including non-conference dates and opponents, the complete schedule will be released at a later date. Soul-Bound: Rodgers Looked Inward for Steelers Signing
Soul-Bound: Rodgers Looked Inward for Steelers Signing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. At long last, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a starting quarterback. The ink is dry on veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers' one-year, $13.7 million deal, vaulting him to the top of the depth chart and boosting Pittsburgh's playoff odds. Advertisement On Monday, he got to know some of his teammates at defensive end Cam Heyward's charity golf event. A day later, he spoke to reporters for the first time at Steelers minicamp. In doing so, he gave the Pittsburgh faithful everything they had been waiting for. He was vague about his decision-making process, revealed that he was married, and generated some excitement about the team's chances. Perhaps the most interesting tidbit of Rodgers' comments was his introspection. Rodgers said his soul led him to sign with the Steelers, rather than his ego. 'A lot of decisions that I've made over my career and in life from strictly the ego, even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling. This is a decision that was best for my soul,' Rodgers said, via Nick Farabaugh. 'I just want to have fun here. I want to enjoy the game. The game has given me a ton. It's hard to think of anything in my life that's positive that wasn't impacted by, directly or indirectly, my playing this game.' Advertisement It has long been the expectation that Rodgers would come to an agreement with Pittsburgh. Still, it's a relief for fans who had been uneasy about the situation under center. It seems that offensive coordinator Arthur Smith had known this was coming, building his offense around the Canton-bound passer earlier in the offseason. Rodgers is obviously an upgrade and helps the Steelers in the immediate future. His impact could very well linger well past his farewell tour. 'I just want to give back to the game, enjoy it, pass on my knowledge to my teammates, and try to find ways to help lead the team,' Rodgers said. Sixth-round rookie passer Will Howard has the most to gain from Rodgers' signing, although it rules out 2025 playing time. With two decades of experience entering the room, Pittsburgh is better prepared to take on the challenges of today and tomorrow. The headlines and controversies might be inevitable, but the Steelers know what they've signed up for. In the meantime, Pittsburgh is happy Rodgers has arrived, regardless of how he came to his decision. Advertisement Related: How Much Are the Steelers Paying Aaron Rodgers?
