Edina golf's Ohe brothers growing together on the green

Pick a tee, and start swinging. That's most days for Torger and Sander Ohe. "You know as he was getting better, he was getting taller, I was pretty small," said Sander Ohe, a junior at Edina High School. "And then to be able to catch up ... still a little bit behind. But yeah, it's been really fun." The brothers have grown up together on the course. When Torger Ohe won state last year as a junior, his brother, a year younger, was there to celebrate. "Probably not quite as emotional for me as my parents, but I was pretty excited," remembered Sander Ohe. "Pretty nervous. But it was a lot of fun." WCCO Torger Ohe recently committed to play college golf at the University of Minnesota. He also made it through the first round of qualifying for this year's U.S. Open. The senior has established himself as one of the best prep players in the state. "COVID really helped me out. Gave me a lot of time to practice golf and get better at it," said Torger Ohe. "I think that's when I started to realize I could maybe play in college. That was one of my goals." Sander Ohe is high up in the rankings, too. The duo have similar games and an expected dialogue. "In the past, I think Torger's been quite a bit past me off the tee, with driver and all that. But I'm catching up a little bit," laughed Sander Ohe. "He (Torger) likes to think not." When it comes down to it, there's room to give on both sides. A special relationship, developed one shot at a time. "He does have a little bit better short game than me. So gotta work on that a little bit," said Torger Ohe. "But it's just real fun to compete with him. He's like my best friend. So it's just fun to spend a lot of time with him."

St. Paul man sentenced for robbing Twin Cities postal workers at gunpoint

A St. Paul man who pleaded guilty to robbing two Twin Cities postal workers at gunpoint has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison. Rubin Adams entered guilty pleas for two counts of armed robbery of a mail carrier in December. On Thursday, a judge handed down concurrent sentences of 132 months in prison and five years of supervised release for each count, according to court records. One count each of theft of postal service keys and mail theft against Adams were dropped. Prosecutors said Adams robbed mail carriers in Edina and Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, on Nov. 18 and Nov. 19, 2023, brandishing a gun and demanding mailbox keys in each instance. Authorities tied Adams to the robberies using surveillance footage, cellphone data, social media videos and a GPS-enabled ankle monitor he was wearing due to charges in Georgia. The judge also ordered Adams to pay nearly $78,000 in restitution.

Ngahiwi and Haami have served for the same number of years on the board. It was an emotional, fun filled afternoon as speakers shared fond memories of their time with Uncle Haami. Special gifts were exchanged and heartfelt words expressed. The following phrase was offered by Jeremy Tātere Macleod and was written on his special photo frame presented to Uncle Haami. Although the path ahead is short, the one behind is long; indeed, we have reached the lands of Tura – and yet, memory will endure. Our love for you both is as vast as the sky, as deep as the ocean, and as long as the horizon. Wise words from our beautiful Whaea Liz Hunkin, 'It's time to rest'. Health and Wellbeing, time with whānau, are always the most important things we need to serve.

Interstate 494 closure slated for this weekend in Bloomington-Richfield area

Both directions of Interstate 494 between Minnesota highways 100 and 77 will be closed Friday, May 30, through Monday morning, June 2, for bridge work, state transportation officials said. Before the freeway is shut down at 10 p.m. Friday, all ramps along the route will close at 8 p.m. The freeway will open again at 5 a.m. Monday. The closure is due to construction of a pedestrian bridge over I-494 near Chicago Avenue and the removal of the Portland Avenue bridge for reconstruction, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Motorists will be directed to Minnesota 62 via 100 and 77 as a detour. Kavyon Madison pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in February. A judge handed him a 403-month sentence on Friday, according to court records, an upward departure from the presumptive sentence of 306 months. According to court documents, Madison was caught on camera shooting 23-year-old Darien Roberson outside a strip mall in Edina, Minnesota, on Dec. 2, 2023. Madison and others were celebrating a birthday at a restaurant in the strip mall. As some of them were leaving, Madison made comments about Roberson's deceased friend, which started an argument, a criminal complaint said. Roberson died at the scene.
