NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ontario, June 30, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Southbrook Organic Vineyards , Canada's leader in organic and regenerative winemaking, hosts a special event Sunday, July 6, featuring Team Canada's Bocuse d'Or candidate Chef Keith Pears , a Chopped Canada champion and Gold Medal Plates winner, alongside founder Bill Redelmeier. The event marks the premiere of Ode to Niagara , Southbrook's new mini-documentary celebrating the Niagara region and its terroir.
'Food is the most basic need, and the most important,' said Redelmeier, founder of Southbrook and longtime regenerative farmer. 'Without food, we cannot survive, and without healthy soil we cannot produce it.'
Produced by Southbrook, the short film explores how healthy soil is crucial to food sovereignty, sustainability, and community. It's part of the winery's broader commitment to regenerative agriculture and food sovereignty, which includes its Summer of Sustainability event series. (A media preview of the mini-doc is available. Details below.)
'For years, we have mined the soil without paying attention to its health. What we do….farming sustainably, organically, biodynamically and regeneratively provides a roadmap towards a brighter future,' added Redelmeier.
While national momentum for local food is rising with 53.5% of Gen Z Canadians now saying they 'always' or 'often' buy local, only 3.3% of Canadian farmland is certified organic, and even fewer hold Regenerative Organic Certified® status, as Southbrook does.

Mom Finds Photo Taken During Labor—No One Prepared for What It Shows

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A Canadian mom-to-be rediscovered a photo of herself she had captured during labor, but no one could guess what it showed. Katelyn Eagleson (@kate_eagleson) from Vernon, British Columbia, shared online how she went into labor on Halloween dressed head-to-toe as the Grinch—green makeup, Santa suit and even holding an onion. Eagleson revealed her full costume mid-labor, lying in a hospital bed in a post on TikTok. The text overlay reads: "Wheeled in in a full Santa suit too because I was trying to steal Christmas." Eagleson, who was 19 at the time, told Newsweek she was inspired to share the pictures because of a TikTok trend called "late night finds." From left: Katelyn Eagleson takes a photo of herself in a mirror; and lays dressed as The Grinch wearing a hospital gown. @kate_eagleson The labor itself began in the most-unexpected way. Eagleson was in the middle of trick-or-treating with her brother, Samuel, when she started contractions. She called her husband, Colton Eagleson, who dropped Samuel at home and then drove to the hospital. That is when the hilarity began. "It was really hard for me to walk, so my husband grabbed me a wheelchair, and I wheeled into the emergency room in full costume," Katelyn said. "We couldn't stop laughing because I was dressed up, and other people in the ER started laughing, too." Her due date wasn't until November 28, nearly a month away, so Katelyn was shocked to be heading into labor. Nurses at Vernon Jubilee Hospital in British Columbia were equally surprised—and amused. "They tried not to, but I couldn't stop laughing, and I told them they were absolutely allowed to because it made me feel more comfortable and made the experience more fun," Katelyn said. She even let the nurses take pictures, and one snapped her laughing through a contraction while trying to smile for the camera. Katelyn's post has over 7.1 million views and a further 1.1 million likes. Over 8,200 users couldn't cope with the mom's story in the comments. "I think you had an original experience," one user posted. "And then imagine the face while pushing for the baby omg [oh my God]," another added. Katelyn was admitted at 4 centimeters dilated and remained in labor for 18 days of contractions before giving birth to her daughter, Olivia Eagleson, on November 18. "By then, I was not in Grinch makeup," Katelyn added. TikTok users agree Katelyn's labor wasn't as she imagined, but will have a lasting impact. As a third TikTok user put it, "Trying to steal Christmas, but ended up stealing our hearts."

Prince William, Kate Middleton's Move Forces Families Out of Homes

There's even more drama when it comes to Kate Middleton and Prince William's upcoming move to Forest Lodge. To catch everyone up, rumor has it that Kate and William are ditching their relatively new home, Adelaide Cottage, for what's essentially a giant mansion in Great Windsor Park. And on top of reports that King Charles is "fuming" at the couple's move thanks to how expensive it'll be, there's drama due to the move forcing multiple families out of their homes. According to the Daily Mail, two families who live in nearby cottages were asked to "vacate their properties." Their homes were originally stables for the lodge, and were rented out by the Crown Estate—meaning the royals are essentially evicting the families. As for their reaction, apparently everyone was "surprised" to hear the news, and have relocated to "similar or better" housing elsewhere in Great Windsor Park. Per a source, "They were told to move out. I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move. They were not expecting it. Those houses are very close to the lodge, so they're not going to want any Tom, Dick or Harry living in those houses if there are going to be royals there." The Daily Mail notes that Forest Lodge has been a "hive of activity" lately, with builders, privacy screens, and "new shrubs being planted in its grounds." They also report that William and Kate are paying for the move themselves. As a reminder, the couple were initially reported to be moving to Fort Belvedere, but it's allegedly been leased to a Canadian billionaire who renewed their contract earlier this year, meaning Kate and William were fresh outta luck.

Why Prince William Won't Live in Buckingham Palace as King

Prince William and Kate Middleton are planning a move to Forest Lodge in Great Windsor Park, a slight pivot amid initial reports claiming they were moving to Fort Belvedere (which, turns out, is being leased by a Canadian billionaire's family). Apparently, the couple view Forest Lodge—which is currently being renovated—as their "forever home." Meaning, Prince William will live there even when he's crowned King, following in his dad's footsteps and ditching Buckingham Palace. According to a source in the Daily Mail, William's 'intention' is to remain in Forest Lodge even after he's crowned. As they put it, "This is for the long term and it's their intention to stay in Forest Lodge once he becomes king." Another insider added that "They want to continue to do the school run, even if they are king and queen," while yet another source noted that "It's a fresh start for them after three really tough years. They are looking forward to creating many happy memories in their new home and leaving some of the unhappier ones behind." As for when William and Kate are moving to Forest Lodge, apparently they're eying Christmas. Builders have already been seen around the property working with "privacy screens," and landscapers have planted new shrubs. So it's all happening! And by "it's all happening," we mean multiple families have had to vacate their homes to accommodate William and Kate's move—more on that saga below.
