DDAs third ‘Aarambh' Library opens in Dwarka
PTI
New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) To provide a safe environment for students to study, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) opened its third 'Aarambh Library' at Dwarka Sector 16-B on Monday, according to an official statement.
This marks the third library in the Aarambh series, launched as a part of a transformative initiative following the tragic July 2024 incident in Rajinder Nagar, where three civil service aspirants lost their lives in flooded basement reading rooms.
'These students were studying in the library when the basement was flooded and they lost their lives. Nothing can be more tragic than this. I went there immediately and assured the students who were on strike that it would be my endeavor to provide the best facilities to the students," LG VK Saxena said during the inauguration of the library.
I am happy that within a year, we are inaugurating the third library for them, he added.
According to the DDA, the Aarambh initiative aims to provide students with safe, affordable, and modern study spaces across the national capital.
'The newly opened Aarambh library in Dwarka is housed in a repurposed community hall and features state-of-the-art facilities," the DDA said in the statement.
The library offers a seating capacity for around 200 students, divided into three 8-hour daily shifts with a nominal charge of Rs 1,000 per per month, it added.
The library operates round-the-clock, ensuring accessibility for students, researchers, and lifelong learners.
Saxena emphasized the government's commitment to providing students with 'excellent, safe, and affordable facilities" to support their future.
'The Aarambh initiative is part of efforts to create inclusive and quality educational infrastructure in Delhi. I am of the firm view that creating adequate infrastructure can best prevent tragedies and loss of human lives," Saxena added.
Since the launch of the first Aarambh Library at Old Rajinder Nagar in January 2025, which has already doubled its capacity, and the second at Adhchini Village in July 2025, the DDA plans to expand the network further with upcoming branches in Vikaspuri and Rohini. PTI SSM SSM NB NB

Venkatesh Naidu in spotlight as cash bundle videos go viral
Tirupati: Cherukuru Venkatesh Naidu, already known to the public as a key figure in the ongoing liquor scam probe, is once again in the spotlight after fresh videos and photographs surfaced on Sunday, revealing details of his luxurious lifestyle. Venkatesh, named as Accused No 34 (A-34) in the case, was earlier seen in a now-viral video counting currency bundles reportedly worth Rs 35 crore, suspected to be part of the liquor scam proceeds. The cash was seen stacked in large bundles, including Rs 2,000 denomination notes, and was discovered during the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry. In the latest development, visuals have emerged showing Venkatesh Naidu travelling in a private jet, mingling with film actors, and moving around in high-end cars. One video shows him arriving at an airport in a luxury vehicle and walking straight onto the runway to board a private aircraft. Upon landing, he was seen getting into a car fitted with a red beacon, which is typically reserved for VIP protocol, hinting at the level of influence and access he enjoyed. The videos have since gone viral on social media, with the public reacting sharply, asking, 'Is this how they enjoyed the liquor money looted from the people?' Earlier, SIT had uncovered a video during the investigation showing Naidu managing a cash stash at a safe house, allegedly acting as the in-charge of the location where the scam money was stored. In the video, he was seen counting the bundles and preparing them for distribution. The latest leak of his videos and photos further illustrates the extravagant lifestyle funded through alleged illegal proceeds. Surprisingly, it was learnt that the video was found in Venkatesh's mobile phone itself. SIT sources confirmed that Venkatesh Naidu is a close aide of YSRCP senior leader and former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. The two are believed to share an inseparable political association. During the 2024 general elections, Chevireddy contested from the Ongole Lok Sabha constituency as YSRCP candidate, and Venkatesh Naidu filed a nomination as an independent from the same seat. Though his nomination was later rejected it was widely felt that he filed it as a dummy for Chevireddy. SIT has noted that Chevireddy remained in constant contact with Naidu throughout the process and was actively involved in directing the movement and delivery of scam-related funds. Investigators have concluded that Naidu played a crucial role in ensuring that the money was transported and handed over as per Chevireddy's instructions. Venkatesh was said to have born in Nandyal and educated in Hyderabad, while his background has drawn renewed attention. Despite his apparent access to vast sums of money, Naidu in his 2024 election affidavit declared an annual income of only Rs 4.95 lakh for the financial year 2022–23. He reported assets worth Rs 10.70 lakh, including bank balances and cash, and claimed he owned no immovable property. The sharp contrast between his declared financial status and the opulence seen in the videos has sparked widespread outrage online. The revelations have intensified public scrutiny of the liquor scam and its political connections, as well as raised further questions about how such levels of luxury and access were possible for someone with officially modest means. The SIT continues to examine the deeper network behind the scandal.

Union Minister urges CM to raise wages of mid-day meal cooks
New Delhi/Hyderabad: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has formally urged Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to increase the wages of mid-day meal cooks working in government schools across the state. In a letter written on Monday, Pradhan emphasized the importance of implementing the guidelines laid out under the Prime Minister Poshan Abhiyan. According to UMoSHA, the request follows a recent meeting between union leaders representing Telangana's mid-day meal cooks and senior central ministers, including Pradhan and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in New Delhi. During the meeting, union representatives submitted a petition calling for a hike in their honorarium and greater social security. Responding to concerns over pending Central funds, Pradhan clarified that all dues from the Centre had been cleared. He assured the delegation that he would take up the matter with the state government and push for the sanctioning of any outstanding bills. Pradhan further recommended an increase in the monthly honorarium to Rs 17,000, along with the provision of ESI and PF benefits under applicable labor laws. 'It is vital that the dignity and rights of these essential workers be upheld,' he noted in the communication. The letter comes at a time when midday meal workers across the state have voiced growing concerns over low wages and lack of formal protections, despite playing a crucial role in the welfare of school children.
