An IMD official said, "While Pune ghats have a heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast and an orange alert for the next few days, Pune city can expect only light to moderate rainfall."
The differential rainfall pattern reflected the typical monsoon behaviour in the region, where the Western Ghats act as a barrier, causing orographic precipitation in the windward areas while leaving the leeward regions with comparatively lighter showers.
