Chandigarh: Monsoon officially arrived in Chandigarh today with scattered rains during the day. It typically arrives in Chandigarh around the later/end days of June. Weathermen said there is no fixed date for the arrival of the monsoon in June.
It is expected to be an above-normal monsoon for about four months until September.
Chandigarh experienced changing weather conditions over the past 24 hours, with light to moderate rainfall recorded in different parts of the city. Some isolated pockets even witnessed heavy rain and thunderstorm activity, bringing temporary relief from the previous spell of heat and humidity.
According to the city meteorological department, the temperatures in the city showed a noticeable drop.
The maximum temperature today settled at around 31°C, which is significantly below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27°C, keeping the overall weather relatively pleasant despite intermittent humidity.

New Delhi: The southwest monsoon has advanced further, covering parts of western Uttar Pradesh. The weather department has made a fresh forecast that the monsoon is expected to hit the city in the next 36 hours. "The southwest monsoon has further advanced over the remaining parts of the north Arabian Sea, some more parts of west Uttar Pradesh, some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, remaining parts of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, and some more parts of Punjab. The northern limit continues to pass through Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, Rampur, Bijnor, Karnal and Halwara. The IMD had earlier forecast that while the entire country is expected to receive above-normal rainfall, the northwest, which is one of the four meteorological geographical regions and includes J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and UP, will receive normal rainfall. The normal range is 92 to 108% of the long-period average. Last year, the monsoon arrived in Delhi on June 25, and the city got 228.1mm rainfall on a single day, which was the highest single-day precipitation for June since 1936.
