This Florida Beach Has the Highest Bacteria Rates in the State

Not every beach or waterway in Florida is a pristine stretch of white beach. One stretch of water in Miami is officially dirty.
The SurfRider foundation released their rankings of the top "Beach Bacteria Hot Spots" in the U.S., and it has declared Park View Kayak Launch in Miami Beach, Florida, as a bacteria hot spot, ranked at 90 percent. The water is highly polluted, making it unsafe for swimming. The Beach Bacteria Hot Spots that are ranked represent a variety of recreational waters, beaches, and access points that are important to local communities, but threaten public health.
During 2024, SurfRider's Blue Water Task Force processed more than 10 thousand water samples from 604 sampling sites to determine which spots had unsafe levels of bacteria. The organization works to inform communities about public health, as well as advocate for the protection and clean-up of heavily polluted beaches. The Blue Water Task Force works year-round to provide public health protection even during the off-season when water samples generally are not being collected.
The problem at Park View Kayak Launch began when a sewer main broke in March 2020, flooding the water with pollution. Usually, pollution from a sewer main break only lasts for a few days, but for many reasons, including outdated infrastructure, the pollution has persisted at Park View Kaway Launch for years. The city has an action plan to address the issue, but despite efforts, the water continues to have unsafe levels of sewage in it.
'The Park View Canal "no contact with the water" advisory remains in place for the area adjacent to the kayak launch at 73 Street. Water sampling results continue to show a fecal indicator bacteria concentration that exceeds recreational water quality standards established by the Florida Department of Health,' the Miami Beach website states. Visitors to Miami should be aware of the 'no contact' order and avoid getting too close to the sewage-polluted water, as it could be deleterious for health until the waterway is sufficiently cleaned.
'At Surfrider, we believe everyone should have access to clean water to surf, swim, and play in. Improving coastal water quality has been one of our top priorities since the Surfrider Foundation was founded in 1984,' the SurfRider website states.

SPS one of 16 school districts awarded funds to fight opioid abuse

The Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board awarded cities, counties and school districts with $16.6 million to help address the state's opioid crisis, according to a press release by Attorney General Gentner Drummond Wednesday. Stillwater Public Schools made the list, along with 15 other school districts in Oklahoma. The school districts received $3.7 million in total. The funding also went to 31 cities, counties and public trusts (with some of those being joint applications), with a total of $12.9 million. The State Treasury uses a revolving fund for the Office of the Attorney General to disperse the monies. 'These grants represent Oklahoma's commitment to fighting the opioid epidemic at every level, from our communities to our classrooms,' said Attorney General Gentner Drummond, who chairs the board. 'We believe these dollars will provide the tools needed to save lives and strengthen communities across our state.' The release said the grants 'will fund treatment and recovery programs, mental health assistance, opioid abuse education and strategies to decrease the supply of narcotics across the state.' SPS received $75,000 in grant funds from the Opioid Abatement Grant Act last school year, which it planned to use to supplement existing programs in prevention and mental health, provide expanded substance abuse screenings, offer more treatment with agencies who provide services both inside and outside of the school district and foster community engagement. Kira Frisby, the wellness and trauma emergency response coordinator for the SPS district, wrote the 2024 grant with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Grant Coordinator Lindy Zamborsky and Substance Abuse Counselor Rachel Roberts. Frisby, who is a registered nurse and a mental health nurse, previously told the News Press the two most alarming trends she's seen in the past 15 years are negative social media usage and vaping/THC. She said the increase in medical marijuana dispensaries has given more access to students who may not understand how to properly control its use. 'The impact that THC in this very high potency has on the youth is really concerning,' Frisby said. 'None of this is to provide judgment or shame for parents and caregivers; it's truly just to educate them on how dangerous these things can be to developing minds. … Any type of education is key.'

That's some serious brownnosing. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, a longtime fitness freak, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, a former Army infantry officer, have credited President Donald Trump as their inspiration to get 'fit, not fat.' Kennedy, 71, challenged Hegseth, 45, to a fitness challenge on Monday that required them to rush to complete 50 pullups and 100 pushups in less than 10 minutes.

Alex Jones Warns Trump's Cankles ‘Collapse' Is Imminent

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is sounding alarm about what he dubbed Donald Trump's health 'crisis'—and the consequences the 79-year-old president faces if he 'doesn't take his foot off the gas pedal.' The Infowars host pleaded Wednesday, the day after Trump's comments about 'heaven' intensified concerns about his condition, that 'if the people around him could just get him to take off one day a week—if he could just go play golf and watch movies and have some fun—he deserves it.' But 'at the current trajectory,' he warned, the president 'is going to have some sort of collapse within the next 12 months.' Trump is like a 'light bulb starting to go out,' Jones went on. 'I've seen a lot of signs of Trump declining,' he said. 'And so he's on a lot of the time, but like a light bulb is starting to go out. It gets brighter, it gets dim; it goes in and out.' Jones also pointed to the president's chronic venous insufficiency, which isn't linked to cognitive abilities but does cause blood circulation issues and—in Trump's case—swollen ankles. 'That's not a good sign for the heart and the rest of the body, because the rest of him—he's lost weight, he's not that fat,' Jones said. 'For everybody that you've known that's having heart problems, that's not good right there, okay? And they're getting bigger and bigger.' Trump is also working too long during the day, according to Jones. 'I know we have a crisis," he said. 'He's hyper-competitive and hyper-aggressive. So, you talk about in the zone, folks. It's fair to say that Trump is unconscious, basically, for periods of the day now,' he continued. 'Because there are times where I'm exhausted and working entirely on adrenaline, up for two days, and I make pretty good decisions—sometimes better than when I'm conscious—but I think back and I don't remember what I did.' Jones then said Trump performing well at diplomatic events is because 'it's 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock in the afternoon.' 'But you can watch the decline into the evening, and then also these morning interviews,' he said. 'So it's late at night, he sounds like he's drunk. He doesn't drink, obviously. He's exhausted. And then it is early in the morning, he doesn't sound too hot.' During a Fox & Friends call-in Tuesday morning, for instance, Trump seemed unable to name the ocean that separates the U.S. from Europe and Russia. 'And this is just one of many things I've been hearing and seeing him do that send up red flags,' Jones said. When reached for comment, the White House responded to the Daily Beast with a statement not from the current physician to the President, Sean Barbabella, but from Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson, who served in that role from 2013 to 2018 and once asserted that Trump might have lived to be '200 years old' had he had a better diet over the past two decades. 'As President Trump's former personal physician, former Physician to the President, and White House physician for 14 years across three administrations, I can tell you unequivocally: President Donald J. Trump is the healthiest president this nation has ever seen,' the Republican congressman said. 'I continue to consult with his current physician and medical team at the White House and still spend significant time with the President. He is mentally and physically sharper than ever before.'
