Town planning officer pleads not guilty to false claim charge
Nazri KOTA KINABALU (June 11): A town planning officer pleaded not guilty at the Special Corruption Court on Wednesday to submitting a false claim amounting to RM19,100. Nazri Hamburg, 45, from the Sabah Town and Country Planning Department, was charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(2) of the same act. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of at least five times the fraudulent amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher. The charge alleges that Nazri submitted a false claim form dated June 12, 2017, to a finance administrative assistant in his department. The document included Bill No. 171021 for the delivery of a car and a pick-up truck, along with labour charges for moving goods — totalling RM19,100. Investigators found that no such services were rendered. Judge Jason Juga set July 10 for pre-trial case management and granted Nazri RM10,000 bail with a RM5,000 deposit under one local surety. The court also ordered him to report monthly to the MACC office and surrender his passport, if any. Counsel Hannan Razaini represented the accused.

Depay kept ‘hungry' after equalling van Persie's scoring record
Memphis Depay has 50 goals in 102 international appearances for the Netherlands. (EPA Images pic) GRONINGEN : Memphis Depay was denied the chance to complete a hattrick today, and take sole possession of the Dutch national team's all-time scoring record in the process, as coach Ronald Koeman said he wanted to keep him hungry for goals. Forward Depay scored twice inside the opening 16 minutes of the Netherlands' 8-0 win over Malta in a World Cup qualifier to equal Robin van Persie's record of 50. Both players have 50 goals in 102 international appearances. 'I equalled van Persie, I am happy with that,' said Depay, who was taken off in the 72nd minute with the Dutch 4-0 up. 'But this is just an interim total. Of course I am also going for 51, 52 and also 53. If I had played longer, I might have scored one more tonight,' he told reporters. 'I didn't say anything about the fact that the coach took me off early. I was already happy that I could do what I've been doing for years… scoring.' Depay scored his first international goal against Australia at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but it has not always been smooth sailing over the years with the national team. 'We have had some turbulence over the years,' he said. 'There have been many coaches and many players have come and gone. The times have shaped me and made me realise what I want. 'Ultimately, it's important that we're at the World Cup and that we go far.' Koeman has consistently backed Depay over his two spells in charge of the Dutch, even when he struggled with his club form. 'I've always thought Memphis is a great player. I think he deserves a great compliment. He's had a year full of injuries, but he's fit and hungry now,' said Koeman. 'It's great that he didn't score the third, because then he stays hungry,' he quipped on Dutch television.

Former international school staff claims trial to cheating, CBT involving over RM142,000
KUALA LUMPUR: A former employee of an international school pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to three charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM142,354.10 belonging to the school. A. Komala, 33, who served as a parent liaison executive and personal assistant at the time, is accused of misappropriating the sum for personal use at the school located in Persiaran Stonor, Dang Wangi, between June 11 and 28 last year. She was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction. Komala also faces two counts of cheating two Japanese men by deceiving them into believing that the school fee invoices she issued for their children were legitimate. The alleged deception prompted the victims to transfer RM94,509 and RM47,845.10 respectively into a bank account under a company owned by the accused's husband — payments they would not have made had they not been misled. The offences were allegedly committed at the same place and during the same period. The cheating charges were framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Noor Syafina Mohd Radzuan proposed bail at RM30,000 with one surety for all charges, while defence counsel Kelvinder Singh Sindhu appealed for a lower amount, citing that the accused is financially supporting her family. Judge Azrul Darus allowed bail at RM30,000 with one surety and set July 15 for mention.
