OpenAI goes after Google Docs, Microsoft's Word for web with new ChatGPT features
OpenAI has developed features that let people collaborate on documents and communicate via chat in ChatGPT, The Information reported, citing two people who have seen the designs.Designs for collaboration features suggest OpenAI could even consider developing related productivity features such as file storage, the report said.
These features compete with rival Google's Docs and Word for the web by Microsoft, OpenAI's biggest shareholder and business partner.
OpenAI has already eaten into traffic for Google's flagship Search, with ChatGPT becoming popular for web searches. Google recently rolled out its 'AI Mode' for Search in India, after announcing the feature during its I/O event last month. The feature employs Gemini 2.5 to improve Google search results and experience.
Meanwhile, the AI major has been hurting business for Microsoft's Copilot AI with its ChatGPT Enterprise, Bloomberg reported. The two tech companies also compete for customers of AI coding assistants and AI models accessed via application programming interface (API) by more advanced developers. Notably, Microsoft's multibillion investments in OpenAI were crucial in making the latter a forerunner in the AI space.
It's still not clear if OpenAI will release these features, The Information reported. But in the event it does, it will open a new front in the rivalry with Google, and further complicate its ties with Microsoft. OpenAI is trying to secure Microsoft's blessings for a restructuring plan for its for-profit unit that oversees ChatGPT. Last week, Financial Times reported that Microsoft is prepared to abandon its high-stakes negotiations with OpenAI over the future of its alliance.

A combination of enterprise AI and document collaboration features would make ChatGPT more attractive for businesses, who prefer productivity bundles like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 for their workforce. OpenAI says it has increasingly generated revenue from ChatGPT Team, and even offered discounts on such subscriptions recently. The company has projected roughly $15 billion in revenue from business subscriptions to ChatGPT in 2030, up from $600 million in revenue in 2024
In the works OpenAI product chief Kevin Weil and other company executives first discussed and showed off designs for the document collaboration feature nearly a year ago, the report said. Not much came of it due to workforce limitations and other priorities. The feature got a second wind in October with OpenAI's Canvas, a ChatGPT feature to draft documents and code with AI. More recently, OpenAI developed but hasn't launched software allowing multiple ChatGPT customers to communicate about their shared work in the app, The Information said.
Last week, OpenAI announced the rollout of ChatGPT Record mode for ChatGPT Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users. The feature, however, has limited utility since ChatGPT doesn't offer file storage or other productivity features.

AI agents and multimodal AI: Next leap in everyday tech
It's 2025, and AI isn't just behind the screen. It's starting to think, plan, and act for us. From managing calendars to diagnosing system errors, AI agents and multimodal AI are quickly becoming the tech world's most talked-about duo. These tools are transforming how we work, live, and interact by processing not just text, but voice, images, and video together in real time. AI agents and multimodal AI AI agents are essentially digital colleagues. They're autonomous software programs that can plan, reason, and complete tasks using different tools. No constant human input needed. They're not just following instructions; they're figuring things out. Multimodal AI gives these agents broader awareness. It allows systems to process and connect inputs from various sources. That means understanding what you type, say, show, or record in one seamless interaction. New capabilities in 2025, like larger context windows, chain-of-thought reasoning, and function calling, are pushing this even further. Transforming consumer and enterprise experiences Let's break this down. Customer service AI agents can now handle support queries without making you repeat yourself three times. They understand context and history, which means more personalized help and quicker resolutions. Virtual assistants? They're no longer just timers and weather forecasters. You can ask them, 'What's this rash on my arm?', send a photo, and get relevant suggestions. They'll even book a dermatologist appointment based on your schedule. At home, smart appliances are syncing with voice and video. They track routines, adapt automatically, and respond with less prompting than ever before. India's own is deploying smart agents across customer support, HR, and internal tools using chat, voice, and email. They don't just cut down wait times, they change how teams work entirely. Meanwhile, Google's Gemini and ChatGPT-4 are leading with unified models that integrate all input types in one engine. That means cleaner deployment, faster responses, and a more natural user experience. Why 2025 is the year of AI agents Industry momentum says it all. Nearly 99% of enterprise AI developers are building or testing AI agents right now. These systems bring autonomy, personalization, and adaptability. They're built to get better the more they're used. When combined with multimodal input, the interaction becomes almost human. You don't just type a command, you interact. You speak, point, send a file, and the AI gets it. And because they're efficient and scalable, they're rolling out fast in sectors like healthcare, finance, retail, and education. Meet your new digital colleague AI agents and multimodal models are already changing how we live and work. They're stepping in as planners, assistants, troubleshooters, and problem-solvers. As the tech improves, they'll only get more intuitive. They're not just a glimpse of the future. They're the beginning of a new kind of digital colleague.

Google's new Gemini Robotics On-Device AI model runs directly on robots: Watch it in action
Google's DeepMind division, on Tuesday, June 24, released a new large language model called Gemini Robotics On-Device that runs locally on robotic devices. In a blog post, Google says that the new AI model has been optimised to efficiently run on the robot and shows 'strong general-purpose dexterity and task generalisation.' The new offline AI model builds on the company's Gemini Robotics model, which the tech giant unveiled earlier this year in March. The Gemini Robotics On-Device model can control a robot's movement and, like ChatGPT, can understand natural language prompts. Since it works without an active internet connection, Google says it is really useful for latency-sensitive applications or in areas where there is zero connectivity. Designed for robots with two arms, Google explains that Gemini Robotics On-Device is engineered in such a way that it requires 'minimal computational resources' and can complete highly dexterous tasks like folding clothes and unzipping bags, to name a few. You can watch the new AI model in action in the video below. Compared to other on-device alternatives, Google claims that Gemini Robotics On-Device outperforms the competition when it comes to completing complex multi-step instructions and challenging out-of-distribution tasks. Coming to the benchmarks, it looks like Google's new offline model comes close to its cloud-based offering. Initially trained for work with ALOHA robots, the company says its new model has been adapted and successfully worked on a bi-arm Franka FR3 robot and an Apollo humanoid as well. The tech giant said that on the bi-arm Franka FR3, the model was able to follow general-purpose instructions and handle previously unseen objects and scenes, like executing industrial belt assembly. As for Apollo, the model was allowed the humanoid robot manipulate different and unseen objects in a general manner. Developers can try out Gemini Robotics On-Device using the software development kit (SDK). Google isn't the only tech giant working on AI models for robots. At GTC 2025, NVIDIA unveiled Groot N1, an AI model for humanoid robots, while Hugging Face is working on developing its very own robot powered by an in-house developed open-sourced model.

Major iCloud Outage Affects Apple Mail And Photos Users Globally
Last Updated: iCloud outage caused apps like Mail and Photos to stop working early morning which had people complaining about their work getting disrupted. iCloud services were majorly affected on Wednesday morning globally which disrupted apps like Apple Mail and Photos. Most of these users shared their issues on social media but the popular tracking platform Downdetector showed us the real magnitude of the outage and which of the services were not available for more than a few hours on early June 25, 2025. The Apple system status page also highlights a host of services, including iCloud and iWork for Cloud, and even Find My were facing issues for over 4 hours. And as of 11:04 AM IST, all these issues are marked in green colour on the system status page by Apple. Most of the users in the US and Europe were impacted by the down time, while we did not see a lot of reports coming from India. The problem with an outage with iCloud is that most users have their data and other services backed up to the network, which means you can't get any mails, you cannot access the Photo library on the iPhone or even Mac, and yes, even the passwords for your important accounts stop working till the issues are fixed. Having all these apps not working early in the morning at work could have most people rejoicing but netizens were clearly not pleased with the duration of the outage and how it affected their lives outside of work. Apple says that iCloud is private and keeps your data secure but if that same service faces outages for more than an hour, operations are affected and people are left scrambling to get their devices working for the important stuff like meetings, mails etc. iCloud isn't the only major service to face an outage recently. OpenAI had to bear ChatGPT going offline for a while earlier this month as well. The AI chatbot was not accessible for thousands primarily affecting the chatbot's core functionality. In India, a staggering 82 percent of reported complaints were directly linked to ChatGPT's inability to respond to queries. Mobile application issues accounted for 14 percent of problems, while four percent of users cited difficulties with API integration. And just like this iCloud issue, the disruption, acknowledged by OpenAI, impacted Sora, the company's text-to-video generation platform, frustrating users who rely on these AI tools for various tasks.
