Demetrious Johnson breaks down what makes Khamzat Chimaev's wrestling so dominant
No one has figured out an answer for Chimaev's wrestling, which he used to outgrapple Kamaru Usman at UFC 294 and quickly run through Robert Whittaker for a first-round submission at UFC 308.
Now Chimaev (14-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) will look to fulfill his championship potential when he challenges middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 319 headliner (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at United Center in Chicago.
Johnson broke down Chimaev's grappling prowess while watching his fights against former champions Usman and Whittaker.
"When you look at Khamzat, you have to look at him when he jumps on you, you better be ready for the best – you better have the best wrestling, anti-wrestling, and fighting skill and ready to rock and roll," Johnson said on his YouTube channel. "Because once he locks on, he's going to be looking to go to that position, which I call home. He's going to sit there and wait and then see what you're going to do.
"Once you start to post, he's going to take out that post, he's going to jump to the other side, take out the other post, get his hooks in, and beat you up until you give him your neck or neck crank, and he's going to take it. That's what he wants to do. He doesn't want to do anything on the feet. If he could, he would wrestle all day, every day."
Oddsmakers favor Chimaev to remain undefeated and dethrone Du Plessis as he is a -180 favorite, according to DraftKings, and even higher on other sports books.

Caleb Williams will get his first preseason playing time in Johnson's offense when Bears host Bills
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson sees the second preseason game as the ideal time to get quarterback Caleb Williams some on-field reps. Williams will see game action in Johnson's offense for the first time when the Bears host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. Backups Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum and Austin Reed took the snaps in last Sunday's 24-24 tie against Miami in the preseason opener. 'Our starters are going to play, everyone is going to play,' Johnson said Wednesday. 'Last week and really all through camp I've been pretty consistent with the thought of reps, reps, reps are the most important thing to get (Williams) up to speed.' Johnson said he got Williams 80 to 100 practice plays within the offense that he wouldn't have had if he had played in Sunday's game. Of course, Williams wasn't facing a live defense trying to sack him. 'This week it's a different schedule, a different length of time in terms of between games, and all that,' Johnson said. 'So our plan right now is the guys that sat out last week they will be playing this week.' Williams' play in training camp practices has been inconsistent but Johnson has seen improvement from the second-year QB. 'I'm pleased with how he is able to spit these plays out right now,' Johnson said. 'He's made significant progress in that regard and once we get going here in a game week, we're going to condense the verbiage even more. But we have challenged him. It's been a lot. 'That was by design, and so if we struggle at all in the huddle to get the play out, then the delays are going to pop up. That's a little bit part of the learning process and us growing, but by design we have made this very challenging and hard and we know what we need to do as a staff to elevate some of that pressure. I think Week 1 we're going to be in a good spot.' What's less clear is who will start at left tackle. Starter Braxton Jones is being challenged by rookie Ozzy Trapilo. However, at Wednesday's practice, second-year undrafted free agent Theo Benedet alternated with Jones at left tackle with the starters, while Trapilo was the backup right tackle. Jaylon Johnson 'on track' for return Cornerback Jaylon Johnson remains on the non-football injury list, but Ben Johnson sounded more optimistic Wednesday that the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback will be ready for the season opener. 'He's right on track, he's right where he need to be,' Johnson said. 'It's really like I said, those type of injuries you really don't know. Short term, long term, every guy is a little bit different, but I think we're going in the right direction.' ___

Report: Odell Beckham Jr. "has drawn interest," plans to play in 2025
Some things require seeing to be believed. One such thing is the future playing career of receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He has been forgotten since being released by the Dolphins during the 2024 regular season. Recently, he reminded the world that he's still interested in playing, by responding to a fake report indicating that Beckham had retired. Boosting Beckham's claim is this report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Media/ESPN*, which looks and feels like a favor for an agent: 'Three-time Pro Bowl WR Odell Beckham Jr. has drawn interest from several teams and plans to play somewhere in 2025, per source. As OBJ posted himself, he is not retiring, and he continues to train in anticipation of being on the field soon.' If he has drawn interest from several teams, why isn't he on one? Two years ago, the Ravens surprisingly overpaid him $15 million guaranteed on a one-year deal, in a move that may have paved the way to get quarterback Lamar Jackson to agree to terms on a five-year contract. Last year, the Dolphins paid Beckham a fraction of that — and it never clicked. Healthy when released after the trade deadline, Beckham's name was not mentioned once as a candidate to join a contender during the playoff run. Now, nine months after he became a free agent, he's suddenly in demand? Again, we'll believe it when we see it. Beckham started his career with Hall of Fame numbers through three seasons. Then, the decline began. And while Beckham was on track to be the Super Bowl LVI MVP before his knee with a pre-torn ACL gave out, he hasn't had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, his first year with the Browns. Last year, he had nine catches for 55 yards in nine games. It had seemed to be a foregone conclusion that his time in the NFL had ended. Maybe it hasn't. Again, we'll believe it when we see it.

WNBA viewership, attendance increase slightly despite Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese absence
The post WNBA viewership, attendance increase slightly despite Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese absence appeared first on ClutchPoints. Even as several of its biggest stars are absent from the court due to injury, the WNBA continues to see growth in television viewership and fan attendance during the 2025 season. ESPN broadcasts are drawing slightly higher ratings than at this point last year, while ABC games are up 17%, according to league data. The league has also seen steady support in arenas, bolstered in part by the expansion Golden State Valkyries, who have sold out every home game and are averaging more than 18,000 fans per game, per Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press. This uptick comes despite the absence of marquee names like Caitlin Clark, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, and Angel Reese, all of whom are currently sidelined with injuries. Clark, who has missed nearly a month due to a right groin injury, said on a recent episode of Sue Bird's podcast that she feels a personal duty to be available for fans. 'I'm going to go to every road game no matter what, whether I'm playing or not,' Clark said. 'It's hard because obviously I do feel this responsibility of being out there and playing.' Indiana has gone 6–2 in Clark's absence and remains in the playoff mix. Meanwhile, league-leading Minnesota has gone undefeated in three games without Collier, who is recovering from a right ankle sprain. Clark's timeline for return remains uncertain, while Collier is expected to be back within the next week or two, depending on future evaluations. New York has struggled without Stewart, who is dealing with a bone bruise in her right knee but has stated she expects to return by the end of the month. Reese's status remains day-to-day. While overall reception remains positive, the WNBA has faced a recent stretch of negative headlines as well. Several incidents involving fans throwing sex toys onto the court drew widespread attention earlier this month. Seven known incidents have taken place since July 29, including in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Phoenix and New York. A cryptocurrency meme coin, 'Green Dildo Coin,' has claimed responsibility, describing the acts as both marketing and protest, though two suspects arrested have no known connection to the group. In response, the WNBA is working with local and federal law enforcement to pursue felony charges and long-term bans. Players, coaches and the WNBPA have condemned the incidents as dangerous and rooted in misogyny. Investigations remain ongoing.
