Cannes 2025: Parul Gulati's strapless hair-braided outfit divides internet; netizens ask 'How much marketing is too much marketing'

The Cannes Film Festival 2025 witnessed some of the most unique outfits, like every year. From model Bella Hadid in a Saint Laurent gown to Irina Shayk in an Elie Saab gown, each of them left a mark on the red carpet. Apart from them, Indian celebrities and social media influencers also stunned the event, including actress and entrepreneur Parul Gulati, who was spotted wearing an innovative braided hair dress.
The 30-year-old founder of Nish Hair, a hair extension brand, stole the spotlight as her outfit stood out on the red carpet. However, Gulati's dress was more than just a fashion statement; rather, it was an ode to her business.
The entrepreneur attended the 'Eddington' screening at the ongoing international film festival on May 16 in a strapless dress stitched with black hair braids.
Parul Gulati's braided hair outfit steals the spotlight
Gulati boasted the eccentric piece of clothing, or we may call it a wearable hair, along with a sultry neckline and an asymmetrical hem. The hair braids were beautifully chiselled to hug her in a bodycon outfit, and the braids flowed down like fringes, cascading towards the hem.
While describing her outfit at the event, Gulati revealed that the dress was designed by her fashion stylist and designer, Mohit Rai and Riddhi Bansal. She also mentioned that her outfit is an ode to her business, Nish Hair, which is a brand that sells hair toppers, clip-in extensions and wigs made with 100 per cent human hair.
It took over a month to prepare the outfit
The peculiar outfit has been prepared by a team of 12 skilled artisans and took over one month and long hours of detailed craftsmanship to make it.
On the other hand, for her hairdo, she did a simple hair bun and ditched a neckpiece, as she wanted the dress to be the showstopper. However, she flaunted a pair of glittering earrings with minimal make-up. However, the outfit has left the internet divided and buzzing.
Netizens react to Parul Gulati's hair-braided outfit
As soon as Parul Gulati's pictures surfaced on social media, netizens quickly shared their reactions to the outfit. Some said it looks like she is promoting her brand, and the dress doesn't look pretty, while others complimented it.
One said, "And for Cannes, it looks bland like no statement neckpiece or earrings. Overall fit seems incomplete"
While another said, "I am creeped out by this. It would have looked so much better if it had a smooth finishing and end to the dress."
"Honestly, the braided hair look on that dress doesn't work—it just looks messy," one added.
"How much marketing is too much marketing."
"The bottom of the dress looks so shabby! Maybe if she did the hair pattern on the top and did some other skirt maybe would've worked…."

Female voices deserve more space in film music: Jonita Gandhi

Jonita Gandhi has voiced concerns about the underutilization of female vocalists in Hindi film music, pointing out the trend of reducing their roles to mere lines in male-dominated songs. She questions the creative choices that sideline the female narrative and highlights the waste of talent when renowned singers are given minimal parts. In a candid, no-holds-barred moment that echoes the growing calls for gender equity across creative industries, singer Jonita Gandhi pulled back the curtain on a troubling pattern in Hindi film music - female voices being reduced in songs otherwise dominated by male leads. R esponding to a pointed question during an exclusive interview with Bombay Times, about the recurring trend where even top-tier female vocalists are often handed just a few lines sandwiched between a male-dominated melody, Jonita didn't mince words. 'Honestly, they can do better,' she said bluntly. 'I don't think there's a reason why we only need to give four lines to the girl in a three- or four-minute-long song. ' Jonita's critique cuts deep into the creative choices made by composers and lyricists who continue to sideline the female narrative in music. 'Why not just make the song a male solo, if that's the case?' she asked. 'If you're including a female voice, give it space, give it meaning. Not enough effort is made to flesh out the female perspective.' Her comments shine a spotlight on a longstanding issue in the Indian music industry, where male-led songs dominate both screen time and sonic space. Even when renowned female singers are roped in, their presence is often tokenistic, just enough to check a box, rarely enough to make a statement. 'We're talking about incredible talents—Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal—we all know they're phenomenal. But what's the point of bringing them into a song just to hand them two or three lines? It's a waste,' Gandhi asserted. She also acknowledged the bind many female artists find themselves in: accept a minimal part or miss out entirely. 'It's not in our control. You either do it or you don't, and someone else does. And sometimes these songs are just too beautiful to pass up,' she admitted. Yet, the bigger issue, she says, is the scarcity of female-centric songs that could serve as a counterbalance. 'It's not happening,' she said. Jonita's response to this disparity is carving her own path. 'That's also why I've started focusing more on my own music. Because in my own songs, I'm the star!' she signed off with a smile.

Behind every actor who has earned huge stardom is a story of struggle, challenges, and resilience that is often overshadowed by humongous success. But legends are also not built in a day; their journey entails stories that almost broke them off, but their comeback was so loud that people forgot about the existence of their setback. But in a turn of events, came a 16-year-old girl with a breath of fresh air who pulled him out of this darkness. That actress was none other than Dimple Kapadia, who was featured in the film Bobby.
