This England: From the carvery
The annual Lambeth Country Show featured some star names this year – in the form of vegetables. The free festival, taking place in south London's Brockwell Park, included a carved vegetables competition, with sculptures portraying figures such as Dolly Parton and the Pope. There were some excellent puns accompanying the artwork, including 'Mo Salad' and a papal 'Cornclave'.

Turtley smitten
A lovelorn tortoise which escaped to find a mate 11 months ago has been found just a mile away: an average speed of just 0.00012mph. Ginger dug under a garden fence before making a slow getaway across countryside fields looking for love following the death of her long-time companion, Fred. She was finally found behind a pub by a horse rider in Stanton, Gloucestershire. Owner Sarah-Jane Muirie, 51, is celebrating the return of Ginger, whom Muirie has owned since she was ten.

Neighbourhood swatch
Social media influencers who flock to a vibrantly coloured neighbourhood for selfies have annoyed residents so much that some have resorted to painting their homes black to thwart them. Owners of three neighbouring homes in Notting Hill, west London – where properties often sell for more than £2m – have used the tactic to put off posing visitors. And a residents' group is urging more to follow suit to 'restore peace and privacy to our community'.

Fans are all saying the same thing after Tom Cruise finally gets his Oscar
Tom Cruise is finally set to receive an honorary Oscar after a string of nominations, leaving fans equally delighted and baffled. It has been announced that the stunt-loving actor, who stole the show in Top Gun, the Mission: Impossible franchise, Tropic Thunder, the Firm and so many more, is getting a coveted trophy alongside Dolly Parton, Debbie Allen and Wynn Thomas. The 62-year-old has been nominated for performances in Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia and Rain Man, but has never taken the statue home. He will now be honored at the upcoming Governors Awards in November, alongside his fellow honorees – who are getting the Oscars 'to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy'. Academy president Janet Yang hailed the stars as 'legendary individuals' who have made a 'lasting impact' in a statement. 'The Academy's Board of Governors is honored to recognize these brilliant artists,' it read. 'Debbie Allen is a trailblazing choreographer and actor, whose work has captivated generations and crossed genres. 'Tom Cruise's incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all. 'Beloved performer Dolly Parton exemplifies the spirit of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award through her unwavering dedication to charitable efforts. 'And production designer Wynn Thomas has brought some of the most enduring films to life through a visionary eye and mastery of his craft.' Following the news, movie fans flocked to social media to unpack Tom's latest achievement, with many wondering how he hadn't already taken home an Oscar. Reddit user Jnighy fumed: 'Born in 4th of July, Magnolia, Eyes Wide Shut, Jerry Maguire and Colateral. They had so many chances to give him an actual Oscar [sic].' Dianagorgon insisted: 'Cruise should have won an Oscar a long time ago.' 'He should have one already to be fair. But I'm really glad he's getting it none the less,' SangiMTL agreed. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'His absolute love and dedication to the art is second to none and that passion is seen on screen. He absolutely deserves this honor and recognition. Well deserved [sic].' Krazykarrottop posted: 'Like him or hate him, he deserves this. His commitment to the art of film is leaps and bounds past any other actor.' Lolalight16 declared: 'Of course he should have a bunch of these already but I'm still so happy for him! There's no one more deserving!' As StorytellingZ added: 'I normally don't say this, but for some reason him getting an Honorary Oscar at this point of his career feels more special than him getting an acting award as of now. 'Feels like the whole package deal: the actor, the producer, and the stunt man.' Tom is, without a doubt, one of the biggest actors to grace the big screen, having started his career in the early 80s with stints in Endless Love and the Outsiders, before leaving us all stunned in 1983 projects Risky Business and All the Right Moves. He led the way in 1986 classic Top Gun, taking on the role of Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell opposite Val Kilmer and Jennifer Connolly – with the trio reprising their roles in 2022 blockbuster sequel Top Gun: Maverick. More Trending The Hollywood favorite racked up appearances in Cocktail, Rain Man, Interview with a Vampire and A Few Good Men before landing the leading role in the Mission: Impossible franchise. He starred as Ethan Hunt in eight action-packed flicks including the most recent instalment, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which was released last month. Aside from his action blockbusters, Tom has also showcased his range in Tropic Thunder, The Mummy, Jerry Maguire and Vanilla Sky. Unsurprisingly, he is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down and is set to work with Alejandro González Iñárritu on an untitled comedy slated for release next year. Got a story? EastEnders ‘confirms' Joel fan theory in throwaway scene - did you spot it?
EastEnders has seemingly 'confirmed' a huge fan theory regarding Joel Marshall (Max Murray). Little is known about the Albert Square newcomer, other than the fact he's found himself in a lot of trouble since his arrival. Alongside dad Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and Ross' partner Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig), the trio came to Walford for her uncle Martin's (James Bye) funeral. It soon transpired that they couldn't return to their home in Australia, as Joel had upskirted a pupil in his class, and Ross had paid her family $50,000 in exchange for their silence. The youngster has then showed a number of worrying behaviours towards women – watching extreme adult content online with Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall), recording himself sleeping with Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) and this week, sexually assaulting a passenger on the London Underground. Tommy witnessed the latter incident and was horrified, and as we saw in tonight's episode, is reluctant to hang around with him. This came following a conversation about a disgusting influencer, who degrades women. Joel thought this was an appropriate way to talk about the opposite sex, branding his own mum a 'slapper', talking about how she abandoned him as a child. But who exactly is his mum? Well, fans flocked to social media to question whether recent returnee Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) could've hooked up with Ross during her 20 year absence, and subsequently left him to raise their son. 'So…Joel and Zoe….??' said @E20AfterDark. @blistatcapital wrote: 'Zoe is going to be Joel's Mum or something absurd like that.' @RyanJL commented: 'Come on, who cares about coincidences, Zoe being Joel's mum is pure soap gold. Kat's his Granny! Tommy's his uncle! It's Slater magic.' Well, further fuel was added to that fire in tonight's episode, with an off the cuff line that harked back to one of EastEnders' most iconic scenes. Back in 2001, Zoe discovered that her sister Kat (Jessie Wallace) was actually her mother. She was planning to head to Spain for a new life with their Uncle Harry (Michael Elphick), unaware that he was in fact Kat's rapist – and therefore her father. 'You can't tell me what to do, you ain't my mother!' screamed Zoe, as Kat attempted to prevent her relocation, howling back: 'Yes I am!' Cue the doof doofs! In tonight's EastEnders, Vicki paid £2,000 to the girl that Joel assaulted on the tube. He promised her and Ross that he would change his ways, and that he'd never commit such an offence again. However, Vicki saw straight through his act and pinned Joel against the door. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? She swore that if he ever did anything like that again, she would ensure that he faced the full and proper consequences for his actions. Is Michelle Ryan leaving EastEnders for good as Zoe Slater exits?
Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) made a hasty departure in EastEnders after a week two decades in the making, claiming that she has done something 'so bad' that it warrants her disappearing for good. The much-loved Walford icon staged her long-awaited comeback on Monday (June 16), appearing on screen for the first time since 2005. Staying with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) in a flat in London, it became apparent very quickly that Zoe wasn't in a good place, with our Stace concerned enough to notify Alfie Moon (Shane Richie). Alfie wasn't keen on the prospect of keeping Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace)in the dark but Zoe urged him to keep shtum. When Kat showed up at the flat, however, Zoe was forced to hide and she subsequently made an escape, determined not to come face-to-face with her estranged mum. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Kat's suspicions are raised but Stacey and Alfie managed to cover their tracks – so far anyway! The question is: just what is 'so bad' that Zoe has to flee once more? Is this really her exit? Has Michelle Ryan's stint come to an end so soon? Let's take a look at what we know. If you're thinking 'please don't go Zoe, it's barely been a week', then you're not alone as I too was thinking the same thing. However, I bring you good news, with this exit simply being a temporary one. Metro understands that Zoe will return to screens – and presumably this time in Walford – later this year in a more regular captivity. Good things come to those who wait and let's face it, we've been waiting a long time. One of EastEnders' most-known characters ever, Zoe frequented the Square for a five year period, appearing between 2000 and 2005. The early noughties was a particularly strong era for the popular soap, with the Slater clan at the centre of much of the drama. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Zoe in particular featured in many iconic storylines during this period. From assisting Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman) and Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) in covering up the murder of Den Watts (Leslie Grantham) after her affair with the Queen Vic landlord – and her subsequent pregnancy reveal – to her relationship with Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman), she had no shortage of legendary and soapy moments. More Trending She is mostly remembered for the moment that Kat confirmed she's her biological mum. The truth came to light in a showdown which prompted perhaps the most iconic dialogue exchange ever uttered in Albert Square. I am of course referring to 'You ain't my mother!', to which Kat replied: 'Yes I am!'. There are few TV moments as iconic – and hopefully we'll get many more when Zoe returns to the Square later this year and *fingers crossed* reunites with Kat.
