In Maharashtra legislative council, BJP and Shiv Sena tussle over unauthorised constructions in Ratnagiri district
Mumbai: In a clear tussle between Mahayuti alliance partners BJP and Shiv Sena, Pravin Darekar, the BJP group leader in the legislative council, raised the issue of unauthorised constructions at various places in Ratnagiri district. Industries minister Uday Samant of Shiv Sena is the MLA from Ratnagiri and also the district guardian minister. Darekar, through a calling attention motion, pointed to large-scale unauthorised constructions in the vicinity of the watchtower built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the southern foothills of Ratnadurg Fort in Ratnagiri. He further alleged that the municipal corporation constructed a public toilet on the road leading to the tower for the convenience of 'encroachers', thereby defiling this historical area. "Local politicians and public representatives are encouraging these encroachments, while the Ratnagiri Municipal Corporation administration has not taken any action," he said. Darekar further stated that in the Rajapur Municipal Corporation area, a 150-year-old ancient Sun temple exists, which was built in Hindu architectural style during the Satvahan dynasty. "Unauthorised multi-storied construction has taken place on the temple premises with the Rajapur Municipal Corporation failing to take any action," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? No Sun temple exists in the area, nor is there any community centre. So there is no question of deleting the community centre," he said. As both Darekar and Samant stood firm on their respective stances, BJP MLC Prasad Lad tried to intervene, suggesting Samant inform when the Development Plan would be ready and order an inquiry into the illegal constructions. Samant, however, said the Development Plan was currently under preparation and no time frame could be set. He also refused to order an inquiry.

Ulfa-I will not strike its own people in retaliation: Himanta
Guwahati: After United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (Ulfa-I) chief Paresh Baruah vowed to retaliate for the alleged attack on their camps in Myanmar, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said he is hopeful that Baruah will not strike his own people in Assam, which is also his (Baruah's) homeland. On Sunday, the banned insurgent outfit Ulfa-I claimed that three of its cadres were killed in a targeted drone attack by the Indian Army on its mobile camps in Myanmar. Ulfa-I said the strikes killed its senior leader Nayan Asom, while 19 other cadres were injured. Sarma reiterated that when contacted, the Centre informed the state govt that they have no information about the attack on ULFA-I camps. "Assam govt has no official information about any strike till now. Govt of India has not informed us that there was any strike. So, whatever we learnt, we learnt only from the statement of Paresh Baruah. We do not have any other additional information," Sarma said. He clarified that Assam police is neither involved nor aware of any such strike on ULFA-I camps. "I don't think there will be retaliation. He (Paresh Baruah) is from Assam, so why will he retaliate on Assam? If they hurl a bomb, it will harm Assam's land, damage Assam's schools. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover Why These Off-Plan Dubai Apartments Sell Fast? 'Pakistan committed to ceasefire, however…': Pak Minister Ishaq Dar seeks 'peace, stability' with India at SCO
Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Tuesday, July 15, at Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in China that Islamabad remains committed to ceasefire, while asserting dialogue and diplomacy. Ishaq Dar also sought a relationship of peace and stability with all neighbours, including India. In an address at the SCO foreign ministers meeting in Chinese city of Tianjin, Ishaq Dar said the last three months witnessed 'extremely disturbing developments' in South Asia. Speaking of the tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani foreign minister said it was 'unfortunate' the two nuclear-armed nations came to the brink of a major conflict after the Pahalgam attack. 'Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to the ceasefire and the cultivation of a stable regional equilibrium. However, we cannot accept that the arbitrary use of force is normalised," Dar said. 'We believe that disputes and differences are resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, instead of conflict and coercion,' the Pakistani foreign minister added, 'In that backdrop, initiation of a comprehensive and structured dialogue can meaningfully address the full spectrum of issues that have long bedevilled the peace and security in South Asia.' "In that backdrop, initiation of a comprehensive and structured dialogue can meaningfully address the full spectrum of issues that have long bedevilled the peace and security in South Asia. Strict adherence to bilateral agreements would be equally important in this regard,' said Dar. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the terror attack that killed 26 persons in Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir. India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. All forms of terrorism, including state terrorism are condemnable. We must shun the use of terrorism for political purposes and combat this menace through a cooperative approach, including addressing its root causes.' The SCO comprises 10 member states namely China, Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. China currently holds the rotating presidency of the SCO.
