Newsboy's ITV selections for Newmarket, York and Ascot on Saturday

Daily Mirror11-07-2025
Newsboy is backing Flora Of Bermuda to flourish in the July Cup at Newmarket and he expects Run Boy Run score a third win on the July course in the Bunbury Cup, both on ITV
FLORA OF BERMUDA is fancied to prove a thorn in the side of favourite Notable Speech in the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup (4.35) at Newmarket today.
The Andrew Balding trainee, a close third in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot last October, went under by a neck to this afternoon's rival Inisherin when making her return in the Group 2 1895 Duke Of York Stakes in May.

But she had that rival in behind when finishing third in the top-tier Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, finishing three and a half lengths behind Lazzat.

Neither the winner nor runner-up Satono Reve are in opposition here, and Flora Of Bermuda's Ascot effort needs marking up as she came from further back than the front pair.
Notable Speech heads the betting but steps back from a mile and Flora Of Bermuda, with Wathnan Racing jockey James Doyle on board for the first time, can show the favourite a clean pair of heels.

RUN BOY RUN is the choice to improve on an impressive record at Newmarket's July Course by beating 12 rivals for the bet365 Bunbury Cup (2.50).
Richard Spencer's four-year-old has two wins and two seconds to show from four visits to the summer venue and ran a cracker when fourth to this afternoon's favourite More Thunder over the final six furlongs of the Rowley Mile on 2,000 Guineas day in May.
My selection was subsequently a good second to Aramram over the same trip at Newbury a fortnight later and should be forgiven a down-the-field effort behind Never So Brave in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Royal Ascot on his most recent outing, as he was marooned in a group of three towards the far side.

The following afternoon, things didn't go to plan for MISS NIGHTFALL in the Sandringham Fillies' Handicap, but the James Fanshawe trainee has plenty to recommend her in the Trustatrader 20th Anniversary Fillies' Handicap (2.12).
A well-backed 16-5 favourite, Miss Nightfall did best of those attempting to make ground from the back and won't be troubled by going back from a mile to seven furlongs.
Another Ascot also-ran, RAAFEDD, is taken to bounce back in the bet365 Mile Handicap (3.25).

Tom Marquand's partner found daylight hard to come by in the Britannia Handicap but clear water here will enable him to show his true colours.
The blistering form of Aidan O'Brien's juveniles points to favourite ITALY in the Group 2 bet365 Superlative Stakes (4.00), while the stars can align for ORION'S BELT in the Rossdales British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes (1.50).
At York, HAND OF GOD, impressive in two wins in 2024 but beaten on both starts this season, is given the chance to get back on track in the John Smith's Cup (3.10).

AL QAREEM is on a roll for Karl Burke and should continue the good work by capturing the Group 3 John Smith's Silver Cup (3.45).
He comes here on a losing streak of nine, but WASHINGTON HEIGHT drops down to Listed class for the John Smith's City Walls Stakes (2.35), and is poised to take advantage.
A 4lb rise for a course-and-distance score at the Dante fixture may not be enough to prevent OLD COCK from following up in the John Smith's Racing Handicap (2.00).

With an excellent strike-rate of two from three at the track, and top-class form at the trip, HAATEM makes obvious appeal in the Group 2 Cornish Orchards Summer Mile (2.12) at Ascot.
A third in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap at the royal meeting enhanced his burgeoning reputation, so REDORANGE should go well in the LK Bennett Butterfly Mark Heritage Handicap (4.50).

Lorraine Kelly's makeup artist shares anti-ageing product from Boots for 'dewy' skin

Professional makeup artist Helen Hand said she follows a simple rule when it comes to youthful makeup, and she used a radiant product to keep Lorraine's complexion glowy With a plethora of skincare and tweakments offering solutions to look youthful, Lorraine Kelly's makeup artist revealed a makeup hack that lifts years off one's look. Fans were obsessed with Lorraine's dewy complexion. Makeup artist Helen Hand shared with the ITV presenter her go-to tips to avoid looking old. In the YouTube video, she created a soft glow look for Lorraine using the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation, which is currently on sale at Boots and reduced from £52 to £44.20. She explained: "I always think a good head of hair does make you look young. And years ago they used to say 'cut your hair as you get older', not necessarily. Just keep it soft, I always use that word. Even with makeup, as we get older, you can use any colour but just keep everything soft. If it's hard, it's ageing." Viewers couldn't help but notice Lorraine's glowy look as many people asked: "What foundation have you used on Lorraine in this video? It is really dewy." A second commented: "Please would you show us the makeup tutorial for your face. It's a fabulous look." The Chanel Les Beiges foundation contains over 40% water; it is a fresh, lightweight emulsion with a formula that claims to hydrate the skin all day long and give protection. The polymer, which acts as an emulsifying agent, diminishes the appearance of blemishes and fine lines and fills in visible pores for smooth skin. Lorraine wore shade B30 (medium shade, neutral undertone) and B40 (intense medium shade, neutral undertone), but shoppers can look online and find their match from the selection. The foundation has a delicate, silky texture that glides over skin and forms a layer that is invisible to the eye and imperceptible to touch, like a second skin. One customer shared: "Good coverage without drying out mature skin. This is the best alternative since Channel discontinued Vitaluminier,. Typically retailing which I had used for many years." But a shopper disagreed and said the Les Beiges foundation 'doesn't compare' with the discontinued Vitaluminier as she said: "It does not have the luminosity of your old one." Another embraced the dewy look, sharing: " Natural radiance in a bottle. I have been absolutely loving this foundation and the natural look it gives. It's adaptable with the finish, depending on how you apply it, works incredibly with just your fingers and even more perfecting with a brush. But this will never look too heavy on the skin. People always comment how beautiful my skin looks and ask what skin care I use, my secret is this." Alternatively, Chantecaille's Future Skin Oil-Free Gel Foundation is loved by skincare buffs who want a skin-like foundation with coverage. It is well rated by celebrities like Lisa Snowdon, typically retails at £83, shoppers can take 25% off using code BEAUTY25 to drop the price to £62.25. Charlotte Tilbury's Beautiful Skin Foundation, £39, offers buildable medium coverage with a natural, radiant glow. With ingredients like hyaluronic acid, rose complex, and patented BixActiv, the base makeup targets pigmentation and helps reduce visible shine and pores. As for the Chanel foundation Lorraine was wearing, it is formulated with Kalanchoe extract, which forms a barrier on the skin's surface, that protects against the harmful effects of indoor and outdoor pollution. The Healthy Glow Booster pigments light up skin with a subtle satin finish, giving an increase of 77% in immediate radiance.

I've worked with Lorraine Kelly for 35 years and seen her true colours - here's what it's really like on her ITV set

An ITV star who has worked alongside Lorraine Kelly for a staggering 35 years has revealed what she's truly like when not under studio lights. GP and presenter Dr Hilary Jones works on the hit breakfast programme Lorraine as a Health Editor. Having worked closely with the Scottish presenter, the 72-year-old has lifted the lid on what her 'true colours' are. He told the Express: 'Oh she's lovely. Lorraine - people often say, "What is Lorraine really like?" and I say she's exactly as she comes across.' The father-of-five sang Lorraine's praises, adding: 'She's engaging, she's interested in people, she's genuine and she's great fun. 'I've worked with her for over 35 years, and she's written her books as well, so we've read each other's books.' Hilary has just released his third fiction book, Under Darkening Skies, and revealed the pair often swap work and exchange notes. It comes as ITV reveal they will have to make brutal cost-saving cuts - axing presenters and removing beloved shows. And Lorraine is reportedly ready to take drastic measures in a bid to save her long-running show. The host, 65, who has frequently let other presenters stand in for her, will now front her show five days a week after its running time was slashed from 60 to 30 minutes. In addition, the programme, which previously ran year-round, will now also air for just half of the year. And now a source has told The Mirror: 'Lorraine was not happy about what is happening and also had concern for the production team which will be cut back too. 'But the truth is she has to roll her sleeves up and work harder on her own show than she has in recent years, otherwise the long-term future does not look good. 'She needs to show bosses it is worth keeping on air. You can expect her to be pulling hard to get big name celebrities on her show instead of GMB or This Morning.' Hilary (pictured in the early 2000s) said Lorraine is 'lovely' and 'exactly as she comes across' on television ITV claims that it is slashing the budgets of its daytime TV shows in a bid to increase long-term profitability amid changes in viewer habits and a move towards streaming services. The insider explained that while the Scottish host is a staple of daytime TV, changes have to be made in the current climate. Lorraine will now be vying to get the biggest name celebrity guests on her couch so that she can compete with other major talk shows like This Morning and Good Morning Britain. ITV has been contacted by MailOnline for comment. The changes come amid a huge cull of roles at ITV, which will result in hundreds of job losses. Now, anger is reportedly mounting behind the scenes after This Morning escaped the ITV cutbacks announced this month amid a schedule shake-up and overhaul at the channel. ITV announced on May 20 that there would be dramatic changes to their daytime TV schedule, with Lorraine's show slashed from an hour to 30 minutes and, like Loose Women, will only air 30 weeks of the year. Anchors Ruth Langsford and Kaye Adams, both 65, and presenters Nadia Sawalha, 60, and Denise Welch, 66, are believed to be 'angered' and 'panicked' about their livelihoods being at stake, causing uproar behind the scenes. Top TV talents including Lorraine are believed to be 'furious' and 'insulted' over the shake-up while the Loose Women are already fearing inevitable job losses. The new regime, set to come into effect in January, will cost a potential 300 staff members their jobs as a consultation period begins as soon as today, lasting until September, before employees are finally let go in December. But now there is reportedly growing resentment that This Morning is going to be unaffected despite scandals in recent years including Phillip Schofield's affair with a much younger colleague.

Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews axed from ITV soap

Matthews has been a Corrie regular for the past 10 years, playing the role of Jenny Connor. She first appeared on the ITV soap (as Jenny Connor) back in 1986. Matthews departed the show in 1991, and apart from a brief appearance in 1993, she returned to cobbles in 2015. However, Matthews is now set for her second departure from Coronation Street, revealing on Friday (August 1) that she will be leaving the ITV soap after "doing an extra ten years". In a post on Instagram, she said: "I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much! "It's time though to play those parts I always hoped I would when I'd 'grown up.' "Thanks Trafford Wharf Rd for the memories and endless laughter." A post shared by Sally Ann Matthews (@sallyannmatthews) Fellow TV stars and fans of the show took to social media following the news to share just how "wonderful" Matthews had been on Coronation Street and how much she would be missed. Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies, commenting on Matthews' Instagram post, said: "You've been absolutely wonderful!" While former Coronation Street and Casualty actress Melanie Hill commented: "Onwards Sal. Corrie will miss you." Jenny and Debbie ARE Corrie. "How much left is there that we can call true Corrie. Bad omens, think there's a genuine crisis there." Another added: "Even though I'm not watching corrie atm sally ann matthews leaving is going to be a massive loss for the show."
