Drone light show returns to Wilson County for second year. When and where to watch
Firefly Drone Shows will conduct the display starting at 8:45 p.m., May 31, said Tom Needham of Needham's Nursery & Hemp Farm in Mt. Juliet. Needham hopes to make the drone show in Mt. Juliet a "tradition," and hold it yearly.
Viewing this year will be available at First Baptist Church Mt. Juliet at 735 N. Mt. Juliet Road, Needham said. There is also a facilities use agreement to park and watch the show at the West Wilson Middle and Stoner Creek Elementary school parking lots, Wilson County Schools spokesperson Bart Barker said.
The drone show was scheduled for Memorial Day, but was rescheduled with rain in the forecast that day.
About 200 drones will be used for the display.
The theme will be patriotic, in keeping with Memorial Day, with other "fun" and "recognizable" drone images, Firefly Drone Shows lead producer Matthew Sanker said. Detroit-based Firefly does more than 200 shows a year, according to Sanker.
Needham, who is transitioning ownership of Needham's Nursery on Lebanon Road in Mt. Juliet to his daughter and son-in-law, is also known for heading up the city's fireworks display for many years.

NAVAL AIR STATION OCEANA, Va. (WAVY) – A Navy pilot is recovering after ejecting from an F/A-18E Super Hornet Wednesday morning off the coast of Virginia. LT Jackie Parashar, a public affairs officer for Naval Air Force Atlantic, confirmed to WAVY the mishap took place just before 10 a.m. The pilot, assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83, was conducting a routine training flight at the time, the Navy said. Wayne County veterans frustrated after gift card giveaway runs out, abruptly ends
Giovanni Woods, a two-time U.S. military veteran, said he waited his turn and was counting on the grocery money from Wayne County Veterans Services, but said for the first time in years, the service ran out. "I left work early to see if I could come down here this week because my last name begins with a W," Woods said. Starting on July 7, veterans could visit county offices in downtown Detroit with proof of their service to receive a $200 gift card. Veterans were invited to attend in alphabetical order. "They just relayed the message to me at the desk that they are no longer giving out gift cards because they ran out," Woods said. The department was able to give out 2,000 gift cards, according to Kennyle Johnson, interim director of the Wayne County Department of Health, Human and Veteran Services, but those at the end of the alphabet missed out. "It would have helped out tremendously to get it," Woods said. A veteran services worker who declined an interview on Wednesday told CBS News Detroit the department expected more money from the state — upwards of $800,000 — but he said an "error" led to the department only receiving about $300,000. According to budget documents, there was about a $500,000 decrease in the funding for Wayne County. CBS News Detroit is still working to determine what caused the reduction in funding and how it may have impacted the grocery gift card program. In a statement, Johnson wrote in part, "The overwhelming interest quickly depleted our gift card supply. We are actively working to secure additional gift cards and find more efficient ways to distribute them when they become available." Woods said he would just need to wait until next year. "I guess it could have been a better day, but I'm good. I just get in where I fit in," he said. The department directed veterans who didn't receive gift cards this year to contact Forgotten Harvest, one of the food banks that serves the Detroit area.

Pop Mart shares surge 12% after CEO says mini Labubus could launch as soon as this week
Shares of Labubu maker Pop Mart surged nearly 12% Wednesday after the company announced it would soon launch mini versions of its wildly-popular dolls as early as this week. Pop Mart CEO Wang Ning said during an earnings call that the new mini Labubu monsters will be made to hang off phones. The stock, which trades on the Hong Kong exchange, soared 11.9% to close at $40.75 — the highest level since Pop Mart went public in 2020. 3 Pop Mart announced it would soon launch mini Labubu dolls. AP Previous new releases from Pop Mart have sold out in minutes, causing the website to crash. Wang, who founded the toymaker in 2010, said Pop Mart is on track to meet its revenue goal of 20 billion yuan, or $2.78 billion, and that $4.18 billion 'this year should also be quite easy.' While most of Pop Mart's revenue comes from China, it has seen rapid growth in the Americas region in the first half of this year – with revenue jumping 1,142% from the year before. 'I think for overseas markets we're still very positive, and we also believe there's still very broad space for growth,' Wang said. Pop Mart currently has about 40 stores in the US, and it plans to launch a phase of 'relatively rapid store openings' – with 10 more US shops to open by the end of this year. The Chinese toymaker said Tuesday that its profit soared nearly 400% in the first half of the year. 3 People line up for the opening of Germany's first shop for Labubu dolls. AP Shares in the company have jumped more than 200% so far this year, pushing the Beijing-based company's market cap to over $46 billion – dwarfing Mattel's $5.7 billion value. The Labubu craze has been partially fueled by Pop Mart's move to sell them in 'blind boxes' – so shoppers don't know the exact color of their Labubu until they open the package. Videos of these 'unboxings' have gone viral online, and celebrities like K-pop singer Lisa, Rihanna and even soccer legend David Beckham have jumped on the trend – dangling Labubus from their designer bags and car keys. REUTERS The demand for Labubus helped Pop Mart post net profit of $636 million, a 396.5% spike compared to the same period in 2024 – handily beating estimates of a 350% rise over the entire year, the company said Tuesday. Revenue skyrocketed 204.4% to roughly $1.93 billion, far stronger than the 62% growth seen in the same period last year.
