How do you assess Operation Sindoor's execution?
If you look back from 2016 and 2019, the horrific Pahalgam incident of selectively killed Hindu men in front of their family members made it a religious issue. The government of the day had to take action. In my opinion it was the right action. It was executed well by the three services.
I am given to understand it was a tri-services operation. The strategic messaging and signalling has changed. Pakistan's escalation following the strikes on their terrorist infrastructure was thwarted. And the ensuing counter-strikes on Pakistan air bases and other infrastructure, in my opinion, was an excellent military operation.
You say messaging to Pakistan has changed. How?
How long? For 36 years, Pakistan has been using infiltration and terrorism under the garb of nuclear umbrella and they have been saying they are immune to any counter-action. Over the years we have tried joint investigations of incidents, but there has been no way ahead and no cooperation from Pakistan. I am saying strategic messaging has changed because the Prime Minister's address to the nation and his speech at the Adampur air force station clearly laid out new red lines and that it is now just a pause and in case there is any other terrorist incident there will be consequences for Pakistan.

Curfew imposed in Assam town after recovery of severed cow head from temple triggers tension
Guwahati, June 9 (UNI) Curfew was imposed on Monday in Assam's Dhubri town, with the administration apprehending breach of peace and public tranquility amidst prevailing tension following the recovery of a severed cow head and beef from the premises of a temple. The incident triggered widespread protests in the town, and the locals demanded immediate action against the culprits. Although the police and senior district administration officials reached the spot in Ward no 3 immediately they faced resistance from the locals. The local Hindu community also prevented the police from removing the banned substance from the temple until the culprits are arrested. The people took to the streets and shouted slogans in protest. This is the third incident of recovery of beef from the same temple in recent times. The District Commissioner, Dhubri, promulgated prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita 2023. As per the prohibitory order, all shops and market establishments falling within the Dhubri Town area will remain closed until further notice. The order also banned assembly of 5 (five) or more persons in any public places, streets and thoroughfares intending to hold demonstration/meeting/procession or anything similar in Dhubri town area. "Organising any Rally/Procession/Meeting/Demonstration are strictly prohibited," the order said adding that only emergency services like Medical Establishment, Education institutions, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, Police, APDCL officials, Army and other Paramilitary forces and such other persons specifically permitted and in whose favour relaxation is granted either by the undersigned or by those who are authorized to issue relaxation of this order as deemed fit and proper. Assam police had arrested 16 persons recently for illegal cattle slaughter and sale of beef on the occasion of Eid Ul Zuha . Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that cattle parts were found in five places including near Cotton University (Kamrup M), Dhubri, Hojai, and Sribhumi (Bagargool). Five illegal slaughter sites were uncovered – 3 in Cachar (Gumrah, Silchar, Lakhipur) and 2 in Karimganj (Badarpur, Banga). 16 arrests were made – 9 from Cachar and 7 from Sribhumi, Sarma posted on his X handle on Sunday and added that strict action will be taken against the violators. Assam Cattle Preservation Act of 2021 banned cattle slaughter and sale of beef in areas where Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs are in the majority and within a five-km radius of a temple or satra (Vaishnavite monastery). The Assam Cattle Preservation Act of 2021 also regulated the transportation, and slaughter of all cattle, and sale of beef and beef products in the state. In December last year, the Assam cabinet decided to amend the 2021 act and put a restriction on public consumption of beef also. Amit Shah approves ₹25 crore compensation for 2,060 houses damaged in J&K by Pakistani shelling post Operation Sindoor
A month after the Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday facilitated an additional provision of ₹ 25 crore from the Ministry of Home Affairs for 2,060 houses damaged by Pakistani shelling in border districts. The announcement by Amit Shah comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised additional compensation for houses damaged by Pakistani shelling in the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi had announced an additional compensation of ₹ 2 lakh for each fully damaged house and ₹ 1 lakh for each partially damaged house. The Home Ministry ensured swift implementation of the decision and stated that similar compensation will also be provided in the border areas of Punjab. Earlier on 29–30 May 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch. During the visit, he handed over appointment letters on compassionate grounds to the family members of those who lost their lives due to cross-border firing. According to the norms. compensation for the damages caused by cross-border shelling was provided immediately. Following Operation Sindoor, several incidents of cross-border shelling were reported in border districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this, hundreds of families living on residential areas, schools, religious structures including Gurudwaras, temples, mosques and commercial properties suffered. The administration took proactive measures to anticipate possible events and ensure effective response. According to the government release, 3.25 lakh people were evacuated from the border districts, of whom about 15,000 were accommodated in about 397 shelter sheds/accommodation centres equipped with facilities like food, water, health care, electricity, etc. A total of 394 ambulances were deployed in all border districts to take patients to hospitals for treatment, out of which 62 ambulances were deployed in Poonch district alone.
